@@nogonperson7357 For sure on Eco it is, on turbo it whines a bit, is it annoying hmm it depends - if there is no wind and you are in the forest - then it is noticeable and can be a bit bothering, otherwise (any other road sounds and especially wind) you will notice it but it will not be that bad.

Thanks, great insight to the system, I have the X35 which is great and good to know there is an upgrade for the future. App good for setting up, esp customizing the 3 settings (tend to use 50% green most of time). But app eats mobile phone power, however my cycle computer (most good ones do) syncs with the X35 giving battery, setting, mileage etc.

wouldn't mind seeing an emtb with a mid-drive, and a small light-weight rear hub drive for a short boost or max effort. Or a 2 wheel drive hub motor bike, and see what kind of climbing or other difficult terrain you could tackle, on a fat tire bike setup.

great incite, i did wonder if they weather & tempature tested these motors, as i have found that in freezing conditions plastic geared cogs engaged with metal geared teeth or cogs can crack or break, then due to constant turning get ground up then need replacing, so it's good to see that they are tested in every way.

The only reason I didn't go with Mahle was the fact that I already have quite a few wheels. Ended up with Fazua 50, which has its own quirks, but easy to convert gravel and road depending on time of the year and other conditions. I'm more curious about the new TQ motor and even Bosch possibly coming up with a lightweight system.

I ride an Orbea Gain with an Mahle X35 system which adds about 4.4kg and features a 250 Wt-hr battery. It would be very helpful to compare these X20 with the X35 system. Also, Orbea is not currently offering any bikes with the X20 system. So, is this a brand new system from Mahle that is being introduced into the bike manufacture market?

It would be nice, to see the Mahle motors more in trekking bikes. There are only the really cheap bikes, that come with hub motors, but allmost all the more expensive european manufactures have jumped on the Bosch-Mafia-Train, as these mid drive systems are more expensive and need more often to be maintanenced and making the customer into a cash cow that they can milk again and again and again. I have one of the cheap bikes to get around in Berlin, and I love these small hub motors. No need for a mid-drive as long as you don't live in a very hilly area. I prefer this over my mid drive bike, as it is so simple and a wear set lasts over 12.000km. So please, more hub motors!

yea it's 3x less torque but doesn't weight 3x less than a full fat... why bother? just stick a full fat in eco and swap in a smaller battery... same thing but also the option to go big range or big torque. Being obsessed with weight is just an excuse for bike manufactures to try and charge more money... like a carbon MTB only weights 1.5kg less than aluminium.... so why bother? it's not road cycling where you need a feather light bike... just an excuse to try and charge a premium cos it's carbon... most people don't want carbon frames they all crack... just planned obsolescence
