    I got really excited and wrote a comment of elation before I finished the video. I was hoping for one that talked about OCS :/ I graduated several years ago and plan to go to law school next. (don’t think they have rotc?) My question is that I’m about to enlist as an intel analyst. Lots of people are trying to discourage me from going that route since I have a degree but I want to be an MI officer and have heard that if you have a intel analyst mos that when you go through OCS you are likely to get that MI officer versus someone who just goes straight to ocs. I go to basic in October, ait in February then will submit my packet for ocs school feb of 2020. My question is... is that a good plan or should I just try to go straight to ocs and skip the e4 route before? Also going Army National Guard if that is relevant. Still love all of your videos Matt! You have helped me prepare for so much! First generation military here so I need all the help I can get lol

  • @rafaeldiaz3375

    @rafaeldiaz3375

    6 жыл бұрын

    Hi! I want to be an MI officer also, I'm going to OCS in October... Focus on you MAIN GOAL. Is that to be an MI officer? Then going the enlisted route may not be the best option. It's very unlikely that you get your commander's approval for OCS by being just one year in your unit. As Matt has explained several times your chances to get the branch of your choice is based on the OML, not your previous MOS. Being said that, you said you are going as a RESERVE, so if you're applying to OCS a slot for your preferred brand should be GUARANTEED in your contract. Anyway it's just my opinion, hope this helps.

    @wardm89 Great info. long videos are good and often necessary. 3 questions. 1 - If you were prior enlisted (ie 88M)- do you get to switch MOS & branch, if you went to college/ROTC for something else totally different (ie 17A)? 2- If your major in college for something specific (ie nursing, accounting, IT) , can you wind up being in a branch/MOS that has nothing to do with your education after graduation/commissioning? 3 - If GPA is a major percentage for the final MOS placement, do they take in consideration the major, as some majors are just more "challenging" than others ?

  • @GTBANNA

    @GTBANNA

    2 жыл бұрын

    Hey Im a cadet and I can answer some of your questions. 1. Your enlisted MOS has nothing to do with your branch, you can put 88A at the top of your list if you want, or choose another branch. 2. Your major also has nothing to do with your branch, unless you plan to go to graduate school, or if your a nursing major. 3. It depends on the year, some years your GPA would be worth a lot of points on OML, other years it won’t. Depends on your cohort.

    Gerand Alcantara ROTC and OCS will GET you to the same thing (being a commissioned officer) but they are not the same thing. My recommendation would be to go talk to a Guard recruiter about a GRFD. This is a scholarship through the national guard, that will require you to complete Army ROTC at a University, and in return not only will they pay for your school, but the scholarship is one of the BEST scholarships you can get in a ROTC program. The guys I was with in rotc who had GRFD’s made bank while going to school, no need to get a job while going to school or anything. You will be required to go to a guard unit upon graduation as an officer.

    If you already have a college degree then talk to a recruiter, but if you dont have a college degree just do green to gold.

    Yes you can join, just as far as I know the ASVAB minimum score is like 50(ish) if you have a GED

    No I believe your 8 years restart after you get commissioned, but you keep your time in service, and can get extra pay until O3. (O-1E to O-3E) *I believe*

    I've talked about that in live streams and stuff but you just hang out with your battles. You can still do whatever on base or even hang out with another person's family
