    Good job. Changing your own oil can be a right of passage for the new rider. It allows you to get more familiar with your bike by seeing and touching parts that you normally wouldn't. For me, it provides a deeper feeling of ownership and oneness with your ride. Unfortunately I get to pay full price for all my service needs at my local dealership because of my physical limitations. One helpful hint my father passed on to me is using a cheap plastic drop cloth (5 for $5 at lowes) to cover the area under your pan and Ryker. That'll keep you from getting those errant oil drips from used gloves, drain plugs, and splashes from the drain pan on the driveway or garage floor. Another great video. Thanks

    Hi Kevin!!! That was written so well and perfectly captures how I felt changing the oil. It is definitely a feeling of oneness with the bike. Well said! Your dad was a smart man! I put a garbage bag down, but clearly wasn't enough. Had to run out and buy the sand to clean up my oil spills. It worked great and I now have 10 lbs of it!! lol I wish you lived closer, I would gladly change your oil for you. Now that I have done it, the next time will be a breeze...especially if I am not recording and talking my way through it! Stay well my friend!

    Great video. I do have one suggestion (only because you have a beautiful brick driveway). Lay a big piece of cardboard down under the front end to catch the drips from the drain plugs, etc. Big enough to set you oil drain pan and oily tools, drain bolts, etc. so your driveway brick don't get oil stained.

    Great video. Love what you do. Just as a precaution: the 2021 Rykers require 2.98 quarts of oil vs 3.5 quarts I 2019 and 2020. There were changes in 2021, such as a larger gas tank (no longer cap less). Just make sure to check the owners manual.

    Scott, thank you for your comment. But from everything I have read and been told, those are just rumors and not true at all (except the gas tank is no longer cap less). Same size gas tank and same size *engine (same amount of oil). *900 requires more than the 600 If you look on the Can-Am website, it shows only 2 variations of oil change kits: 600 and 900. All models, all years

    @@RykerRydes I wish I could show you the owners manual of a 2021 Ryker Rally, but it states 2.98 quarts for 900. Irregardless of what these rumors are out there. People need to make sure they read the owners manual first. I checked the oil after I changed it adding 3 quarts and it was in the middle of the dip stick. PS the ECM is different in 2021 over 2020. I had BLR tuning performed mine and had to wait until he could 2021 based on this per Bill Ramsey. So there a number of differences in the 2021 model. I hope that people check their owners manual before doing items like oil changes. I am not sure why their website does not post the differences. I guess there is a reason not to trust the internet.

    Also I looked at my manual for the 2021, the 600 requires 2.5 L (2.64qt.- imagine trying to measure that out) and 900 reared 2.8L (2.96 quarts not 2.98quarts as stated above - I used my memory). I bought synthetic oil and they sent me 4 quarts. I sent a photo of the 2021 manual oil change through Facebook. I guess I get to save a quart per oil change for my 2021😎.

    Thanks Beth for the video! I was wondering how hard it is to change oil and filter. One thing I noticed Can Am has the specs for the Bolts. They had 30 NM or 22lbs ok then 15 NM or 18 lbs. The math doesn't work. I looked it up and it is 11 lbs for 15 NM. I know it doesn;t matter. You seemed very happy or I should almost say giddy, working with your husband. I just picked up my Rally today and yes I'm at work, but tomorrow I took the day off to ride. The first thing I did was to try out the horn. I am still laughing about the no horn situation. Thanks again

    Should I change my oil for the first time at 200 miles right after the brake in period

  • @RykerRydes

    @RykerRydes

    3 ай бұрын

    Ahhh the big oil change debate..... my experience: I changed my oil for the first time at 4,000 miles and I now have close to 25,000 miles on her and running great. My manual (2019) states the first oil change should be done at 6,000 miles or 1 year (whichever comes first). I do believe the newer manuals state that the oil should be changed after the break in period. My 2 cents: It can never hurt the bike to do too many oil changes. Is it necessary at 200 miles?...not sure. If you can afford it, or are able to do it yourself, why not do it. The bike does come with a magnetic drain plug that will catch any metal shavings that may come off during the break in period. Bottom line, changing the oil is probably the single best thing you can do for your Ryker. I do it once a season, if it needs it or not.
