How Beer is Made: Bigfoot Fermentation Time-Lapse
Ойын-сауық
Check out our Bigfoot Barleywine Style Ale thrashing over six days in four traditional open fermenters. We release this beast of a beer, introduced in the winter of 1983, each January.
Audio: Edvard Grieg - In the Hall of The Mountain King - Peer Gynt Suite No. 1, Op. 46.

*This video is beautiful and terrifying - much like drinking barleywine. Beer is a living thing.* I always like to see the behind the scenes stuff. So much work goes into making beer.
That krausen is insane!
I love the video. I'm a sucker for a good time lapse!
Mmmmmm way to make my mouth water!! Can't wait to enjoy this beer again! Awesome video.
I have been waiting for this my entire life.
The best thing I've seen today
Didn't know you guys did open fermentation. That's cool
I didn't know they had been releasing this beer that long! Killer vid SN, Cheers to another 33 years!

Now its been 43 years.
Wow that overflow of the Krausen is insane! Those yeasts are very happy indeed.
Thats so awesome!
Bigfoot- I was first introduced to this wonderful ale at the Stuffed Sandwich in San Gabriel by Sam and Marlene with the usual suspects way back when in the original location. It remains a delight to acquire each year when released and an even greater delight when sipped.
Super tasty beer I look forward to a four pack every year.
This is awesome, still trying to wrap my head around 1000lbs of yeast!
Best Time Lapse I've ever seen.. *****

The funny thing is this video is at least 3 years old. They just finally published it on their official channel.

I'll be able to do 2004-2014 with a few missed years once this comes out...
the smell in this room must be f incredible!
Darn! I thought this video was about someone who had captured a Bigfoot corpse and was fermenting it in a vat!
Drinking this right now!
lovely
Best song for this.
I love to watch a carboy of beer in the throws of primal ferment. Great on the coffee table... One this big would need a blow off tube for sure..
Who knew yeast could be sexy and kinda terrifying? How hasn't it taken over the world?

Yummmm this beer is good.
Wow!
Respect.
Oh my god. Could I do this in a shed on a small scale? Still open etc?
Watching this made me very thirsty!
This reminds me of the magic porridge pot...
Does your Brewmaster dabble at all in the "flash chilling" of worts? According to my research, rapidly cooling the finished raw beer to 4 degrees centigrade causes protein fragments to bind with one another and settle to the bottom of the tank along with the heavier malting sediments already down there waiting to be tailed off. The hypotheses suggest that rapid cooling of the beer immediately after the last boil dramatically increases shelf life by immediately cooling to well below spoilage temperatures.
You'll need a lot of PBW to clean that mess up!!
Wow beer is good
Wow, lots of spillage there buddy!
How come the the amount of wort wasn’t reduced slightly as to allow room for the wort to ferment without spilling out the sides?
do they brew 4 fermenters worth one time per season? or do they do this multiple times per season?
It's ALIVE!
From my rough calculations from the start of the ferment, providing it was 6 days, every 5 seconds is about 24 hours. Starting at 0:17. However looking at it being pumped in, it must of already been started ferm'n.
God I miss Chico.
that is fucking disgusting, and amazing, never knew it happened that way, and it produces such a cool result, imma get me a cold one right now
It would be amazing if you had a timescale or timecode on the video.
That was one angry Bigfoot
Now I'll be looking for your barely wine in all the local grocery stores but I know it won't be found.
The top makes it look like Shepherds Pie.
IT'S ALIVE!!!!
holy shit!
Interesting
I expected sasquash having sex over a long period of time.
Guy in the last frame of 0:21
Mmmmmmmmmm...Beeeeeeeerrrr.
Its a shame that so much spills over.
Bigger ...1 porn krausen...! (y)
U gesù, fa un po' impressione!!
Somebody didn't quite size the fermenters right :)

Actually, this is 80 barrels of beer in a 100 barrel fermenter, there should be plenty of room, but because Bigfoot is so massive, it flows over nonetheless. Bigfoot is like Chuck Norris....there isn't a tank in the world that can stop it!
all that fermenting.. for THAT?
I think that the amount of years of tradition is not essential. What matters is how serious you are about quality. I remember when nobody thought that it could be possible to make a better wine then the French. A winery in California did, twice. Since then many wines are beating french wines. So why not a very decent US beer?
watching this while drinking a beer .. lol!
How does that not get contaminated?
@Adol666
8 жыл бұрын
+New Beginnings Bible Church Its a lot harder to contaminate beer then you think it is. The Co2 produced makes a protective layer on top of the beer. Without proper ventilation or breathing equipment you would pass out from the amount of CO2 in that room in most likely seconds. Also the Bacteria that can contaminate it will not hurt you.

+mattzx77 Yeah, I guess so. I homebrew and I'm always so afraid of contamination in my brews--wild yeast, etc.--this just seems amazing. No doubt, SN knows what they're doing, and Bigfoot is awesome, so you're definitely right!

Good Point. This is an oversight on our part. The track is: Edvard Grieg - In the Hall of The Mountain King - Peer Gynt Suite No. 1, Op. 46. I'm sorry I don't know the orchestra/symphony. This was downloaded from a rights-free site nearly 4 years ago and the rest of the information escapes me.

There is typically no need to credit (nor is it considered bad ettiquette) when using right-free music or classical pieces that could have been performed by anyone... I'd back this guy up if you used some unknown producer's song and didn't credit or whatever, but this is far from that.
