@@annabellthedoll9953 The ones that aren’t Disney. Invade you are not aware they got the story from the brothers from and changed some things to make it more kid friendly and to have a happy ending. One of those things is that Athena is the mother of all 7 sisters. That is canon despite what you’ve heard.

What I found interesting is that Athena and Ursula's necklaces' are the same. Which leads me to believe that Ursula and Athena knew eachother and were friends or the amulet kept her mermaid form. After she died, Ursula took the necklace as a rememberance and for the power it held. Just a thought

I don’t feel like I agree with this sorry. I just think that Triton was just mad at the humans for killing his wife. The traits of wanting to go to the human world was just teenager behavior and curiosity but not only that it was just how the plot of the story went to match the other movie that they were copying it from. Also Ursula wouldn’t be buddy buddy with Athena either. Great theory attempt though.

According to the the Little Mermaid TV show Ursula is an outcast from her people as she was manipulating their ruler and started a war between them and Atlantica. The war ended when Triton discovered Ursula was controlling their king and freed him before Ursula could takeover.

If she was originally human, then she would have needed to adapt and learn the mermaid rules before marrying tritan.

Even if the theory is a valid one, it's just that a theory. I think that Athena was a mermaid and Triton was simply upset with humans due to a broken heart, and that he simply did not understand them. I fully believe that he and Ursula was siblings thought, and she got cast out of Atlantica for whatever reason. As for Ariel she is just exploring like any normal teenager would.

I know the folklore of mermaids . Ariel said that she is now 16 years old and the folklore states that when a mermaid reaches its 13th year the fish half takes over the human half . I was wondering if Ariel knows that or what would it be her father’s reaction would be if he heard that .

I think king triton had mutilple wife's with the different daugthers and all of them didn't work out. They all completely different not similar and the mother only had Ariel which is why only her was obsessed by humans of the DNA through her mum makes sense to me. Which is why the king made her more speical then the other daugthers, you can tell by the movies. I think it's more then just a hair colour to me. I wouldn't be surprised if the sea witch make Ariel's mother in to a mermaid to be with him and break his heart by killing her through the kingdom of hatred of the human race with the sea witch. Who was on that ship? could be the father who looked after the sea witch. If you think about it, she would do anything to destroy the king life it's sad but true.

@@rachelbadergray9929 In Greek myths, the goddess Athena is often portrayed as a redhead along with Aphrodite, but given the messed up origins of Greek myths and complicated relationships between Greek gods, I can only say that it's almost impossible for Athena to be Triton's wife and having a loving relationship like they showed us in the prequel, if the Athena in the prequel is the Athena we know from the Greek myths since Athena do have red hair in Greek myths, the marriage would be done out of spite, but Triton and Athena did have a loving relationship in the prequel, so it's more likely for Disney to take the physical description for Athena in the Greek myths, which is a redhead goddess, and then implemented that physical description on Ariel's mother and call her by the same name.

What about the theory of the redheaded mermaid from Peter Pan being her mother but at a younger age? That's why the pirates came after her, looking for Peter.

I wished they made her mum just a bit different and oh Triton being the red head.

There's no questioning that triton disliked humans because of the death of his wife... As arial love for humans.. I would say she fell in love with prince Eric enjoyed being in the human world.. eric was just a bonus... lol... Arial may have had her mother's love for curiosity/ singing/ a loving wife... traits that arial possess all to well... but I cant see her mother being human and then mermaid

I saw the movie as well it was cool my half sister on my dad's side and I have some thing common now btw she is nine years younger than me. I do agree, oh In Ariel's beginning I spotted the hock's ship. And you did catch what the queen said to Eric, you were brought to us by boat . Something smells fishy either Disney leading down a rabbit hole , there leading us in different ways. Either way is fine by me.

This sounds possible. I might not know all about Disney theories, but what I do know makes me think that maybe, Ursula, if she didn’t have a royal life as a child under the sea, would probably plan on using someone to help her get the crown from Tritan, because she obviously couldn’t marry her brother. So she decided to transform her only friend into a mermaid to try and convince him that she was needed in the palace. This is just my theory though. Then Athena and Triton fall in love and this is when Ursula thinks she wins. But Athena could also have worried this could happen. In which case, Triton would have already used his trident to turn her into a mermaid permanently. So that would mean Triton knew what Ursula was capable of and exiled her to her lair we see in the movie. It also means that he knew Athena was a human. I don’t think Triton would care about that because he comes off intimidating but he’s a big softy and he loved Athena very much. So I think his hate for humans is just a coping mechanism for the loss of his wife. Again, just a theory of my own.

Well seeing that King Triton is able to turn Ariel human in the first movie with no problem I can see how he'd be able to turn his love interest / future wife into a mermaid to be with him.

I can add this; but there is a few spoilers! When Ariel had Melody, she was OBSESSED with the SEA, just as MUCH AS ARIEL to BE a HUMAN.... But when Ariel realised Melody became a mermaid to be in the sea, she was told how much she loved the sea and why would Ariel hide it from her and Ariel said “I just wanted to protect you.” What if Athena wanted to protect her own family from *HER parents* so that’s when she wanted to be with Triton since he had the love she never got. This may be far fitches but what if the ‘pirates’ who killed her where her family. They got left behind because she was inlove with a MERMAN. Just how Ariel left her mermaid side BEHIND TO BE WITH ERIC. (Also the live action Little Mermaid is worth watching, i seen it but aint spoiling it)

Main issue with this theory is that its evidence comes from a non-canon source. Is it interesting? For sure. Is it actually possible? Absolutely not.

This theory involves heavily on the book Poor Unfortunate Souls, but that book is non-canon with the movies and TV series (which are canon with each other), which debunks the whole thing with Ursula's backstory from the book. The canon backstory is that Ursula was a member of an enemy race of the merfolk (the Cecaelia), and she tried to take over the kingdom, which resulted in her banishment. Maybe this theory can apply to the live-action movie, but not the original animated one.

Not entirely sure about the TV series being canon due some obvious contradictions, namely Ariel and Flounder's first encounter with each other and Kid Triton being a redhead when in TLM 3, his hair is brown. For that I'd say questionable at best, but that's just me.

I have a hypothetical idea about Queen Athena based on this theory and a theory about Cinderella's mother-in-law. If Athena met Ursula while they lived on land and Athena befriended Ursula, then Athena might have learned to love the sea through association with Ursula. After studying the pictures of Queen Charming and Queen Athena, I see a lot of similarities in both females, but there are some slight differences. With this in mind, what if Athena was a sister of Queen Charming? They might have gone sailing together, only to have their ship destroyed in a storm with Queen Charming drowning while Ursula was saving Athena by turning her into a mermaid to repay Athena for being the only other human to show Ursula kindness before Triton was able to tell Ursula the truth of her identity? So, if Athena and Queen Charming are sisters, that would make Ariel and Prince Charming cousins.

I'm sorry to say I'm not sure how much I agree, I'm not sure how many books Disney made cannon or movies, if we assume movies are cannon, well clearly Ursala had hatred for triton, wanted kingdom and they both had magic artifacts. Book little mermaid is not exact match to Disney, then you got mythology. I thought in mythology Poseidon was god of sea and triton was one of handful of his children. We don't know how much Disney used of that story. Other issue, in second movie, Morgana mentions Ursala, so to act like triton and Ursala were the only children until sequel, clearly the sibs weren't close and at least by little mermaid movie we see Ursala not like triton but not mentioning Morgana and I thought there was a song or diff thing where Ursala said she killed some sibs. If she was kind to Athena and turned her mermaid vs siren and after Athena was with triton, it wouldn't make sense if Ursala hated everybody for a long time. And I'd imagine if it's cannon she killed a few sibs, that wasn't all at once for no reason and why didn't triton stop her. And theoretically triton should have known Morgana existed so there was clearly issues in the family. Oh and my one gripe on ppl on net, is ppl think Disney is making up stuff for live action movies while forgetting all the musicals were grown up version. In lion king musical scar harasses Nala and hunchback of Notre Dame was cross between Disney animated movie and book. I think for little mermaid it was live action was just that unless incorporated adult ideas from musical. I need to check cuz I thought Ursala had 2 songs in musical. And wasn't it something on being mom's favorite, I forget, need to recheck, it's weird

If we go by this Athena and Tritan were God and Goddess.. Not a mortal human or mermaid.

You’re getting it all wrong. Ariel is the only daughter of Athena. That’s why area was next in line to take over Atlantica, but did not because she went to go rule hangman’s aisle with Eric. so Alana took over which is Aquaman’s mother. This was shown in the crossover comic for DC the Ariel shows up with Aquaman. Maybe try and just believed that Athena died, but she had to go back to the surface. Or maybe with the rumor that Athena was Lilith, which means that she was killed by Noah, AKA Gilgamesh. She was slain in a tree. This is expressed in the Bible as the screeching owl, as well as the epic of Gilgamesh. What you’re saying makes zero sense because if Athena her training he wouldn’t favor Ariel, he would take it out on Ariel. I the rest of them are not Athena’s daughters, and that’s explicitly expressed because of divine right. The air went directly to Ariel. That’s why he was so protective of her because her mother was the queen, which made her next in line, but because she shows not to lead Alana stepped up. Ppl need to watch the series. King Triton isn't the only ruler in the ocean. Their are actually other kings and queens along with other kingdoms. The Disney animated Triton is not the Greek Poseidon where there is but 1 ruler of the seas. Triton only rules Atlantica.
