How Awe Awakens & Heals the Brain | Dacher Keltner & Jim Kwik

How can you cultivate more awe into your daily life? On the spectrum of emotion, awe is probably one of the most elusive and misunderstood. It’s easy to feel awe when you encounter the wonders of nature, a piece of powerful music or art, or have a deeply spiritual experience. But is it possible to create and embrace a sense of awe in your everyday life?
I’m excited to welcome Dacher Keltner to the show today. Dacher is a professor of psychology at UC Berkeley, the founder and faculty director of the Greater Good Science Center, and a renowned expert on the science of human emotion. He’s here to talk about his latest book, Awe: The New Science of Everyday Wonder and How It Can Transform Your Life.
When you’re in a state of awe, your entire body opens up. It activates your parasympathetic system, reduces stress and inflammation, and provides incredible perspective that can improve your mental state. Listen in as Dacher talks about how important it is to embrace the wondrous feeling of awe and why you should find time for it every day.

I feel overwhelmed with awe when I am camping, looking up into the star filled sky, thinking how tiny we are compared to what I see. It is amazing how God created all of it !

OMG. That is so true. Everyday, I am inspired by my children. Searching for ways to cultivate awe and wonder led me to this interview and that is SO interesting. I always say my children are my greatest teachers. Thanks for that.

Listening to this was "awe"! I was stuck on fight or flight for a long time. Not anymore!! I used it helped a lot. Thank you. This helped me destroy the stuck pains, traumas, thoughts, and feelings by being mindful of "awe"! I am sweating just seating here doing this exercise with you two. I think that I found something! Awe is opening my heart and mind. It is an exercise that I will do for my mind and heart health. It is so easy. I like your both thoughts about parenting and awe. That made me think too. Thank you!

Following the morning routine seven days ofcthe week, I am in Awe every morning for the new revelations, sunrise, change of season which occur fast in the heat, and the ease of journaling before I touch any gadget that uses electricity.

Awe and wonder are emotions that create miracles. Because e motion is energy in motion. We attract vibrational frequencies which resonates with that e motion. The word miracle is derived from 2 parts. It literally means wonder and mirror. We create our existence. Our thoughts and emotions attract back to us our reality. If we feel wonder we will attract circumstances associated with the feeling. The beatles were right when they said the love we make is equal to the love we take.....❤

I love all of your content but truly enjoyed this one so much as is resonates as SUCH TRUTH! I have been raising children for some time now and only have 4 of the six of them still living at home and I am currently homeschooling our two youngest boys ages 9 and 6. We have started a small homestead and I'm trying to learn how to live a life more simple (simple, not easy). Intentionality with my time and efforts is something I had not thought about in such depth before. Taking the time to learn alongside my boys, and to actively seek the things to be in awe of has let me tap back into the me that I've known since my youth. The vibrancy and life and eagerness to continue to entertain curiosity and look at the world in this state of awe have been such a blessing. We have a curriculum that we use to study and learn of course, but the biggest and most exciting lessons, and I believe the most enduring ones, are often bred from embracing our awe and wonder and whatever path that leads us down that day. I'm looking forward to checking out Dacher Keltner's books!

🥹Now I know why Allah mentions so many things from the universe in The Quran and asks us to Wonder! And To Ponder on the Quran Itself! "Have they not then looked at the sky above them: how We built it and adorned it ˹with stars, leaving it flawless?" [Qaf:6] "You will never see any imperfection in the creation of the Most Compassionate. So look again: do you see any flaws?" [Mulk 03] ˹This is˺ a blessed Book which We have revealed to you ˹O Prophet˺ so that they may contemplate its verses, and people of reason may be mindful. [Saad:29] 😭Even the purpose of sending Quran is to Ponder & Wonder! Quran is really a Miraculous Book, The More I read and reflect, The More I know that it's truth and it's Surely from The God Of This Universe. Alhamdulillah! I didn't realize this until i watched this video 🥹This is for us, For our Mental Health For Our Wellness. Thank you Allah ❤️And thank you Dacher Keltner! For increasing my Faith. I Invite all Brothers and Sisters To Read And PONDER /REFLECT/WONDER/UNDERSTAND Quran and you'll never fine it's alternate!

When they listen to what has been revealed to the Messenger, you see their eyes overflowing with tears for recognizing the truth. They say, “Our Lord! We believe, so count us among the witnesses. [Al Maidah:83]
