How are High Quality Windows Made?

I always wondered what set apart one window from another, but I have never see how any windows are made let alone high quality windows. This is a very short video showing the steps and what goes into a highly automated process of making windows.
Big thanks to SIGA for setting up this tour and Haupt for letting us in to check how high quality winows are made in Switzerland

I lived in Germany for three years as a kid. The quality of windows and doors in most of Europe puts us to shame. If I were building a house in the USA, especially in a cold climate, I'd tell my GC to order the windows from Germany, Austria, or Switzerland.

It’s great! My shed has been completed and it turned out nice looking and sturdy and it is way better than the sheds that many of my neighbors had put up. Of course, I'm pleased with the outcome and this Ryan’s kzread.infoUgkxGZedDTcDfgD7fG_uU4esfx_EgxzlY2_1 Plans was extremely useful to me as a guide.

I’ve been to quite a few window and door manufacturing facilities over the years because I sell windows and doors. That one looked really nice. Most are not impressive to say the least, generally like a big shop with machines and lots and lots of people to do every step manually and not nearly as clean and organized as this one was. The only one I’ve seen that appears to be as nice as this one is Western Window Systems in Phoenix Az. One thing you notice at these higher end manufacturing facilities is that generally they have lots of career employees and most are seemingly very happy when you visit, unlike some of the ones that are chaotic and cluttered. I’d love to see their windows they looked really nice.

Putting on that much caulking is a bit excessive, but only cause Caulking won't hold up for over 30 years. They probably only use it where they can't get the other adhesives.

I think that if you want these types of windows to be affordable in the US, you have to have about 3 to 4 manufactorers in each State, and not only because of competition, but also in terms of transport. The US is so large, I can fly from NYC to San Francisco and that takes about 5.5 to 6 hours! And then you are still in the same country! If I fly from Amsterdam to the East for 6 hours I'm in Dubai!

All windows are NOT the same. Many of them are filling inert gas in between the two windows for better insulation factors. I know Andersen Windows do that, they had been using Argon back in the 1990's. Aluminum windows are not so good overall, wood clad with vinyl seem to be the best invention so far. Amazing detail that CNC mill works with those choices of tools. I wonder how long it takes for the operator to punch in all of the commands for an operation. It's always a learning experience to tour manufacturing facilities...they are so advanced in things we rarely see outside with finished products.

I'm really surprised they let you caulk that window. It is their reputation and warranty you could endanger. I have manufactured thousands of windows and doors, but installed only a few. As long as water can not penetrate, the wood should last, but if any water passes, rot does take over. Nobody maintains their windows.
