Just brilliant. You are the rare host who can create the right space for any guest to talk naturally and at length, and your preparation for these sessions, along with your authentic interest, makes the quality of discussion incredible. The professor was wonderful, frankly it goes without saying, and we sincerely hope he will be back again so we can learn more from him. The Pakistan Experience has become such a precious space for Pakistanis to learn and laugh and talk sense. Eagerly awaiting more content like this!

Every Pakistani needs to listen to this podcast. We have this habit (including me) about our country keh 'yahan kuch nahe ho sakta', whereas Dr. Asim is literally experimenting and showing us, with hard proof, keh sab kuch ho sakta hai. There's so much more than that in this podcast. Must watch. Shehzad, bravo on this interesting podcast!

Another great podcast. Thank you The Pakistan Experience Team. Honestly, bringing on such guests who're not fear mongering and telling people that Pakistan is doomed but instead actually pin point the "symptoms" as Dr. Asim rightly points out and then provide suggestions and solutions to such is great. Kudos to you guys. Keep up the great work.

Indepth and insightful analysis in light of academic and pragmatic approaches in the context of Pakistan. Relevant questions and candid responses though a bit longish but very aptly put many of our national and societal issues in perspective. Nevertheless, very interesting and illuminating views. Appreciate a lot for sharing it.

This was a great guest because he actually had experienced first hand how things work in Pakistan. Most qualified economists living abroad from well-connected families have no clue about life of average tax Payer in Pakistan. As your guest himself noted several times that the things he learned on the ground made him alter his approach to various programs he was conducting. I think Pakistan has a lot to learn from Egypt's economic meltdown. Egypt also has lots of highly qualified economists from well-connected families who live in foreign countries. But have no clue about the life of average taxpayer of Egypt, therefore, their policies failed.

Asim - I’m responding to your comment about why politicians are unable to harvest data and information to improve services and social welfare. I am of the opinion that the majority of our traditional politicians consciously or unconsciously lack vision, empathy and the motivation to deliver public service. Instead their prerogatives is to make money by hook or by crook for their personal welfare.

I am a big fan of Dr. Asim Khwaja. I wish he had talked about what happens to graduates of our high school , college and even professional graduates. A doctor graduate after passing all the exams and by the time he finishes all the exams and training , gets 70 to 80,000 Pak Rupees. My nephew works 12 hours a day and is 2 years out of medical college and still has 2 years to pass all the exams , for foreseeable future he will not be able to survive without help from parents. 25 Million children never went to any school. Dr. Khwaja bigger point on importance of education is right on point and he has some excellent ideas. However, i agree with ex Finance Minister Mr. Miftah Ismail- Pakistan is, has been and would remain for 1% of Pakistanis unless some major fundamental changes are made.

An interesting discussion. Pakistanis thing that one Economist will come to Pakistan, will make some macro level adjustments and all economic issues will be solved which is not the fact. We need to improve a very strong linkage between our educational institutions and the industry which will bring productivity at the firm level. Enhancement of citizens and local government interaction will be key in economic growth of Pakistan. .......

sir this micro thing you said about education how we are focusing on eduction at lower grass root level and specially in villages, this hits so close to home, my uncle retired the highest possible position a scientist can reach almost same level as Abdul Qadeer Khan cant name him, same my dad and my other uncle all achieved greatness in their fields, they moved to cities made homes there. Recently, I got the oppertunity to visit my village and its hard to believe how this family of ours was able to remove the shackles of poverty, it was eduction they literallly had to walk 7 to 8 kms to reach school, my grand mother was so forward thinking at the time, she took loans from many people so her kids can study and it paid off so much so much i cant explain. and people used to say "parha k kia krlo g" kahen mazdoor laga do. She said no they will study whatever they want. One time my uncle took high level delegates to our village they wanted to open a research lab and though that location could be a suitable place but at that point one friend who was from Karachi said this to my uncle "yar **** tu yahan say yahan tk ponhcha ha, yakeen ni hota" it sums it up nicely. how education changes generations.

It is so disheartening that certain politicial parties are trying to induce FUD in the Pakistan just to further their political agendas. Rather than trying to address the issue at its core they are just running once again spreading fear. My vote is revoked forever. Such type of selfish political strategy is beyond despicable. Dr asim..Your point of education not being a vote getter is so important. It is the reason because of which better education is not being given to the constituents. Check out AAP in New Delhi . They are winning elections because of better education being given to children. And yes education is their most important item in their manifesto.

Hi Shehzad I have seen many times you are taking about production quality camera quality lighting but it’s very disappointing watching your video quantity and camera quality when you do live video chat with overseas guests you can compare yours video quality with Kushal Mehra from India it’s look like your were using old VGA webcam or laptop webcam. I’m professional videographer if you need any help in terms of lighting and camera let me know I would like to help you but you need to improve your camera and lighting during podcast with overseas guests.whole world is watching you and listing you taking about production quality I think you should improve yours video quality too no issue with ur studio setup BTW

But where is quality in Pakistan. Guy seems over optimistic as quality that Pakistan poses is not even comparable to 3rd standard of other progressing countries. All the best for future

Such project on which he is working should also be executed in other big/small cities, every thing (safe city, tax acknowledgment, police upbringing, etc) all appear to be Lahore based nothing for Karachi, Quetta, Faisalabad, Gawader, Multan.
