I ended up choosing the cashback route with American Express. I currently have the Blue Cash Everyday and it's a very good card.

I wish I could justify the platinum, but I like simplicity. Personally I prefer cash back going into my bank account

Great job of explaining clearly how the three Amex reward programs work!

Also get MR points if you have an Amex bank checking account! Not a lot but it still gets you MR points Also there is the Charles Schwab investor card which gives you 1.5 cashback. Not the greatest either but I like those cashback going into my investor account. 😌

Not everyone is as articulate as you are explaining all three options. Can you do an advance video on the transfer partners program. I need to learn how to get the most out of my MR points. Not looking at once in a lifetime trips but good return on domestic flights.

Honestly I don't know that there is a consistent strategy to use. It is sort of comparison shopping between AmexTravel.com and Delta and the other transfer airlines. Some people talk a good game about using international airlines that are part of an airline alliance to find "secret" fares on domestic flights, and sometimes these weird pricing discrepancies are true, but the problem is they are rare and may not be to a destination you are looking for. I think it is less about "tricks" to locate the best deals and more about how much time you are willing to look for every possible option, knowing that in the end looking for that needle in the haystack could be a waste of time (and being OK with that). Every once in a while you'll find a great deal, but more often you won't, and some people have more patience and get more enjoyment out of the hunt than others.

Thank you. Just the dose of reality I need to help me on my quest to find a reasonable return on my MR points. Not everyone has the time to find that needle in the haystack.

The points game is over. More and more it’s costing 1.5 percent to use a credit or debit card. These credit card people make money by promoting credit card companies. Listen with care

That is a non-starter argument because you pay the same price for goods and services even if you pay cash. Ask your supermarket for a discount on your bill if you pay cash and see what happens.

@@nickv4073 can you think? If you pay an additional 1.5 percent to the just because you use a card you are paying more. You would be better paying cash. You would save 1.5 percent instantly. 1.5 percent seems to be the low end of what they charge for using a card.
