"I bought a whiskey barrel, check it out!" Haven't laughed so hard at a video intro while being so jealous ever before. Cheers on the quality vids-always excited to see an upload from you!

I would personally choose ubuntu server for a server. Arch's bleeding edge is cool... but needs active managing. A server needs stability and for it to just work. That's my take anyway. I use vanilla arch for experimenting, I use a more managed distro like Manjaro for daily use, and would pick a ubuntu based distro for a tertiary machine or server so I don't need to be grooming it all the time. All great tools, but as always - the right tool for the job. Also, cool whiskey barrel!

Debian seems to fit your needs better than Ubuntu. 1. Debian, unlike Ubuntu uses the LTS linux kernel. 2. Debian comes with a minimal install iso which is perfect for building up a setup with a window manager. Also, all the programs you mentioned, apart from alacritty, is available in the Debian repo so software availability shouldn't be much of an issue.

I think you're right there, and not the first person to mention it. When/if I switch, I might just use debian instead of ubuntu. Thanks for watching!

I do think that distribution matters if you have Nvidia card. With Arch based distros you're lose you're shit, unless you want to spend a lot of time fixing it, with ubuntu-based distros it's much easier. Used Manjaro and Endeavour for like 2 years, Endeavour by far better experience, but then I had to buy a laptop and all arch distros were shockingly bad on new RTX3070M, Asus ROG Scar 15. Pop OS is the only saving grace at the moment.

Vanilla debian is pretty fun to build from the ground up.

going deb because of stability why not going full debian, maybe even debian testing, instead of ubuntu.

That's not a bad idea, especially since the only minimal ubuntu installer I can find o;n there website is 18.04 for some reason.

Ubuntu sucks for desktop use tbqh. If you want to make Arch more stable, run the LTS kernel (and don't run stuff like Manjaro). And yes, running an Arch server is a dumb idea, that's where Ubuntu really shines.

I agree, I've been running the LTS kernel for a while on Arch, and it's a great experience. Seems like the best of both worlds, and no real downsides vs. the standard linux kernels, unless you count inevitably breaking things when you install the wrong package for your gpu drivers, or linux-headers.
