I like how well you integrated the parts about palmyrene empire and went into details about its background. Would love to see a video that focused entirely on palmyra or maybe roman or east roman syria. Since these subjects dont get coverd that often or gets much attention on youtube. Love your videos regardless, gonna hate to watch the next part when Aurelian strikes back haha.

Around this time did they deserve anyone who was competant? Every time anyone rose up who looked even half way good at the job they were assassinated by some idiot or other. The Empire was no place to be a good leader, to many people were making to much money from the chaos.

@@geordiejones5618 the various barbarians never attacked simultaneously giving him time to face them one at a time, the horde of alemanni iutunghi and marcomanni where stupid enough to decide to split after ambushing his legions near lake garda, giving him time to reassemble his army and pick them one by one, zabdas the experienced palmyrene general serving under Zenobia was tricked twice by Aurelian, meanwhile the franks kept attacking tetricus while Aurelian was in the east, giving him time to come back before the Gallic Empire could make a move against Rome. Sounds pretty fucking lucky to me.

I'm honestly dissapointed that no one got the reference, I really enjoyed playing the Empire Divided campaign, it introduced some interenting mechanics to the gameplay that in my opinion made it more interesting and challenging to play.
Am I the only one who finds the papyrus openings at the start of every video strangely soothing and satisfying?

I'm currently modding the Empire Divided DLC of Total War:Rome II with a friend and our work will be added to the Divide Et Impera overhaul (we have the official support of DEI team). It will take a certain amount since we're only two people on this project. But if you really dig a PROPER Crisis of the Century mod for Rome II and not some shitty mix of Augustus and Attila textures/models, we're here to restore your hopes.

Yeah man, I remember trying to look up Aurelian on the web and youtube two years ago and there was almost no content about him. Its only been the past year that the Wikipedia was filled and videos coming out on him

What an epic video! Great narration too! The beginning with Zenobia was very poetic. Historians have really been putting in the work to uncover and put forth information on Aurelian recently. I remember looking up Aurelian on wikipedia and youtube couple of years ago and there was hardly any content about him. Now the wiki is full of stuff and people have enough info to make to make videos about him. This video is by far my favorite Aurelian video though. I look forward to Part 2.

Imagine how upset Odaenathus would be if he lived to see what his wife Zenobia did. The man was responsible for the “ghosts of the desert” and launched a campaign to the Persian Capital with an army of Roman survivors, peasants, and his own troops. Before that put down a revolt and 2 pretenders

Many peoples, the inhanitants of the abandoned province, didnt wanna leave their home, and only a small patt withdraw with the legions. That' s why dacia become a latin country Just like Italy or Spain or France.

@@oskareriksson2202 much more, the current romanian language still has 140 dacian words, many are still in use , some became obsolete, not anymore pronounced by romanians, these 140 words, a legacy from the past, before the arrival of romans...dacians, part of Thracia...

@@dand7763 yeah it's normal, same elsewhere, here in Italy for example in the local dialects survive many oscan words, Celtic words, greek words, in southern Italy in some Village they even speak grico, a greek dialect. It's normal, the latin was merged with local languages, same in France and spain

Amazing content, as usual. I love this turbulent period of Roman history. I feel like Aurelian marched 1,000,000 KM around his empire just watching this video. As always: HistoryMarche doesn't post as much, but when they do...it's most certainly worth the wait. But, it's depressing when it ends :(
I am completely in awe of Aurelian's accomplishments thus far. What a man, what an emporeor!
