How Accurate is the Honda Rebel 300 Fuel Gauge - MPG, Fuel Reserve, Total miles on one tank of gas

After my ride to Fredericksburg, the last 15 or so miles with the fuel gauge flashing on “E”, I thought it would be prudent to verify the accuracy of all my fuel gauge indicators before the next long distance trip.

Thanks for this info.. Just recently bought a rebel 300 after a lot of research on mileage and performance etc. Got the bike mostly because of the price of gas and my F 250 getting about 16 MPG. Couldn't understand how different people were getting such different MPG numbers until I got my bike. When I'm cruising the country backroads at 40 to 50 miles per hour I can easily get up to 80 or 85 MPG. Take the bike on the thruway and maintain 60 and 65 miles per hour and the mileage drops down below 70 MPG. Into the wind or uphill it drops a bit more. My average for the first 300 miles is 74.9 MPG. I love the bike. My Harley days are way behind me at 66 years old. Thanks again for posting all these videos. They helped me in deciding to get this bike. Enjoy the ride.

That 259 gas mileage sounds really bad. My wife’s got about 79 mpg. Your 300 will get you 70 mpg at least and my wife’s 300 got about 83 mpg. I’m heavier, of course, but also wondering if my saddle bags are causing some drag.

I believe that the number displayed when the first bar starts flashing is reserve fuel consumption, not reserve fuel left. It has about 0.58 gallons of reserve toral. When mine starts flashing it starts counting up as the reserve fuel is used (full disclosure, I've only gotten that close to empty once, but was 20 miles from home and watching the numbers closely as they climbed), so to get what is left in the reserve, you need to subtract the number displayed from 0.58.

My 2020 doesn’t have a bar. That’s older versions. I do stand by my original statement on it. However, my wife does have a 2018 with the bar but I haven’t done any checks in her bike.

Awkward. Had 1 mile total on my brand new 2021 300 and now I have half a tank of gas with 7 miles total.

Sounds like you have just enough gas to take it back to the Honda dealership and have them fix it.

@@morose8082 it’s not so much accuracy as consistency. I use the “A” odometer for my day trips, and the “B” odometer for mileage between gas stops. The fuel gauge will give you a general idea where you’re at at a glance, and look at your “B” odometer to see how much farther you can go before you have to stop.
