Sorry about the background music being too loud everyone... Had a technical error while exporting a whole batch of videos during this time. It's long since been fixed, but sorry if I blew your ears out trying to listen ;). And, it's a good test to see if you're ready for this gig 😉

Tip #1: get out there and try it. Go get your job. Try new things. You're new? It doesn't matter, everyone has been new once. Nobody will hire you if you keep doubting yourself in your room. You will make mistakes, you will get better.

I just got hired as a bartender without experience. I am so excited! I know I just need to open myself up and keep the conversation going. As someone with anxiety it’s hard to be so outgoing but I know I can do this! UPDATE - thanks for checking back on everything! I quit after four months and I’m serving now but I’m going to apply to a different bar down the street this time! I noticed the bar that hired me was too by the book where we even needed uniforms so I wasn’t a fan but bartending over all is SO FUN! Easy!! Memorize the drinks. I put so much of my own time into flash cards with the recipes. You need to memorize them to increase speed to start with the recipes! I noticed being a girl obviously helps with tips but calling my customers Love, Hun, Babe seems to get them to loosen up more! Being knowledgeable on todays news and sports is important for the small talk For my anxiety I play a game where i choose my personality for this first round of customers and I fake it till I make it and next time around I switch my vibe idk how to explain it but when I think of it as acting my anxiety kind of goes away. But I genuinely do listen when I talk to people so remembering names is always a plus they feel more connected and also helps w tips Good luck guys!! You got thus

Jack Ross I agree. Be articulate, sharp, knowledgeable and affable are great traits for a bartender. Calling them “girls” (as you did) at 23 is a drink recipe for disaster. People drink for one reason. To feel something. To feel elite in a disappointing or celebratory life. I’m 100% service oriented, but I never compromise my respect and kindness over reading each individual.

Tending bar at a younger age (26) taught me TONS of life lessons, how to talk to people, how to be outgoing. I came out of my "shell" 100% because of bar tending. Talking to people, customer service and operating with a team is a huge part of life. I'm now 41 and I've owned a business for the past 12 years. I still utilize my bar tending "education" in every aspect of running my own business. I still get behind the bar several times a month to supplement my income. I average $50/hr bar tending....where else can you have a fall back job making that much?! PS.... bar back to get experience. The pay is still amazing and you'll be slinging drink in less than 4 months!

@ihateoregonians Child support is for the child!?! I don't understand this selfish mentality - that is what messes up the kid. Child support does not equal "scorned woman" wtf. If people would stop thinking about themselves and think of their kids first, and realize that the other parent is just as important to the kid as well (except for those circumstances where other parent is not around) everyone could move on with their life. People - if you don't want to support your kids financially and make a big mess out of it, just stay away. You are not ready to be a parent.

I’m fresh 21, service worker of 6 years, and bartender of only a few months… this video had tips that were either reaffirming in what I’ve been trained in and doing or really strong learning points! I’ll be checking out all your videos from here on out!!! EDIT: also, I came into bartending in a bar that has many many MANY well known regulars. I felt very disadvantaged and wary at first because they expected their bartender to know their drink, their habits, etc, and I knew none… but talking to all of them and making a relationship of our own together has been one of the best experiences of bartending. Even the whole “I’m so sorry, I forgot your name” or “I know you told me the other day, but what do you like to drink again??”, has lead to friendships or just strong regular relationships. It’s the best part of the job, and one of the most important IMO

Being a good bartender is like being a great entertainer, everyone wants to socialize and speak with you for what you Provide. It’s so important.

Now i fulfill all these roles on a weekly basis... Also getting to know your regulars(locals) is an invaluable skill and as Jason said in the video it shows you car and value them not just their money!

I have been a bartender for many years , it’s fun and depending in the bar most people would be surprised at how much money you can make as a good bartender. His best point is that anyone can learn to make any drink, but not everyone can become a good bartender.

Im excited/apprehensive about how this will go, but thats mostly because the atmosphere I always was exposed to was of people who had been doing it for 15+ years.. In my case i worked as a delivery driver for a busy restaurant. I didn't do any upfront work, but i did make many drinks for myself and co workers after our shifts. Me and servers often made complex cocktails as well. This experience proved really valuable when i decided to take a break from construction and try bartending.

I love your shirt man! Im working as a bartender only for 4 months, before i worked in a guest serving bar for 4 years. When I took my current position i spent nights on watching youtube videos on how to make those drinks wich im serving in my bar and focused on my establishements offers. Knowing details about the drinks you are serving does give you confidence when being asked by customers about your products and you can learn them before you start a new job, just make sure you got the menu even in advance of your interview and research those products, you dont need to know everything about bartendering, but its always better to know something and show interest. Many things that are important when being a bartender i feel like you cant really be told by a video, in the end of the day you need to make expierences, look out for how your longer employed collueges are acting, and try to copy their behavior and listening to more experienced staff, the basic to start from is always having a nice welcoming attitude towards every human. you need to be that nice guy who people feel like they can talk to with ease. One other thing that works is when guests who came into your bar spend time with other guests, yesterday for example a single guy was sitting at the bar telling me it was his birthday and he wanted to drink a tequilla with me and as i dont drink during my shift I asked a table next to him if they wanna cheers with him and they did. A bar is a place were people are supposed to get together and become friends or spend a good time together. You need to be willing to deal socially if you want to become a bartender, but if you do your job in a good way, you will be awarded with tips and smiles and happy customers and you can go home after your shift with a good feeling yourself. Have a good one

I used to cook for almost 11 years ,5 years in the Philipines, 6 years here in Canada. Becoming a bartender never crosses my mind, My manager thought I could do it even though my english was pretty basic ,most drinks I learned because of google, My best weapon was I have all the knowledge about the food menu and I smile humbly and treat customer with respect all the time but it wasnt that easy until it gets easier until I felt like I'm not working anymore bec I love it way better than cooking now. Most Customers comes back bec of my welcoming and friendly attitude!

I've been Bartending 12 years. Either you work for a bar, do catering gigs, or do your own private gigs. Private gigs are best. you'll make 300- 500 cash for maybe 6 hours, but it's a side gig and it's largely seasonal. The best option is probably teaching it, but you need the experience.

Though this Four years old, it's still VERY relevant to this day, I went from being a Bariista upgraded Bartender at 15 out of left field to me at first then I realized that any time I'm by the Bar everyone kinda knew me for 3 Reasons I'm the Best at recommending Drinks or Conqauctions they may like, I can hold a good conversation and get along with everybody especially at The Bar Area, I became a friend to every co-worker I had and Locals that'd come to where I worked at. (I realized at 17 why I was chosen to be a Bartender.) [EDIT:] I'm glad that dude went over it I wanna Work at or Manage a Bar and be a Bartender but since it's been years since I had that job I'm making sure I'm not rusty.

Do some homework about the establishments, their specialities and let them know that you understand bartending as a key element of returning customers through facilitating quality experiences for customers. Great, unique experiences will create loyal locals, which = solid business for the establishment. And that is the whole point of the game. Keep us posted how it goes!
