How to make the most money in tips: girls, wear yoga pants. Guys, work at a gay bar and wear yoga pants

A method that works for my team and I is we take the total amount of tips earned per shift divided by the total amount of hours worked in the shift. Example: Shift made $500 in tips. Ron worked 4 hours. Elaine worked 5 hours. Margie worked 7 hours. That's 16 total hours worked. $500/16 = $31.25/hr. Ron gets 4 hours pay. Elaine gets 5 hours pay and Margie gets 7.

That's a VERY generous tip-out...I wish that formula was the norm. The reality is it changes from bar to bar, club to club, restaurant to restaurant. It's usually determined by a certain % of alcohol sales.

You don't usually have a lot of expectations for barbacks coming in...it's sort of like a host or bussing position. It's understood to be entry level and will usually train you with the knowledge you'll need. However, some more high volume, night club environments will look for barbacks with experience. The best thing you can do is familiarize yourself with procedures in a bar and bartending and demonstrate or explain this knowledge in your interviews if given the chance.

Congrats on the new gig! That's a great idea...I'll get barback on the vid list asap. Welcome to working in a busy bar! It'll get easier and more natural over the next few weeks. Main thing is try to anticipate when your bartenders will need stuff; keep an eye on the ice, alcohol, beers, wines, etc and especially glasses. Try to get to stuff before they ask and you'll create more breathing room and less stress when it gets hectic. Clean as you go, pick up empties constantly. Smile :) & have fun!

Thanks mate! Indeed; I've always wanted to work in a bar, but I suppose the media sometimes glamorises it. Hard work, but I enjoyed it and it's nice to know that you're one of the cogs that keeps the bar going. Look forward to your video!

Yeah, check out the full blog (link in description above), I go into much more detail about schools. Ultimately it comes down to how much of a stretch it is...if this is your last $500 for a life line job, get out! Grab every cent back you can. However, if you can comfortably afford it, then the worst thing that will happen is that you'll get at least some decent knowledge and some confidence.

The best formula for tipping out a bartender is for the server to figure out what percentage of their sales was drinks, take that percentage of their tips, and then split that amount of money in half with the bartender. The idea is that 1/2 the work was done by the server in selling the drink, other 1/2 was done by the bartender in crafting the drink. If I made $100 in tips and 75% of my sales were drinks, I take $75 and split it with the bartender. They get $37.50 and I walk with $62.50

Hey there. I'm a student in the UK and I've managed to get a job as a bar back in a really popular cocktail bar in the centre of the city where I'm studying. I had my first 8 hour shift yesterday and I didn't realize how hectic it can really be, especially the amount of work thrown upon me. Do you have any advice or tips for us bar backs out there? Thanks bud.

I would say your environment and personal situation sound optimal for you to get started into this industry. There's a few things...you can start with private party bartending, which requires no experience and can make you money starting immediately, or you need to network with bars and managers who can give you a shot. Check the full bartendingblueprint (.) com site for more in depth info about that stuff!

Well, that just is flat out wrong by your place of work. As a barback, you are helping the bartender do their job, so they are supposed to tip you out X amount per night. And the place you work should have explained all of that to you when you do your training.

Say the 4 o clock bartender makes twice as many drinks as the 6 oclock bartender. and its like 7pm Would he still have to split the tip evenly? Even though he worked harder?

  • @BartendingPro

    @BartendingPro

    10 жыл бұрын

Remember, every place can be different...but, in your scenario, if you're the 4 o clock, you would "pull" or pocket everything you've put in the tip jar up to that point just before the 6 o clock (or whenever the next 'tender arrives. Essentially the buckets start new everytime a new person arrives or leaves.

Tipping is such a weird concept which just sounds like a pain in the ass and cause of unnecessary discrimination. I'm glad we don't have to bother with that here in Europe.

Okay. So, I'm 19 and I kinda got my bartending job by chance. I started out as a hostess and "moved up" I guess. Anyway, I don't get tips. I'm a service well or weld...I couldn't understand what you called it. But yeah, I just make the drinks. I DO NOT get a percentage of the servers tips. At the end of the night, the FOUR servers only give me $5. So I go home with $20 every Friday. They will let me serve the bar, but they don't let me keep the tips. Since I don't know much about bartending, is that even okay or legal? Cause that seems pretty fucked up to me. I kinda just need the job and experience.

  • @BartendingPro

Each place is different, and you'll need to check laws in your state...but yeah, sounds like they're taking advantage of you a little bit. Now granted, if you're service well (just making drinks for the servers & cocktailers) then you usually will NOT get a full cut like the regular bartenders. I would ask the manager who you have the best rapport with about the standard tipping procedures. All in all, when you've gotten enough experience to move on, I would maybe consider doing so.

Can any bartenders answer this for me I went out for food and two drinks my total came out to be $37 but I was impressed with the bartender service I tipped her $30 ! She refused my tip initially trying to look out for the other bartender who wasn't at the bar the whole time or Served me !!! I said to the bartender who was waiting on me . Are you about to leave ? Because i wanted to tip her before she closed out . She REFUSED to close me out ..... and i said NO i would like to check out now like she pretty much was trying to look out for the other bartender who didn't even SERVE ME 🙄 so when she pulled the tip she gave to other bartender the whole $30 who didn't SERVE ME or was rarely at the bar i understand the bar supposed to split tips!! But she gave him the entire TIP!!!!!! That pissed me off and now i only want to leave bartender $1.00 $2 .00 now that showed she was soooo unappreciative then complained how her day went bad !! I'm not tipping like that ever again

Likely this came down to policy of the bar, or maybe she owed the guy. Who knows. You can try to get her next time, but don't forever tip like sh*t from a one-off experience, otherwise you'll be known as a "bad tipper", which is not who it sounds like you actually are.

Why can't bartender and waitresses make more money so we don't have to worry about stupid tipping culture. It would be less stressful for patrons and less stressful for servers.
