How Bad Is The Witcher Season 3?

Фильм және анимация

Just yesterday, Netflix released The Witcher season 3 part 1, starring Henry Cavill, Anya Chalotra and Freya Allan. I watched it, and had a few thoughts, so I made this review. So, is it actually as bad as everyone expected it to be after the nonsense that was season 2? Let's talk about The Witcher season 3.

The first part of season three isn't as bad as season two, but it sure as hell ain't good. They didn't fix the issues from the second season, because the issues completely shattered the story, the characters and the lore. What the writers did was add duct tape to crumbling house and pray the audience buys it. As for the season itself, its filled with weak storytelling, bad dialogue and more character assassinations. Sure they were kinda following the books this time, but this is still Hissrich's perverted version of the Witcher that has abandoned the books. Its not good. Henry Cavill is once again the thing that holds it all together but he has since left the show. Well done Lauren. RIP the Witcher. I wish I could say that it was a good run, but I would be lying.

So basically all you need is 50 soldiers with magic-proof arrows and an elvish mage to destroy every single mage together. And no lightning shower or no fire storm can kill off the soldiers. Yen healed Geralt later this season and in the episode with the golden dragon from season one Yen could freeze dwarves. Mages could even cut people’s throats with a hand gesture. Why didn’t them use these powers in this battle?

i dont know if im liking it better bc of the fanservice for book fans with the references or bc nothing tops eskel turning into a tree in stupid terms, who knows but i felt frustrated at the screentime that takes them to try the clean up the utter mess that was season 2, my favorite character aka yennefer was butchered :((

It's good that they don't make shit up like whole Baba Yaga in season 2 but it's still shit. As you put it, "shallow" is main problem at the core of this show. It's written by stupid people who think they are smart, and result is cringe. Show is shallow because they have no depth or talent to write something better, but they don't care, that's not the point of the show for them. The most important thing is to have gay Jaskier making out with Radovid because they missed an opportunity in season 2 with bisexual Lambert (true story, only reason you have whorehouse in Kaer Morhen and pimp papa Vesimir was so Lambert would make out with a male whore lel but it was left out from final cut for some reason)

100000x This channel already won my respect and I'll keep an eye on it while continue to watch more videos from it. I love ACTUAL criticism reviews. Instead the hate/ragebaiting reviews that you mentioned from trolls who just wants to clickbait a specific demo. Those people I can't stand and are a cancer. Especially since they often start their hate campaign literally months or not years before the show or movie even comes out.

The Witcher Season 3 Review☠️ This wasn't good. As the show has tried to extend its scope and scale it's clear the people making it have a reach that far exceeds their grasp. Everything from pacing, structure, character work, and even the action set pieces feel like rushed first ideas hastily executed and cobbled together to meet a deadline rather than well-honed sequences, scripts, and scenes that have been toiled over and shaped with care and a firm vision for what the show is trying to convey. Plotholes, contrivances, wonky magic systems, empty mysteries, and modern self-aware dialogue are rife, and it feels like a show made out of obligation rather than passion and creative drive. It's such a shame, because while not perfect, the books are excellent, so some of the burden creatively shouldn't be as visible as it is in this show, but this need to do their own thing and sometimes vandalise beloved characters and story beats has only placed more pressure on writers and producers to deliver something they simply aren't capable of. The biggest issue for this season apart from the lack of coherent story telling. Is that they are trying to be something they are not. They are not Game of Thrones, they are not Lord of the rings Rings of Power. S1 opened the world of the Witcher. And by s3, I don't even know what I am watching. There is no focus, just long periods of side stories... boring, CGI is there just to be there. Writing has become lazy. You can see that they don't care about the source material. And you can see they try to add modern values to it... Which makes it even worse. There is a clear lack of understanding from the show runners to the writers room of what makes for competent storytelling. They had good source material, an amazing cast, and world class crew, yet somehow managed to fall into cliche traps (telling instead of showing, character narrating to rush the storytelling process, poor character development). It's like film school freshman read the book report of a failing middle schooler of the Witcher books, then attempted to make something and put their stamp on it rather than respecting the intelligence of their audience. season 3 character arcs & characterization of the Witcher is really bad. its a sad waste of time. they turn GERELT into a side character in his own show. his action scene are good but the show barely focuses on him , which really a shame because Gerelt is a captivating character as always. i thought the writers might have concentrated on his character more but as usual the Witcher writers are clueless. they turn Radovid into an annoying LEX LUTHER type of character from Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice. the writers turn Emhyr var Emreis, Deithwen Addan yn Carn aep Morvudd The White Flame Dancing on the Barrows of his Enemies into an incredibly bland boring character. his dialog is the worst. its completely takes you out of the show. Radovid & Emhyr are two of greatest characters & antagonists in The Witcher franchise , [ books , games & anything else ] , so it's really stinks that these characters suck so bad in the show. if you know anything about BLOOD ORIGIN , then you know that Eredin Bréacc Glas the King of the Wild Hunt is kind of a weakling & really non-threatening so that a waste of an antagonist / villain so i don't have any hope of The Witcher tv show being a really cringe but entertaining tv show , but The Witcher tv show its just awful , i don't know how the writers of the show made Thanedd Coup so dull. uninteresting. boring. tedious. tiresome. they tried to make this entire season into GAME OF THRONE lite , it barely resembles Thanedd Coup. As for YENNEFER , she failed to apologize in any meaningful & significance way to GERALT or Cirilla for releasing discount baba Yaga , taking CIRI to cintra to be possessed , YENNEFER doesn't show any guilt for the Witchers who died in KAER MORHEN or anything. YENNEFER does try to shallowly & half-heartedly apologize to GERALT for maybe a couple minutes in one episode if you add the total up but it lacks substance & any type of conviction at all. As for YENNEFER apologizing to CIRI for taking advantage of her trust & getting her possessed , they have a one minute conversation about it. I'm honestly not sure because it went by so fast that I can't even say that's what the conversation was about. Then the writers just hand wave the situation & nobody brings it up again period. As for YENNEFER actions in relation to the plot season 3 , it was established in almost the whole franchise that YENNEFER doesn't care for politics [ in the games YENNEFER only cares in relation to saving other people, in the books YENNEFER is not that good at politics & you get the gist that among the mages of the north Philippa Eilhart & Vilgefortz are excellent at politics by comparison to YENNEFER & she only cares in relation to her magic school or saving someone , even in season one of the show's YENNEFER leaves politics behind her early. So because season 3 focuses on a GAME OF THRONE LITE version of Thanedd Coup YENNEFER character really suffered from the bad writing especially after her character assassination characterization of season 2. YENNEFER costumes are terrible in season 3. its laughable. Philippa Eilhart & Dijkstra were underutilized & don't live up to their characters at all. Vilgefortz is decent but he's going to be the most unsurprising surprise villain ever because the writers have been dropping really unsubtle hints since season one. Vilgefortz killing the mage in season 1 & interrogating Tisseia about CIRI in season 2 gave the surprise away. as for CIRILLA , she's good but she's only half as endearing , charming , engaging & cool as her counterparts in the books & games. I like her a lot & her relationship with GERALT is nice , even if I consider it diminished by all wasted potential opportunities of season 1 & 2. The writers do this really annoying thing with her character where they write themselves into a corner so CIRI will constantly get caught by any & everyone after her , even after GERALT & YENNEFER tell her constantly & repeatedly to be careful & stay safe. It gets irritating after a while. CIRI trains with magic & different ways of fighting for a bit but its so so to me because she gets interrupted repeatedly so I don't think of her as a great fighter. A good one but not outstanding. A problem with her character is that the writers are trying to portray her as a great physical fighter instead of a person who uses agility , flexibility, magic sword menship to kick ass & Freya Allen looks thin & tall , in other words not a strong physical fighter. The other critique I have about CIRI is that in season 3 she's just there , she doesn't really do anything plot wise , CIRI is like the Infinity Stones in Avengers Infinity War an important element of the plot but she's inertia in her actions in the show. Hopefully she does something by the end of season 3. Let's say these 5 episodes have more books stuff than the previous season, but still not enough to call it an adaptation, they just quote the books while they play their horrendous fun fiction, it's boring, bad though, full of inconsistencies, plot holes, and bad dialogues. I'm not interested in watching more of the Swicher. I wouldn't mind if they actually made improvements on the source material but all the so called improvements were even worse than fanfiction. So I'm not interested in Lauren's terrible writing & directing. Besides people have read the article from the CGI &VFX artists , everyone knows she is not adapting the books for Season 3. Lauren is writing something never before seen in the books & the games. So anything Lauren says about following the books is just more lies. People watching Season 3 of the Swicher will just encourage these Netflix Morons to produce more of this trash. I'm not watching the CIRI & YENNEFER show. So if you haven't seen it yet , save yourself from the suffering , if you have seen it. tell me what you think

THE WITCHER SEASON 2 , one of my biggest problem with season 2 was that i was looking for character interactions & some good dialog but nobody talked about anything except for some witty small talk. i blame the writers because they had an opportunity for some character development & wasted it. they didn't development CIRI & GERALT relationship in the right way when they had the opportunity. the writers rushed to get to KAER MORHEN when they didn't need to. they should have taken their time to let CIRI & GERALT build a relationship. don't even get me started on the on the fact that they skipped the time when CIRI was a child [ 6 or 8 years old ] & GERALT saved her. it was the first time , they met. how could the writers skip that. the writers completely character assassinated YENNEFER by having her betray CIRI & GERALT. i don't care if she changed her mind & saved her in the end. none of YENNEFER choices or actions make any sense in season 2. there no way that YENNEFER would ever allow any child to get possessed just to get her magic back. she might do something like that to an adult but never a child. i can't understand why YENNEFER would save CAHIR , i can see someone like TRISS not wanting to murder CAHIR but i don't see YENNEFER being bothered about killing some Nilfgaardian she doesn't know or care about. plus i'm shocked that GERALT didn't kill YENNEFER for putting CIRI in so much danger. that's really out of character for him. its really weird that he's so forgiving at the end of season 2. i will be the first to admit i don't like YENNEFER after she left her magic school. i really liked her character when she a hunch back. she interesting & not such a bitch. it seems like instead of trading her womb for her looks , she traded her ability to have kids to be a bitch. i don't have a problem with her being sassy & a slight bitch but her being queen bitch all the time makes it seem like her only character trait. i don't know what GERALT see in her honestly. even in the books & games , they have nothing in common other than CIRI. a child is not enough to make a relationship work. i have no clue why the writers killed ESKEL. they brought in a bunch of new witchers in season 2 but choose to kill ESKEL. instead of killing a new witcher off. that's nonsensical

Here is a criticism of the show that sums up how i feel about The Witcher: Blood Origin , The problem that underscores the entire series is that there simply was not enough time for the characters or the plot to mature over four episodes. The Blood Origin ending does not feel earned because the plot is so badly underdeveloped and the characters follow woefully generic arcs. The Witcher: Blood Origin also seems to have rushed through its production, which constitutes another case of underdevelopment. The unnamed monster that wipes out the monarchies during the pilot episode is a particularly bad example of CGI. The CGI issue is present throughout the series. Blood Origin’s Characters Lack Depth , Another critical issue for The Witcher: Blood Origin is that the characters come off as one-dimensional stock fantasy characters. unoriginal characters still come down to poor writing. As such, these new characters require time on screen and relevant dialogue to set up their backstories and make the audience care about them. Instead, they are given vague and generic backstories that provide minimal depth and cause the show to feel unimportant, creating a massive problem for Netflix. For example, Éile, also known as The Lark, is given a very vague story about needing to redeem herself to her clan. However, it is never clear what exactly she needs redemption for. Moreover, The Lark's clan, as well as all the other clans, are never explained in any detail. Instead, they are simply thrust into the story to provide a paper-thin form of background. Without more information about the Lark's past, she comes off as just another fantasy warrior seeking some sort of ambiguous redemption. In fact, virtually all the characters in Blood Origin come off that way. Fjall Stoneheart, who ends up becoming the first version of a witcher, is given the same amount of minimal background. In the span of perhaps his first 5 minutes of screen time, Fjall goes from a quick battle scene, to sleeping with Princess Merwyn, to being expelled from his clan. His arc is accelerated so much that his story is unable to take on any individual meaning. Fjall is essential to the plot of Blood Origin, as The Lark is, however, neither of them is important on their own because of their lack of depth. The characters ultimately come off as placeholders in a loose framework of overused fantasy tropes. Blood Origin Lacks Originality , The aforementioned lack of depth, in terms of the show's characters, the plot, and the world building, causes The Witcher: Blood Origin to come off as painfully unoriginal. Blood Origin uses narration in an attempt to provide depth and make the show feel more important, but this is simply disastrous. Jaskier appears briefly as the narrator's audience, but that does little to make the show feel relevant, or make the narration any less corny. The mysterious narrator also seems to be used in self-defense of the show's lack of originality in a conversation with Jaskier, but its defense only serves to underscore its lack of creativity. The Witcher: Blood Origin ends up feeling like a collage of worn-out fantasy tropes driven by a skeletal plot. everything from the generic plot to boring character arcs, displays the show's singular underdevelopment in all aspects of writing and production

I have to say that i like the Chemestry between Anya and Henry alot, so the 1st and 5th Episode doesnt run down as bad for me but there is happening so much dumb Stuff (set aside the Character and Lorebutchering) like for Example in EP1, Ciri is only allowed to attempt to the Festival if she covers up her Hair and Face. She is the only one of the three who is not wearing a hood and just a Mask on a stick that she held up barely 10 seconds 2 feet away from her Face. The Trap in the Same EP just hit the same. First they let their "Child" fighting for Minutes while they are standing 3 feet away, then Geralt decides to not kill or caputre the badguy just break his hands so that he has the need to following him. The List goes on in further Episodes where the writting is so strangely dumb even when you're not familier with the books or the games

my critics are about how the writers show Cahir, Francesca, Radovic, Dijkstra, Fringilla (etc)( F. isnt even mentioned in the first books) .Then I dislike that they show Cahir as killer, which he wasn't , he always wanted to protect Ciri. We learn that later, how he suffered for it. Francesca isnt fighting in the woods, she already has her Dol Blatana, given to her by the White Flame, never lost a child. She is full member of the mages, queen of the elves. During one of the meetings with other female mages she said, her time to give birth is up. BTW she is described as the most beautiful woman of the world. Dijkstra as sado maso pervert ( wtf is that!) Radovic is a child not an adult. And why is he gay? I'm so done with that bs, I really hate it. First of all they killed Yennefers character in S 2, what was such a stupid idea and terrible to watch.

I still don’t think they have chemistry, they personally don’t mesh for me. I agree with the rest though there are some very dumb decisions that happen. Decisions that just don’t make any sense, why put your characters in situations that they shouldn’t be in in the first place but then once they are there have them make really bad decisions because you have to because of the plot 🥴🫠.

Here’s my first impression on certain aspects of the season (mind you I binged all 5 episodes like at 1 am when they released it lol) -I don’t agree with people, Yen DID have to earn her forgiveness, and it took time for Geralt to do so. I see that for Ciri it was a bit easier to forgive, because she’s younger/has a different personality/different perspective on life/was there with Yen when it was about to happen and saw how Yen didn’t go through with it and was actually helping her with her magic. -I don’t know why Yen treated Ciri differently when they left alone to Aretuza, like she was harsh on her, almost abusive! -Why did Yen and Jaskier go back to frenemies when they became closer in season 2??? -When Geralt arrived to Aretuza and during the party, he seemed like one of those dumb side characters. I know he rarely talks and he was pretending for the night, and maybe it was the hair and outfit; BUT it just felt like another character -I like that Yen became stronger and more Yen like, because last season they made her look weak and didn’t feel like she was the Yennefer of Vengerberg! But they didn’t have to change Geralt and Jaskier like that! -Ciri was so bullied this season and I didn’t like that! Yennefer is my favorite character, but I love the other 3 main characters too!! I haven’t read the books and maybe that’s why I don’t feel the negative impact as much, but I do have to say that I have enjoyed many scenes and dialogues, but mostly I enjoy their acting, they are very talented actors!

Yennefer is harsh to Ciri in that scene because Yennefer in the books is harsh with Ciri. What is off is that first she is all love with ciri and then harsh with her, but in the books she is 24/7 harsh with Ciri in order to teach her a lot of things because Ciri is in her care meanwhile Geralt is in hunting down Rience.

I was never much of a gamer, but the witcher3 is an incredibly beautiful story. The music, beautiful landscapes, characters, monsters. I played it 4 times. I think the actor who plays the witcher Henry Cavill is the ideal Gerold, Jenifer and Cirilla medium, they are very beautiful girls, but nothing like them? I think Tris is fine. Philipa and Dijkstra are really bad. But why the fat black ugly women in this medieval setting? This makes a good show amateurish and substandard compared to the game the witcher 3. Hopefully they never change anything about the game with ugly fat black women?

Let's get them from the sky where they fly, waiting for us to turn a blind eye to the lack of an original narrative, the lack of even some respect for us, for the original source, for the departure of Henry Cavill, the beautiful Geralt, you never know what good is left, and now then trampled.
