How Africa Held Off The Worst Of COVID-19

While the U.S. has reported over 23 million cases and more than 385,000 deaths, the entire continent of Africa has just 3% of the world’s COVID-19 cases and only about 4% of virus-related deaths. Not only does Africa have almost four times the population but it has just a fraction of the health care resources.
Despite the recent surge infections, and the discovery of the new E484K mutation in South Africa, what did the region initially do right?

Yeah. Definitely this is why China and South Korea and Taiwan and New Zeeland as well as Australia and Island, Norway and Finnland managed it quite well. Test. Test. Test. Being fast and tough. Scare resources force people to act immediately. Still on the individual level the virus keeps quite nasty and deadly.

Personal liberty should never be used as an excuse to put others in harm's way. Unfortunately, there are a lot of cultural and economic issues in western countries that lead to bad faith justifications for such short-sighted actions. Over a year later, we are still on lockdown - just. Communities have worked together, those who have more have looked after those who have less - food, medicine, a place to stay. The way we have coped is also down to the strength & spirit of the African people - all cultures, races & religions have pulled together during some very dark days.

Studies indicate proximity to the equator and other coordinates play a factor. In other words, vitamin D synthesis. Darker skinned people have lower active vitamin D and higher tendency to store and not use excess vitamin D stored in the body compared to less melanated people and are better able to synthesize and activate vitamin D from sunlight in warmer climates. I would also expect diet and other environmental factors to play a part in the differences observed. The diet of the average African would include a lot of rice, green vegetables high in folic acid and B vitamins and trace minerals, and food that is not over processed. Food really is medicine

To the Negative comments the reason why we are not counting numbers is because of the low deaths and infection this is coming from someone whose dad and mom is in the frontlines and my whole family was infected by Covid, since Isolation Centres where full we had to stay home by our selves and with the help of my dad and family doctor within a month we all got better, FYI we had severe cases. As for my life style and sun exposure I'm a sit at home couch potato who loves playing Genshin under an AC and my dad and mom drives everywhere so my point is most people when they get infected don't know and end up treating theirselves at home and get better themselves so people stopped going to get tested therefore the government stopped counting. (p.s my family isn't rich or anything and we dont live in high class areas either)😊

You can look at flightradar24.com any hour of any day and see that there just aren't many planes flying over Africa as with other continents.
