How big are Surf Maps actually?

Ойындар

How big are surf-maps actually, compared to normal-sized maps in Counter Strike Source or Global Offensive. Also looking at some real-world units to get a better idea, because Hammer can be tricky at times (all the time), especially when it comes to consistency in the conversion. Btw, in the CSGO world, the ramps would measure in bigger than in CSS. Make it make sense.
Apologies for the transparency issues, just an absolute pain to get rid of all of them. I can only see the problems after render. So i didn't bother :P
CSS maps cuz they are easier on the PC. Source2 import into Blender is not well optimized.
Hope you still enjoyed it.

Dude this is one of the best videos about surf I have ever seen, reminds me of these size comparison videos where it starts small and then goes all the way up to galaxies (the galaxy in this case would be an analogy for a full surf map in the hammer grid). I personally have never thought about the scale of a surf map, since I spent my time surfing them, not walking on them, but this really puts it into perspective. When I played CS:GO/CS2 on maps like Dust2 or Mirage, I never realised how much less of the hammer grid they actually use. Really makes you think how some surf mappers fit their maps into the restraints of the grid, im certain some people just know black hammer magic xd

many surf maps have very "ominous" feeling to them anyway. you dont think about it cuz its just fun but when u look from a distance (and outside) it really does make it feel like that

It would probably surprise people how much of the grid is dead space in omnific. Maps like overgrowth and vast definitely use up more grid space.

for some reason seeing ravine from above was incredibly cool. not much overhead stuff going on there so you can really appreciate the routing and ramp placements. This video, your videos, and your deeper dives into technical parts of surf as a game-mode are extremely interesting. Please continue exploring and share your findings!

Insanely cool vid, I always thought about making a surf_mirage linear map, where you can surf through the whole map, but seems like it would have to be a mirage^3 map to surf anywhere above 100u/s! Great video again (:

Nice video, very well made and super cool. One thing that would have helped me with the scale of whole maps would be like a tall international landmark, like the Burj Dubai or World Trade Center or something. I feel like the maps would compare favorably to one of those but once we got away from the T model it was hard to tell how tall they really could be.
