I’ve been steadily playing 9 person MTT’s in my poker journey and feel I have a decent bet size strategy (still always trying to improve) Recently I’ve been playing 6-max MTT’s and have been getting absolutely smoked. Seems like everything I’ve learned on bet sizing from full ring MTT’s goes out the window. I’m learning every day but making that transition has definitely been an uphill battle

I’m thinking maybe aa and 44 get bet the most? but i honestly don’t know how to approach the answer. I dont think ive seen a single piece of poker content that told me how to make a decision like this. it’s usually “bet your strong made hands and strong draws, check/call ur marginal made hands and marginal draws, then check/fold garbage”. Outside of that the majority of poker content is just “what does the solver do on this board? well it checks 60% bets 20%pot 15% and bets 40% pot 25%”. So like not things that are helpful to generalize. As far as river bets go I havent seen_much._ most content is preflop, or flop. and either a very specific solver solution that u cant generalize or some kind of exploitative answer. Outside of that I know i should probably be checking showdown value hands, and betting my value hands and bluffs. hence why i think it’ll have a polarized range of betting the best and worst hands. The other possible solution is that it’s the opposite. I should be betting middling hands and checking top and bottom to defend my checking raise? This is an interesting example though! It’s so ridiculous that I feel like it can only either be very helpful in building fundamentals or totally pointless. considering you chose to examine it im going to assume the latter

for in position. are we assuming checking? if that’s the case oop is weighted towards 55-99. so do we just bet TT+? we have to bet QQ-AA now otherwise we can’t get money in ever. but we pronounced cant bet linearly… i still think we bet 44’s for sure bc we need bluffs and if OOP checked they’re not capped but it’s rare for them to have the nuts for sure. i think a mix of small, medium, and “large” bets on 44s (larger than oop’s largest bets but i dont think u rip it in with anything tho) And a similar mix for QQ+ and then maybe small betting on TT, JJ, and maybe 99 and/or 88. If they checked you _probably_ either beat or chop 88,77 so i think u can go thinner for those. but still small so u dont get blasted when it’s the nutted portion of their checking range? maybe that’s not the right way to think about it

ok so instead of betting TT & JJ which is was very sure about as well as 99 or even 88 which i wasn’t so sure about, we mainly just increase bet sizes on the nuts (which i _was_ right about) as well as 55. I actually considered bluffing 55 too. but I wasn’t sure why 55 isnt a good bluff for oop but is for IP? At least I couldn’t come up with a logically sound explanation. I guess the point is that since villain checked, we know for sure our 55 chops at best and loses to all 7 other combos so we might as well go for fold equity?

oh i was also totally off on the bet sizing. I thought the same reason u don’t bet big OOP w a polarized range you wouldn’t do the same IP? Bc ur still probably only getting called by QQ+ right? so with QQ you have a 1/3 chance of of chopping and 2/3 chance of losing which in total happens 20% of the time and the other 80% they fold. KK you have 1/3 win 1/3chop 1/3 loss (with a ton of folds outside the call)and AA 2/3 win 1/3 chop. is it bc OOP will have to call some frequency with 66-JJ? or you’re happy with that 80% fold 6.66% loss 6.66% win 6.67% chop
