How big is the Frontier OS31 Sawmill?

Тәжірибелік нұсқаулар және стиль

In this episode we are going to provide the measurements of the Frontier OS31 mill. Lots of folks have been asking for this information online so we wanted to help out and get it all around for you.
NOTE: A KZread comment was made that my guards that were rubbing on the cable have been installed backwards. I'll be looking into this to see how I can flip them to allow more vertical travel on the saw head.

I’m just wondering. What is the dimension between centers of the feet on the OS31? I have one coming this month and wanted to prep with concrete forms at each location. I have a single bed extension coming as well (7’)

The width of the rails are just over 36" so I would suggest 48" wide. If you want a spot to walk along the mill, then I would go with a total width of 60" or even 72" if you don't mind the the additional expense of pouring the extra material. I'll probably end up going with a 20 foot by 6 foot pad when I have mine permanently placed.

@@handncreations oh that’s cool… I was thinking all individual small pads but two long concrete strips with tapered insides to make it easier to pull out material would be a good idea

Hey there, I ordered an OS31 and can't wait to get it! What is the biggest square lumber you can cut like 10"x10" or smaller than that or bigger than that? Basically I want to know what the measurement from the blade up to the bottom of the blade cover is? The space between that area would determine how thick of a square piece of lumber i can cut. Didn't see this info on their website....

First, congrats on the new mill! The OS31 is indicates that you can cut up to 31" diameter logs which is HUGE. Technically, the site says you can cut up to 11' boards so that I possible too. Other than what I covered, the technical data for the mill is here: www.frontiersawmills.com/en_us/frontier-os31-sawmill-with-14hp-429cc-kohler-electric-start-engine I hope I helped to answer your question and thanks for watching!!

How do you like this mill? I've seen a lot of negative reviews about it, and some good ones, but I've seen quite a few complaints about the motor backfiring after letting off the throttle. Would you recommend investing in this mill or a different one?

I do like it but I have had to fiddle here and there with adjustments. For the price and how well it works, I’m happy with it and would recommend it. The American made ones are nice and do have some benefits but they are quite a bit more cash and have longer wait times. If you want something for straight up production work then spend the extra and wait for the build times but if you are Going to cut for yourself or low production then this will do just fine. Also, if you are handy - there are lots of mods you can do to make it better! Hope that helps and thanks is for watching. I’d be happy to send videos of specific stuff. I’m on a frontier Facebook group and my account is UTV boondocker (my other channel).

@@handncreations thank you very much for the reply! I'm not really interested in big production, and no way I would ever, or probably could ever, invest in a high dollar wood mizer or something, I'm just interested in doing for the love of the work, and to maybe do like storm work for people, but that's about it. Thank you for the advice! I think my mind is made up, and when I get ready to buy, this will be my choice.

@@gregorydavidson177 Glad to help and I'm excited for you to get one. It's super cool to be able to get a log, make dimensional lumber and use it. Definitely next level self sufficiency!

Thanks Daniel, as embarrassing as it may be, these things happen. I hope others read this comment and don't make the same mistake that I did! I'll go take a look and switch them around asap.
