I'm gonna take a small engine repair course to expand my knowledge on this stuff, anyway I like your videos, how did you acquire the skill and knowledge to take apart bikes and repair them?

    Quality video. For tire removal and I always start near the rim lock, it allows the opposite side to drop further into the rim center. When mounting, before inserting valve stem into the rim, place the lower side of the tire under the rim lock, this makes the install easier and holds the tire in place. For some extra style points, line up the printed tire name and valve stem. I have watches dozens of videos on the subject and changed dozens of tires, yours is one of the better videos.

    Tip. Buy yourself a Michelin patern tyre lever for remounting. It is curved to alow you to easily slide the tyre and tube onto the rim without it being pinched. It reduces the amout of force needed compared to using tyre spoons or standard levers. Also use proper tyre talc and bead seating paste, it makes life ao much easier and you don't have to worry about degradation of the tube or rim corrosion as can happen if using soap etc.

    One of the best tire change videos. One point, you want to line the white dot on the sidewall with the rim lock. If no rim lock, line it up with the valve stem. The white dot indicates the lightest point on the tire .

    Nice video. To help the bead set in the "well" you can use a spoon left in the on the opposite side or pick up another cheap bead buddy. I used a 15 inch steel wheel with no tire from a car to change for a long time. Bolted that with wood to a bucket. Got a stand like you have. Then started using bibs. Learned to mount with a regular stand. Have upgraded to a rabaconda stand with a bead breaker bar so looking forward to learning that. Take the time to learn proper technique. I struggled on the garage floor with 3 crappy 8 inch irons. The bought a few nice 17 motion pro ones with the curve. Love those and still use them. I upgraded when I started using bibs to 3 huge spoon type and 2 bead buddies. Just started gradually adding stuff. Same with tools.

    Good video. I’ve been changing tires for a long time on a bucket. . I think it’s easier with the bucket flipped over so you’re not trying to balance it on the rotor. And you can use it to put valve core etc in so you don’t loose them.

    @mattberger Question: main ingredient of Windex is ammonia. Ammonia does degrade rubber. So it seems spraying ammonia on my tires and tube is 'bad' but you are a tire engineer and suggest spraying ammonia on my tube and tire, so what is going on here? I use silicone spray....great lube that does not degrade rubber and helps to prevent pinch flats on the trail.😊

    I just found your channel. Didn't know you were a Kenda engineer. I've had Kenda K270s on dual sports before and really liked them. What's a good proper non DOT dirt tire from kenda for soft trails? I'm in Houston Texas and our trails are all Sand and mud. Looking for a new tire for my CRF250X

    Many times I seem to get a bulge in the sidewall of a freshly mounted tire right at the valve stem. This makes for a lump as the tire goes around. Does anybody know how to prevent that and once it's there how to get rid of it? It seems to happen often on soft carcass tires such as shinko 241 and others. Thanks

    3:27 what if you have 2 rim locks about 150 degrees apart? 12:24 what are your thoughts on the Honda rubber grommets instead of a hex nut?

    @nvmcrider8475

    You need the hex nut when installing the tire, once you're finished and have set your tire pressure, removed the nut and install the grommet. The grommet keeps dirt out and allows the valve stem to have some wiggle room to decrease the chance of the stem getting torn out. You only need 1 rim lock, ideally the rim lock and valve stem are 4 spokes apart, this makes tire changes easier.

    Matt, question, why not put the first side of the tire on, then put the tube in, the put the second side of the tire on? I watched this a couple of times and it looks like the spoon keep pressing against the time on the first side of the install.

    Great question. You can do it either way, but you will always be "battling" something. If you wait to put the tube in, it can be very difficult to get the tube correct in the tire and the valve stem in the hole. I find this battle to be more difficult, so I prefer to put the tube in first.

    You forgot about the heavy/light spot dot or is that all bs? I put mine opposite the valve stem and at valve stem, tried both, makes no difference. Windex wasn't slippery enough, I just use diluted dish soap.

    On an off-road dirt bike application, this would have very little impact! On-road tires, it's definitely not bs.
