I had a first-time DC20 player for my session yesterday that played a sorcerer. When the party's Angelborn made the mistake to don some demonic armor, this player poured ALL FOUR AP -- and ALL HIS GRIT POINTS -- to pry the magic out of his friend's head, allowing the armor to be removed! EPIC MOMENTS!!!

I think the word "points" is coming up more often than it needs to, it could just be me but i feel like you can convey the same message with just "manna", "stamina", "health", while keeping it for "rest point" and any other examples where adding points helps to get the meaning across. Just a thought 😊😊

I much prefer saying points than not. To me saying you can spend a mana feels like the nana is a physical thing like a coin or item. The nana or stamina aren't physical things. So having points to measure it feels better to me than saying there is a number of mana.
@crystallxix1493
19 күн бұрын
@@dracodominus2800but… points aren’t a physical thing either lol. It’s just a term used to refer to a certain value you can spend, the name itself is meaningless. What matters is avoiding overlap and making sure the name gives some indication of what it’s for. Going from Mana Points to Mana makes perfect sense
@dracodominus2800

@@crystallxix1493 thats exactly my point. (No pun intended). Points are not a physical thing, just a measurement. But saying I spend 5 mana implies you have physical number of mana. Also, on the specific topic of the magic system, my only ask was switching from slots to mana, but you didn't just think outside of the box. You destroyed it! I love the ability to upgrade and flavor spells to the needs at the moment. Genius!

Finally someone that understands bards were actually the historians of the olden days. When people could not get educated and go to school and write, everything's was passed down in oral traditions. Story tellers were highly prizes in older times and indeed the still are as we are still captured by stories in a screen.

I'm playing a rabbitfolk bardtlemaster (Bard/Battlemaster) Who does that, but he's small and cute. So his voice is bright and determined instead of deep. His magic is essentially manifesting the stories of heroes he grew up hearing about.
"Prepared Spell" sounds more like a "Signature Spell" to me, but I'm loving everything DC20 is bringing to the table.

He didn't really say it, but the rules text indicates that they can choose a different spell to become the Prepared Spell after every long rest. I second this, brother! Go Coach!
Spell-slots have ALWAYS felt off and not well thought out so it was the 1st thing to be removed when I became a game designer! Glad to hear y’all see things the same way! 😊
Love the wizard being able to move the sigil! Wizard is my favorite 5e class, and I liked the idea of the sigil. But having to stand in one spot the whole battle didn't make much sense (though it did make the wizard an easier target).
YES! As a really old school wizard-phile I have been annoyed by all these classes stealing my thunder and mechanics. If they cast mechanically different that will make them feel like different class and not toe stepping on spell thieves.
Can't wait to test out the new rules for 0.7, and can't wait for the Kickstarter
I really like the contrast between the wizard and sorcerer, the wizard looks much more consistent while the sorcerer has the potential to do more damage but with more risk, I also like how the system of combining spells makes having two casters in would make them both feel good since the mechanics benefit teamwork.
Very pumped for the KS! This is the single most promising RPG (for my particular taste) I have seen in a very long time. Speaking of magic: Do spells have material components? In my experience, no one ever pays those any mind and unless they're super expensive they don't matter. Not a fan.
This sneak peek of the 0.7 rules shows how you can and have elevated each class in their own unique, classical and respectful way Keep up the good work Coach
Brilliant way to make the casters FEEL different 👍 Very customisable so it seems you can really nail the power fantasy you're going for. :) DC20 deserves to be popular. An elegant system.
I really like the idea of a Bard who paints their spells in the air. It reminds me of Relm from Final Fantasy 6. I definitely have to play this Bard!
Finally I can play a painter bard! Painting spells onto the battlefield was such a cool idea and D&D had almost no way to live that fantasy
I love the artwork on the thumbnail! Instead of only being elegant scholars, we should allow for spellcasters to be fierce channelers of power
I absolutely love the druid domain. It really mechanically enforces the idea that druids power is in the land, it makes sense that their magic should be very positional, and physically there on the map. I really hope as they level they can lean more into this idea.
Been saving for months for the KS. Can't wait!!!!
KICKSTARTER!!!! LET'S GOOOO!!!!
Realy love what you did here. All off these are really unique and instantly convay a destinct Mental Image, jet they not feeling limeting for the Flavor of individual Characters. My only slight concern is that it seams a bit hard to track all of these individual Effects especially for newer Players. Things like the Wizards Reduction having to be tracked separate from their Arcane Points despite having similar applications.
I really loved the Druid and this domain thing. You were so creative on that

The Warlock class fantasy makes me think of Chainsaw Man. I wonder if there's a space for some kind of Warlock feature where you beseech your deity for a benefit and you incur some kind of status effect. Like, maybe you produce a powerful divination effect without spending MP, but, in exchange, you're blind for a minute or so as you exchange your sight for the ability to see the future or something. IDEA: You perform a sacred rite to seek counsel with your deity. This can be part of a long rest (?) After doing so, you gain a benefit that you keep until you perform this rite again. However, you also gain a status effect (a bane) as you exchange a part of yourself for access to this magic. These banes and boons could be inherently tied to one another, or there could be some kind of "contract" table where you choose the bane you take.

Alternative and additional costs for casting spells has always been a favorite of mine. The safest thing would be having ingredients while other spellcasting classes may pay a bigger price for more power.
Really looking forward to the kickstarter! Hopefully we get enough to bring down the action tracker price!
Wow! You knocked these out of the park! Exceeded my expectations (which were already very high).

This sounds great. I wish you nothing but the greatest of luck with this.
One of my favorite things about the DC 20 0.7 preview is the Divine tag on Find Familiar. A huge gripe about 5e is the narrowness of the Cleric spells' scope, and I look forward to seeing what else they get.
I’m really excited for this even if I’ll have no one to play it with :P I wish you luck in the kickstarter
2/3 of these rules exist in *TORMENTA20* for Spellcaster, but some of the differences are pretty cool.
Not going to lie; the idea of the bard breaking into a haka at the start of combat sets a freaking tone you don't get out of.
I love this. I live your excitement 🎉
This is so good! 💯 nailed warlock.. really felt the Gul’dan vibes… and the bard counter charm.. chef kiss
I think it’s a really good thing that I can’t make a choice. They’re all so damn good and the potential for fun in all of them. You’re such a different journey in a different ride slipping in a theme park. I want to ride all the rides but just one and each one will be an experience onto itself, such a good job. I can’t wait for the kickstart I’m sold.
I love the creativity here. The Druid innovations sound wonderful. I'm totally making a Giant Flying Spider.
When you mentioned how a bard could just start talking once combat broke out i immediately thought of Mr.Hippo from fnaf. Like imagine a fight breaks out and everyone pulls out magic weapons and begins casting spells and then the purple Hippo is just like. "My friend, you have met a terrible, terrible demise. But, uh, you know, I-I don’t feel too bad about it. After all, if- if it weren’t from me, it would have just been from someone else, ya know? I guess what I’m trying to say is life, life goes on. W- well, from- for everyone else, life goes on. Not- not for you, you’re, you're dead." I wouldn't be able to handle it.
Great video and so informative about the game
Fun Fact: that dance he was refering to is called a Haka (iirc) and would be done before battle as a means to threaten, taunt, talk mad shit all while hypeing up the warriors and getting them in the space for a fight!
I have lost count of the features in DC20 that are mind blowingly brilliant! The Druid wild form allowing you to quickly piece together whatever animal you want is such a good idea! No more carrying around a stack of different stat blocks or taking 5 minutes to look up if a house cat has dark vision. You just decide that this particular house cat does and your good to go. Love it!
Love what you did with the bard! And honestly all of them but as a bard man myself *subtle approving nod*
I've said it before but I'm so excited for an artificer in DC20.
The amount of horror the Druid can become with the different traits. I imagine a Druid of rot turning into half skeletal abominations, the “Putrid Druid”
this project is so exciting
Looking forward to the Kickstarter. 2 Kickstarters coming in June that are getting my money.
I'm jumping on this Kickstarter so hard
Omg i just got inspired to play druid and bard again! Got it all figured out: play an intro of inspiration as verses, followed by battle choruses, and tendrils of vines will deliver lightning to shock them while i switch songs back and forth until an emotional bridge 🎸🎶🤘
The more I hear about this game, the more it reminds me of Pathfinder2e. And this is a good thing! Also I love that you are using the ORC Licens. (What reminded me this time was the Sorcerer using any spell school :) )
My feedback to WotC for Druid wildshape was to create a central star block then allow players to add specific animal traits (spider web, scorpion poison, whatever). It’s huge for me that this is the way in DC20.
Awesome. I like it very much. Looking forward to KS 🎉 and the Spell Blade class (Paladin) reveal. 🙂👍🏻
I'm a bit worried about losing the ability to write spells from spell scrolls for the Wizard. I know the lack of (traditional) preparation casting makes that a bit broken, but it was one of my favorite parts of the class. I've been suggesting my D&D group makes this switch, but I play a Wizard, and I'd be really sad to see that go. Having a little side-project to gather gold for and build towards is SUPER fun. Overall, I think the key difference between my vision of a Wizard and my vision of a Sorcerer is: Wizards have a lot of SPELLS, whereas a Sorcerer has less spells, but can cast those spells they DO have more often. Feel like you nailed the Sorcerer, a bit more worried about the Wizard. But maybe I missed something, idk. I also think the Warlock should remain... WEIRD as far as the Spellcasters go. Having less spell slots, but the spells you DO cast hit harder has always felt like a core part of the class. And will there be invocations? Making the switch from D&D to DC20 will be hard to pitch to the warlock player base if they lose out on something akin to Eldritch Invocations. I strongly recommend making the "life tap" and "life drain" parts at level 2 part of a specific subclass, like an Undead subclass, so the main-class can get invocations at level 2 instead. I really don't see Warlocks as "casts spells willy nilly" type casters, moreso saving them for the right moment, and unleashing the unimaginable might of their patron all at once. then maybe have a non-mana based system for the Warlock's spellcasting, because Mana feels tied to your specific character, but the magic of the Warlock is external. Feels like it clashes with the theming of the class imo. I think the 5e Warlock is the class that needed the LEAST change, at its core, except for maybe its "eldritch blast spam" thing, but I feel like it was completely stripped of its identity here, unfortunately.
The only thing I’m kinda mixed on is stamina vs mana since one is renewable while the other is fixed per refresh, which can give more favor of one over the other depending on encounters per day for your group’s playstyle. Other than that, hell yeah I enjoy the interactivity of the spellcasting. God I hate the “spell slot” system, and as much as I adore PF2E I hate that they made it even clunkier
I really love the prime stat idea for how it handles different takes on magic. D&D has used mental stats for casting for so long its assumed, but when we look at magic in media there are some really fun physical casters. Anime is full of physical characters like Natsu Dragneel and Mereoleona Vermillion who built monsterous bodys to be able to withstand and channel powerful magic. Likewise there are concepts like water and air benders as well as various spell dancers that imply a very dexterous casting style. On a similar note characters like Superman, All Might, or even the Hulk often act as the bard, inspiring their team through acts of sheer physical strength. These characters are appreciated for their strength but often the greatest effect they have is inspiring their team and showing their is hope. I need to see a finished product before i decide whether this will be my next main system, but i love so many of the concepts you have come up with. Inherently balancing stats before tying them to class features really freed you to have a lot of fun elsewhere.
I feel like "once per combat" is more accurate to what you're wanting the tag to mean than "once per long rest (resets in combat)"
@PHJcz_84

I think the main reason is to prevent spamming those feats outside of combat.
Sounds really exciting
This all sounds awesome. Would love to see Psionics though. Always has fascinated me
The Life Tap DC getting harder as you get stronger feels weird; Tying it to your Spell Save DC (A feature that gets better as you level i assume) would make a level 1 warlock casting a MP1 spell easier than a level 10 warlock casting a MP1 spell. Other than this i cannot wait for the kickstarter!
I remember my first bard. He was an Orator who told stories which came to live. We have almost always played with bards using their arts to cast magic. Most often it is through sound, but not always. (We once had a baker Bard who inspired though promises of Good food and such things :P )
Flying bears you say? And I can cast spells while in beast form? Townsperson NPC: "Whats that in the sky shooting fire? Omg is it a dragon?!" Old wiseman NPC: "5e is dead. Its the new druids from DC20. You should really watch out for the fast squirrels that can maul you like bears."
i can't wait to play this system
One of the things I had pointed out to me once while playing back in the 3.5 days is that Oratory was also an option among performance skills, so you can also have a public speaking / rhetoric focused bard - whether you want to make that a politician, a sophist, a prolific educator, Gnome Socrates, the possibilities are really quite open - but I always loved that idea conceptually that hey it's a charisma based class why shouldn't an option for the "art" of choice just be "insanely persuasive". Which also makes me wonder if you could have a writing focused bard who behaves more like a potion user than a typical spellcaster.
Having a druid control the battlefield like that sounds amazing. It makes them stand out so much!
0.7 Hype!!
I imagine the warlock asking their Fiend patron to heal a friend. The patron responds, “ It’s going to cost you.” Warlock: Just do it! Their veins burn across their skin as if filled with fire.
I love the fantasy being created for the Warlock. The idea that it essentially is blood magic but with extra stuff is awesome. So many creators have made blood magic subclasses and it somewhat pigeonholes the caster. Making it part of a base class is so much better.
I am SO excited for this! I've said for years that a distinction without a difference is irksome in RPGs; Sorcerers, Wizards, Clerics, all SHOULD have slightly (or even grossly) different mechanics for how spells are cast and recovered. I'm giddy over here, my guy! EDIT NOTE: I went back and hunted down the VOD: kzread.info/dash/bejne/dXh2r6pynrDaobQ.html At 51 minutes, 30 seconds, I think the core of your notion for mechanical differences to arise because the classes ARE different was revealed.
It's crazy how in sync we are about wizards. I've been annoyed ever since I learned D&D 5e about the pointlessness of half the Wizard Subclasses. It makes so much more sense for them to be BETTER at a given thing and have a magical discount rather than a material discount lol
Youre welcome. Im so glad I-- i mean we made this possible.
Cool approach. Love how each class feels unique. I'm not sure how multiclassing works but I've gotta ask, if the classes are front loaded with most of their juicy bits, does that make multiclassing too powerful?
One thing fun I can see about the druid class here is that it allows you to have the wild form do more than some version of a polymorph spell would be able to.
I like DC20 a lot, but the cleric seems a bit generic. As a GM I really want to be able to design the gods of my world and having that design impact the cleric. Basically, how is a cleric of Zeus different from a cleric of Hades? Hopefully in more ways than a binary holy vs. unholy. Perhaps it will be clearer, when we see the subclasses...
@TheDungeonCoach
Ай бұрын
The subclasses will be HUGE for what you are talking about, so what you mentioned was exactly the challenge the cleric was to create 😅
This game sounds fascinating! I'll definitely be watching how it all progresses. Just out of curiosity, are there plans for more variation in damage types, in spells? It seems very easy in DnD to make a pyromancer, due to the number of fire spells, but cold or lightning focused spell casters, for instance, have very limited options.
This is so cool bc I've always wanted to make a character based on the lightning/electricity thug from Big Trouble in Little China and it looks like I can do that with DC20
Loving how this is sounding and I really want to convert. Unfortunately, my table and I are too attached to our characters, so if there's an easy way to "convert" characters over, you'd encourage a LOT of ppl to cross the pond. Also, Dndbeyond is a big attraction, not for the VTT or anything, but just having the online character generation process makes it really convenient for new (and old) players. I'd definitely support that Kickstarter if it happened.
Snap this is SO much better and so EPIC.

I think you could get a good Shaman vibe by building a Druid and multiclassing with a feature or two from Warlock or Cleric, and a good Witch by multiclassing a Warlock with a feature or two from Wizard, Sorcerer, or Druid (depending on your vision of what a witch should be). They're both not really different enough to make a whole distinct class imo
Yay!!!!
June 4th can't hit soon enough!!!
Thanks for going to bat for Bards!
Personally I really like those massive risk it or lose it moments so I really wanna use the overload as last ditch effort super spell where like, it's guaranteed to to just absolutely decimate, instant kill weaker enemies and can really injure higher enemies, but then you always lose consciousness afterwards and maybe if you fail to hold off the exhaustion for more then once you just immediately pass out losing oit on the rest of the overload
OOH the druid grove thing is cool! What about in a cave situation and growing it along the wall then ceiling to bypass a pit or something?
You know, I added a "high level feat*" to Sorcerers in my system that allows them to Empower a Spell beyond the usual limits. However, it still costs additional Actions, and a basic but interesting interaction with the Initiative Action mechanic causes it to inflict exhaustion if you don't have near the amount of Action Points in order to cast the Spell at that higher level, or Tier (as I call it to reduce new player confusion). Kinda cool how we found a similar effect, despite making entirely different systems. *: High level here just means 5th Level, as that's when I believe a Party should start getting into the real meat of a Campaign instead of just setup.
@The Dungeon Coach FYI: the prefix for darkness is tenebro not umbral.
I like the druid concept. 👍
With the wizard; specifically the mana limit break: they can go beyond, PLUS ULTRA! (It's a school motto from the "My Hero Academia" anime.)
I adore the druid. The tactical opportunities are insane. Domains are going to create so many shenanigans. Never even mind the wildshaping rules being literally everything I wanted them to be in 5e, I'm going grow a little flytrap on the other side of this rock I'm hiding behind and make it spit lightning. Actually do mind about wildshape, I'm doing alla this while chilling upside down on the ceiling.
