    Hi! You said that when repotting succulents, you need to carefully take off all the soil from the roots and can do it through running water then air dry. when you air dry them, how long does it usually take?

    The description you gave for "soil starting to lose it's quality" is actually just what you would see in a peat-based soil after it has dried significantly. It can be remedied by bottom watering-- but I do think that peat moss is just a poor soil for succulents anyway, so might as well repot into a different medium entirely lol

    I just bought the echeveria Perle Von Nurnberg. I had a feeling it needed to be "potted up", as it was still in the grower's pot and appeared to be cramped. It's a great looking little plant that will eventually get a lot bigger, so I figured now was a good time(summer) and when I was going to pot one I got in the mail. What was in the mail? About a foot long couple of stems along with their roots from what's known as a "Traveler's Palm"(Ravanala Madagascariensis). I hope I spelled it right. I got it from Urban Tropicals in less than 2 weeks, which I thought was fast. Can't wait for it to start growing. Great channel, BTW from a subscriber in Lake Charles, LA.

    When you say clean the dirt off the roots like tap it or wash it with water can you detail that a little more? Are you washing all of the previous dirt off? So that its just root or is there still old dirt while replanting it. Thank you so much!

  • @SucculentsBox

    @SucculentsBox

    3 жыл бұрын

    Hi there, after getting the succulent out of the old pot, you can tap the root to get the dirt off or you can choose to clean it with water. In some cases, the root may be too long, you may want to trim it a little bit. If you use water to clean the root, let it dry in cool places for 3 to 5 days (avoid direct sunlight and rain). If your plant is healthy, you don't need to remove all the old soil while cleaning the root system. We hope this clarifies!

    Thank you for your support. We appreciate it!! Some signs indicating that a succulent starts “sleeping” is that it stops producing new growth completely, the leaves might turn yellow/brown and either drop or hang limply off the sides of the succulent stem. In some rosette succulent species, the rosettes might contract. For more details please visit succulentsbox.com/blogs/blog/succulent-dormancy-101

    Using a moisture-retentive soil is generally not ideal for most succulents, succulents thrive in well-draining, gritty soil mixes. Of course you can! But please take note that choosing the right dressing material that matches your containers is also important. Also, grow light is needed in case your succulents don't get enough sunlight! The most two common types of grow light for indoor succulents are Fluorescent and LED. You are recommended to place them properly to get enough light as well. I recently got some succulents but I have no idea what kind they are. Do you know how to identify succulents? I've tried googling but it didn't really work. And when it comes to potting and dormancy, if you keep them inside all year around do they ever go dormant? If not, can you re-pot them at any time of the year or is it still important to re-pot them during specific months? Is the month still important when it comes to re-potting them from the nursery pot aswell? Sorry for the amount of questions, I just want to make sure I do it right and don't accidentally kill them since it's my first time Edit: I dropped one of my small succulents and since we don't have pots nor the right soil yet I just put it back in the nursery one. It's the middle of winter where I live too, snow and everything, so I'm scared I might've disturbed it. What do I do? For some info, it's only been at my place for a day. I bought it directly from a store and all it had to go through was a quick car ride. It seems okay and has no broken leaves, although I couldn't quite see the stem/base so I don't know if it's damaged. It was a pretty short fall too, only a few inches if I'm not wrong so hopefully it should be fine

    Hello there, my apologies for the delayed response; I hope your plants are still doing well. And I hope that my below answers provided you with some useful suggestions. 1. I know that when you first started collecting succulents, identifying them felt like a nightmare. When recognizing succulents, check for the following plant characteristics: Shape, size, and thickness of a leaf Color - the color of leaves, flowers, or stems. Leaves with markings or bumps. For further information, please see this link on our website: succulentsbox.com/pages/how-to-identify-succulents?_pos=1&_sid=53c0dc691&_ss=r 2. Dormancy happens when the environment in which your succulent develops turns unfavorable. Because it is easier to adjust the temperature of a place indoors, outdoor succulents often undergo dormancy more frequently than indoor succulents. However, it is totally natural for your indoor succulent to fall dormant throughout the winter months! You should also avoid repotting your succulents when they are dormant. More care guidelines may be found at succulentsbox.com/blogs/blog/how-to-care-for-dormant-succulents-in-the-winter?_pos=1&_sid=9f4e589d6&_ss=r 3. It's always ideal to re-pot it right before its growing season, which for most succulents is in early spring or early fall. While repotting succulents is not difficult, it is critical that you carefully follow the instructions. Look it up at succulentsbox.com/blogs/blog/p-strong-how-to-report-succulents-3-important-steps-you-shouldn-t-miss?_pos=3&_sid=a9473ea0d&_ss=r 4.It is now time to bring the plant indoors. By winterizing your succulents, you can keep track of them. After you've removed the "bad things from the pot," changed the soil, watered lightly, cleaned, and replaced the pot (if necessary). For more information, maybe you need to check out succulentsbox.com/blogs/blog/how-to-prepare-your-succulents-for-winter-time?_pos=4&_sid=048e2a56e&_ss=r Therefore, please do not hesitate to let us know via support@succulentsbox.com if you have any troubles with it or if you need any help.

    I think I messed up. I bought some new succulents yesterday and immediately moved them to new pots, along with ones that I have been trying (probably unsuccessfully) to grow from just a branch. I didn't knock away the old soil I just squeezed the pot a little and turned it upside down then placed that in a new pot and put new soil around the old. Did I just kill 6 new plants? Also it's winter here in Australia, I have no idea if the plants I have are dormancy (never even heard of that until this video) so I'm worried I double messed up.

  • @SucculentsBox

    @SucculentsBox

    2 жыл бұрын

    Hi John, it's possible to reuse potting soil. But first, do a few things to perk it up-and replace its nutrients. If you don't have enough new soil to repot these plants again, you can search for how to revitalize old potting soil on the internet. Or you can check out this blog succulentsbox.com/blogs/blog/succulent-dormancy-101 to get a rough idea of the dormant period for different succulent species, and of course, some care guides too. Another way to tell if your succulents are dead or just need is to check its roots. Even though the plant might look dead, the roots are healthy. You can remove your succulents from the pot to see if their roots look shriveled, dry, or mushy. If they’re not, your succulents are likely to be in dormancy. Hope this helps

    Hi there, first please move the infected plant away from other plants. You should clean them by rinsing them under a strong stream of water. At the same time, clean the pot in hot, soapy water. Then, let the plant and the pot dry and replant with new soil. After that, you need to kill the mealybugs by spraying your succulent thoroughly using rubbing alcohol (isopropyl alcohol) or neem oil & soap mixture. Do this every week until you don’t see any more bugs. Hope this helps!

  • @SucculentsBox

    Hi there, as you know, succulents require dry soils with good drainage, so a porous sandy potting mix is ideal for growing healthy succulent plants. If you don't have a sandy soil mix, you can use potting soil or cactus soil with pumice or perlite to help with drainage. Do you leave the soil loose or pack it down?

  • @SucculentsBox

    @SucculentsBox

    2 жыл бұрын

    You should leave it a little loose. Don’t just poor it in loosely and leave it. Loosely packed is what you are going for. You want it to have enough density that the water doesn’t run right through but not so much that the plants roots can’t spread.

    Hi there, if the root ball is very tight, gently loosen it up with the back end of a blunt tool, such as the back of a spoon handle. This helps it to adjust to the new soil and container.

    how many days should I wait after a repot before watering my succulents?

  • @SucculentsBox

    @SucculentsBox

    Watering of a repotted succulent depends much on each type and when it was last watered. Generally, you're recommended to wait at least 1 week after repotting. Be sure the soil is dry, then wet it thoroughly without drowning. 🧐

    It may cause your succulent's root to rot because there won't be enough air pockets and the roots will not be able to breathe properly 😥

    pumice stones in soil to increase its drainage which is crucial for succulents in order to prevent root rot. The ones on top of the soil are just white pebbles

    Yes! Choose a new pot that is only 1-2 inches wider than the current one. Succulents don't like being in pots that are too large.

    What is dormancy period??

  • @SucculentsBox

    @SucculentsBox

    3 жыл бұрын

    Hi there, dormancy is a period in plants when their growth and physical activity are temporarily slowed down. This is often stimulated by unfavorable changes in environments such as extreme temperature, dryness, etc. When a succulent goes into dormancy, it will minimize metabolism activity to conserve energy until the environmental conditions get better. Hope this helps

    Hey plant lovers. How can i find out if my succulent is winter dormant or summer dormant? I have a hard time identifying it's species. It likes a lot of sunlight but never direct. And it sort of seems to be growing new leaves and new roots(in between the bottom leaves) in the summer but i could be wrong as it doesn't seem to stop growing very slowly.

  • @SucculentsBox

    @SucculentsBox

    It's best to allow your succulents to recover for a few days before giving them water. The reason behind is to prevent excess water from getting inside the plant cells that may cause it to rot. However, if your succulents arrived with completely dry soil, then watering them thoroughly right away is fine!
