I bought my friend a wrecked 2018 Audi S3 8V saloon. It has pretty bad front end damage and some damaged to the 2.0 engine. I can see alot of parts need replacing but what i dont know is if the engine is okay as i haven't started the car yet. Before i try to start the car theres alot we need to replace and fix. Fingers crossed its okay!!

It’s crazy to see the amount of stuff you get done in a single video. Back when you started it was 1 video per mod / job because you were doing it on driveways without the right tools, no experience ans a full time job. Now you can do an insane amount of work in a single video and pump them out multiple times a week!
bonnet hinges have pedestrian impact protection this means that the bonnet fires up to save a person bulls eyeing the windscreen can't wait to see this epic build finished

Damn didn't know that, that's really cool.
You checked the intake ports in the engine and found that peice of plastic. What about then intake pipework? The one leading to the throttle body. Gravity would dictate pieces would fall down there into the pipework. Hopefully not. Some of the vaccum lines may be causing the PCV valve to open and shut constituting some clatter noise maybe ?

If this is the case pull the plug and see if the electrode on the spark plug has bent from foreign body damage. Otherwise your route of swapping injectors and coil packs should point to some clues.
Also worth removing the spark plugs and looking inside cylinders with endoscope to make sure no plastic is in there
@vxracing380
2 жыл бұрын
This should of been done really before he started it with knowing the inlet was damaged like that. And finding a piece wedged like that. With a high impact like that you can guess it would of been on boost so you can safely say that sucked in plastic
Matt, the optimism despite the set backs you come across, is refreshing. This is why people are glued to your channel. Keep up the good work. Great videos!!
Start with compression test, then spark plugs and also swap the old injectors back, then final try is coil pack👌

The newer type EA888 has direct and indirect injection. The injectors that Matt is pointing out are the indirect ones. Those help with cold start what the car is doing fine, besides cold start they are also helping with different loads but don't if it is just full load.
@robertbyrne781
2 жыл бұрын
@@boerher isn't this technically a cold start tho seeing as it's not been run up before? It's always worth trying to swap the old ones back even if they're the problem or if they're not, it's one of the key ingredients to fault finding bud
@boerher

@@robertbyrne781 After all those weeks waiting, finally an update. But Matt still doesn't have the answer 😋. Have looked about the indirect injectors, you were right. The indirect injection is mainly for stationary and low rpm.
Try swapping the coil sticks about to see if the misfire moves to another cylinder, check the plugs at the same time.
@lifeslooker

Always new plugs ( iridium ) and coils. Save hassle with trial and error. And it wastes time fault finding. Reckon ensure all plastic was out the engine first. Too much excitement getting it started. Come on Mat. Remember the S5 build? Use your knowledge from that one
Can’t wait to see another project progress, love the channel Mat keep up the good work.
Sounded like u had bits of plastic in the bores Misfire could be bits of plastic stuck in the valves
@gf4509

Scope the cylinder for plastic.
The ea888 engine have two sets of injectors. The smaller set on the intakes only spray at idle and low revs to flush the valves. I'd personally take the set off the original manifold and fit them to the new intake. The replacement set would need coding in.
@boerher
2 жыл бұрын
Would they? I only know that the older engines need coding for direct injectors, but the newer are self learning. Never coded the indirect injectors. Those which sitting in the manifold are the indirect ones.
@DrifterJo2015

The petrol injectors are plug and play, don’t need coding. Even the diesels will run initially uncoded, they’re coded for refinement
@cgkperformance
2 жыл бұрын
@@DrifterJo2015 I know when we apply the larger injectors they need rescaling. I personally have never had to swap injectors on these but yeah what you say makes sense as the scaling should be the same for both sets.
Swap coil pack on cylinder 1 with any other, see If the missfire moves to the cylinder you swapped it to. Common for coil packs
I've always dreamed to own an s3 as my first car, and to have it as a project car would be even better, watching you work on this car makes me want to make that dream a reality even more! 🇿🇦🇿🇦
Your work ethics are truly amazing ,a lot of the new generation of young adults could learn a lit from your hard work and positivity.
I’d have chucked it on the frame machine to straighten that rear upper rail section out, fairly minor damage to that part. Invest in a borescope so you can investigate cylinders in the future for random debris and damage.
Hey Mat, love your content and your energy in your vids! In my mechanic training (in Switzerland) they told us not to cut structural parts, more replace the whole section of the car. The front of the car has factory weakened sections, so that the engine gets pushed under the car, instead getting pushed into the cabin, incase anyone has a frontal impact. Thought you'd might appreciate the info ;) Keep up the good work, looking forward for more content to come mate.
Really enjoyed this one, nice to see Liam involved 👍
It's gonna be a banger when mat uploads 🔥🥶
Can’t get enough of this build Matt 🙌🏻 keep them coming great stuff
The standard stuff first; could be spark plugs, spark plug cables, coil packs or even the injector just being blocked as you don't know the condition of the vehicle which it came from. Thanks for the great content and giving us the confidence to try and fix things ourselves 👌👍
Hello Matt, potentially needs a throttle body alignment sounds like something I once had, try turn the car to ignition and go listen to the throttle body, it should be making a high pitch noise, wait for that to go silent (should be about 2 minutes) and then try start the car, hope it helps!
A mixed ending with the engine firing up but sounding rough, exciting. Fab viewing and I cannot wait to see this project progress. Good luck Mat.
I love your videos man, they are concise and straight to the point. This car will look lit after all the repairs, can't wait for the final product. All the way from South Africa
Mat I love Your videos. Just a small thing, don't forget the break cleaner might be destructive for seals, so You should not use it above any parts, but in a safe spot, so it does not leak on rubber connections and seals. No hate, just advice :)
If it was me I’d use the old injectors and get a bore scope down the spark plug holes and check for any plastic that might have got through when the valves were open
The project I've been waiting for a video on can't wait to see his face once you get the car all sorted for him #properfriend there well done Matt 👏
Awesome work Mat. Looking forward to this. Keep winging it, you are smashing it
Liam is a lucky boy to have a friend like you, another great video, looking forward to the next one
Mat, common issue on all VAG cars is the injectors and coil packs, the injector baskets disintegrate because they're made of plastic so whilst you've got access, get them tested and refurbished with gauze baskets. Or simple test first, just change the coil packs around to see if the cylinder misfire moves to another cylinder, is so then its the coil pack. Might also be worth having someone walnut blast the carbon out of the intake manifold whilst you're about it.
Another great video/project Matt. You say your not a mechanic, maybe not certified, but you are fixing cars and to a high standard. So don't put yourself down. Yes could just buy working car and fit wheels etc. But you and your mate are making memories and having a laugh sorting this one. What its all about in my eyes. Keep it up.
Awesome episode. Great start to the series. Looking forward to see how this series turns out. Keep up the good work.
It once took me 3 days to take off the intake manifold on my vw golf 6 Gti and u just made it seem extremely easy 😁. It was my first time however, I learned on the move, just like how u do all this. I'm inspired.
Misfire is the best excuse for getting some upgraded coil packs & plugs in there plus you can check for any plastic additions in there whilst they’re out 😉 the missing air filter is also the perfect excuse for the full R600 intake setup 😉
I will be so attentive to see this work I do live this model 😍 so glad you got this for your boy. Looking forward to the next video 🤗
Wow can't wait to see this take shape 😍
"There's absolutely no lights on the dash" 🤣🤣
Please retrofit "Digital Cockpit" dash, Liam deserves it !
1 thing ill say about matt he doesn’t skip corners or does half a job top guy keep it up
Great video mat, you're a great friend for doing this for your mate.👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻
Miss fire could be coil pack related. Having had a VAG product, coil packs are known to just let go, causing rough running, engine light and limp mode, other related issues like spark plug or injector could be causes. Aside from this, I don't think you did enough checking ofr inlet manifold ingestion. The clue is in the name 'inlet' meaning ingestion of small parts is possible. Great content though Mat.
Be sure to check on the transmission mounting area, there’re three bolts under the battery tray which support the transmission housing tends to break pretty easily after a crash
Always such exciting videos cant wait for part 2
When mat uploads it’s always a good day 😊
Another great video Matt, can't wait to see the finished car. Keep up the hard work!!!!
Loving the videos matt! keep it up👏
Matt, for the Audi to run perfectly, after removing the injectors you would be best to replace all the injector seals, also if you are not replacing the injectors the flow of the injectors should be checked because if an injector over fuels badly later it can damage the engine and possible cause an hydraulic lock in the cylinder, as you don't know the condition of the spark packs it would be best to replace them too and spark plugs too, the engine sounds fine and you don't have to code injectors they are mostly plug and play but be sure all power connections plug click in place or they will not work. Hope any of this info helps. 😎👍
Keep it up mate, love your videos
Highlight of my boring day off! Thank you
Nearly 300K subs 🤙🏼
As mentioned Coils are an issue,but also sometimes Throttle Housing needs coding too.Especially if its a fly by wire system.Only a suggestion I'm not an Audi specialist,whatever it is good luck 👍
Mat,for learning as u go along u are doing a great job cheers
Brand new second hand..... Cracks me up every time Matt 🤣🤣🤣🤣
Just for reference mate, if you unplug the MAF sensor it will run without cutting out with boost leaks. Obviously it'll be in limp, but just to see if it starts it's fine.
Excxellent entertainment. I always know when a Mat video is coming on so I turn the sound down lol.

Nice work guys hope it all pays off . Looking forward to seeing your next video 👍👍
Hi mate, that nocking noise your getting before the misfire is the Cam Magnets (on the side of the cam cover - left side of engine) they’re about £60 each from dealers and you will need 2. Had the same issue on my Golf R and it was them. These are very common on the MQB platform.
when you said " my downstairs garden is getting a little busy" i was rolling on the ground and laughing
Well done I’m sure u will fix the problem like u did the rest of the cars can’t wait to see it will look like when it’s done great work u should be a mechanic 👍👍👍
The hinge airbags will deploy in case of a crash lifting the bonnet up slightly to create an angle on the bonnet to reduce damage on a landing body.
Let’s hope this bad boy doesn’t have a major issue, fingers crossed for you bro 🤞🏽
Absolutely brilliant mat... Wow, the car is in bits.... Fingers crossed its simple... Ish!!!
‘Brand New’ second hand! Come on Mat your killing me! 🤪🤣

Matt's videos are the only videos where I can watch the promotional advertising without skipping 😂😂
I bought a Copart A1 that had a slight misfire, a breather had broken on bottom of inlet manifold, so changed it. When I removed it, the whole inside air tracts had disintegrated and were stuck in the valves. You need that inlet off again, and double triple check there’s no plastic stuck in there, small bits will wedge a valve open causing the miss
Mat, you keep pushing the inspiration all over, with the amount of dedication and passion you have, May you keep receiving the blessings from the Lord. I'm really inspired and you keep motivating me not to give up on my dreams... Big up to you mate... 🇿🇦❤️
I would say, certainly put the original injectors back first. So you can see how the engine is running then. Probably have a look in the cilinders with a small camera to see if there is any debries from the plastic left. And just for sure put some new spark plugs in. You can also try first to do a compression test, to see if any valves are damaged while there could be some plastic beaten through them. Keep the nice content going! 😄 If you ever need some help please contact me. I own a small workshop in the Netherlands and I’m specialised in VAG and BMW mostly electronical related.
Sounds like my old A4 2.5tdi... had to code the crap out of it to make it work! I miss my Audi (when it worked). Keep up the vids my man ... Best day of the week 🤙🏼👊🏼
It might just be the throttle body damage, any leak after the MAF sensor could easily cause rough idle and potentially a misfire.
This is going to be another monster looking forward to this. 👍👍😊
Thank you for the ideo MAT. You like the challenges, you get a big one with this S3. Hopefully , you have already proven that you are a champ to fix all issues ( i remender the RS5 ). It is strange, there is a lot of AUDI A3, S3, RS3 in France but they are all the Avant/sportback type. The sedan type is less than 1% of the sales. same think for the A4, S4, RS4 . I will follow your work MAT, i learn a lot. Good luck.
Love watching your videos mate love this car
Put original injectors back in making sure they go into the same cylinders they came from as any foreign injector would need coding to car. Hope you sort it
Compression test mate, then if you’ve not got one get a little camera poke it in and see if there is anything obvious. You always change the Spark Plugs anyway so hopefully anything helps. Best of luck guys
your really fast its all brilliant car content to watch ,i enjoy all your videos they make my day
4:50 it cant slag my bag😂😂😂😂
Excellent job 👍👍👍
Mat. I love your vlogs 👍🏻
It’s amazing what you guys do🙌🏿 I just subscribed to the channel!
just want to say love watching your videos buddy been following you on you tube since your first car build love it mate . loved the green m4 and the green golf was gutted I didn't win them 🤣🤣 anyways keep uo the good work and it be nice to see you build a proper show car when you do everything interior and that. sure you taste with make a sick car.
I had a cylinder 3 missfire. It was diagnosed as a timing chain over stretched so I got the timing chain, tensioner, guides and crankshaft pulley replaced which fixed the issue but was expensive.
Love ur videos
your show room is looking is looking good, with that awesome wrapped Lambo in the back ground.
When you said there is only one thing left before you can start it my dumb ass was like “The Fucking Pyrofuse!”
It will be the injectors that will need coding in. There are codes on the injectors that you need to be able to code them in. So either way will need to come out. So might as well try to put the old ones back in and see if that fixes it. make sure you put the injectors in the same locations though when swapping the old ones to the new intake.
At 12:27 i thought matts mate was wearing nail varnish 🤣
It's going to be a sick car when done amazing guy matt doing this 👍😎🍺
I know it's already been suggested but definitely swap out the coilpack. It's a good place to start
Fantastic video 👍
i'm still tring to get my head that you are doing all this for your best mate? Points to you Mat you sir are the best of friends
Yeah mate you need to code the injectors in as I work at VW and Skoda and I’ve changed a fair few of them 👍
I think you did yourself some injustice there mate, might not have been to college but I’m pretty sure you can class yourself as a mechanic self taught ! Wicked
Love the videos 📹
