How and Why to Backup More than Just Your Images after an Astrophotography Session (Free Script)

As a continuation to my recent Remote Copy Plug for NINA2.0 video, today I am officially releasing/sharing my Patriot Astro End Of Night Script! This script ensures I have everything I need at my fingertips if I ever need to troubleshoot an issue. It is also a life saver in situations where I need to restore critical configuration files on my astro imaging PC. Archival of critical data is a must in this hobby and can save you many hours if you ever find yourself performing a rebuild of a system or installing a new one.
It is completely customizable and the task list can be easily modified to suite your own needs.
I really hope this helps you! Let me know how you like the scripts and content like this.
Where do I get the Patriot Astro End of Night Script?
patriotastro.com/end-of-night...
Please know that while I run this script at the end of my NINA sequences, it is just a windows batch script and can be run at any time, even manually from the command-line. Use it any way you like!

I LOVE the Batch Script. I've written hundreds of these over the years to do some pretty crazy stuff. My most complex was over 10,000 lines and did things like generating and executing dynamic SQL commands that output query results into formatted HTML. Batch is highly under rated.

Thank you so much Jason. It is 100% underrated. I can totally understand why people would code in other languages, but when it can be done in something that doesn’t require an install, why not use what’s already there? I mean, if you’re using Nina, you’re running Windows 10 or Windows 11… So I know it’s supported. I don’t really have to give it any thought whatsoever.

I'm speechless. This is an awesome job. More than usual, if that's even possible.

Thank you so much. I was hoping to provide something that at least a few people would also find value in. It’s sort of a ‘set it and forget it’ capability. You don’t even realize it’s there until you need it, and then you’re smiling ear to ear.

Thanks so much for the time you put into this. If I want to revert back to a stable version of NINA from a currently nightly build, can you walk me through how I would use the NINA template and profile backups on a freshly installed NINA? Thanks so much!!

Do you do engineering or something else heavy in the quality control? There's a really strong 'best practice' vibe to this series. Not just a how to, but a how to do it robustly and give you something that will work well.

I’ve been in cyber security for a really long time, … actually way before they added the word cyber to security, … and before most people even had security teams. LOL. I’ve just learned that there’s a right way and a wrong way to do things. Don’t get me wrong, I still go down the wrong path occasionally, but I do like to think things through and make sure to the best of my ability that what I share is already well vetted. :) glad you find it helpful. Thanks for watching!

If I'm following your code (and perhaps I'm not) - at least in the EON file you shared - the presumption is that your image processing PC is on your network and this may not work when imaging away from home. Or would you simply run the script again after you returned from say a darker sky location? Thanks for all you do to make this channel such a great resource.

Trying to share the wealth on using affiliate links.. but not everyone's was working you get them all - moving from DSLR to cooled mono-chrome astro-camera, filter wheel and a full set of 7 Antlia filters via Agena... hopefully that helps fuel the KZread content!

I am waaaay behind on responses - sorry!!! I assume out of the gate that the purpose of the EON script is to move on the network, BUT you can define a local path in the files instead if desired, like to a local USB drive. So that should work too.
