How are things at Brora? | Small detour to the Brora distillery

The Brora distillery is located in the town of the same name in the Scottish Northern Highlands. It closed in 1983 but resumed production 38 years later after a major refurbishment by owner Diageo.
Since the distillery closed in 1983, there is not much Brora whiskey left on the market. The most commonly available bottles these days are vintage bottlings from the 70's and 80's, aged between 15 and 35 years. The distillery character is a slightly smoky Highland malt. There are still some independent bottlings from the distillery.
Unfortunately, a distillery tour at Brora was not possible. Nevertheless, Ben Lüning has a lot of exciting information ready for you on the current production status of the distillery.

Having done parallel tastings of Brora and Clynleish, in my humble opinion, they closed the right one.

So they would like to persue what Loch Lomond is doing? Fruity and sweet with some peat added to it? Very good choice in my opinion! Great video Ben thank you for sharing it. :)

Good information you've provided here, Ben. As you mentioned, it's really surprising (almost shocking) that nearly 40 years after they stopped production, the original copper stills are still intact and on-site. Having some of the original Brora new-make spirit to use as a reference is just icing on the cake. This distillery resurrection sounds very promising indeed.

If Brora wants to resurrect on the *RIGHT* *path*, from the get go, they better show 46% (or more) abv, non chill-filtered, an natural colour ON THE LABEL, and If possible, with an age statement. They better invest the money in some seriously good quality casks, and not overpaid "marketing" geeks & "brand ambassadors". Well, let's wait and watch! :)
