First, Level 3 holster. I was a police sniper for 17 years and have done tons of shooting thru barriers/glass with rifle rounds. Several factors affect point of aim and point of impact; bullet design (jacketed vs bonded), muzzle distance from glass or target distance from glass and angle of the glass. Best case scenario is the target is very close to the glass and is perpendicular to the target while shooting a bonded round. Jacketed rounds will separate and you'll see 2 impacts. Point of aim and point of impact are very close with bonded rounds. With the rifle you never want to shoot thru the windshield while seated in a car, the greatest deviation from impact and aim. Videos showing actual police shooting thru the windshield you'll notice the officer puts the barrel thru the windshield after making the hole.

I've seen many police body cam videos with officers shooting through their cruiser window and wondered if that's how they're trained to do it or if it's left as a last resort. Is it up to the officer's discretion? I've also noticed them try to shoot through initial hole they make or in the case of a rifle do as you say and jam the barrel through the newly made gunport. Thanks for your years of service sir!

That's a good lesson, didn't realize how ballistics work... I was in the army of my country for 7 years, but I served as a truck driver, and I was always carrying just a CZ75 pistol. Instructors said that if you have to go into a battle field to retrieve some boys under fire, you must be ready to hand the pistol and shoot while driving, and if I was co-pilot I have to mount and shoot an MG42 from the roof of the truck. But, at least me, I was never introduced to ballistics, like infantry or artillery companies or regiments in my country's army. All my respects to you Sir!

Isn't going to do shit at the range you are shooting as a police sniper. Aim a little low at the most. Curious were you working in a team. Using Semi and Bolt. As a team you can have one break glass and do a flow up. By self with semi you shoot twice. It is amazing they make it movies like something special. Now shooting a pistol out of someone's hand is a little more complex.

Depends on the bullet. The 9 he was using had less of an issue due to both bullet shape and speed. It was slow, heavy, and round enough not to deflect as dramatically. The .223 was too light, fast, and has too much of a Spitzer point. Because of all three, some of the issue was deflection, and even more due to fracturing and/or keyholing of the round as its too fast and light. The .308 has much more mass, but still suffers from similar issues as the .223.

Angle of the glass affects it, the more tilt the greater the deviation. Also bullet design plays a big part; jacketed vs bonded rounds.

Your shooting position behind the glass is mostly like being behind the whole car. The behind the glass we practiced was from the actual driver's seat. The barrel was positioned as close to the glass without touching it, to avoid causing a malfunction, and first shot would be slightly deflected - and might even separate from the jacket while the core still hit the target, but subsequent shots through the same hole, which became bigger with each shot fired, were unaffected.

Even stationary objects have momentum, striking at an angle will make a difference as well. On July 28th, 1945, a B-25 hit the Empire St bld. Victims inside stated 'We had trouble keeping our legs under us, as the building swung like a pendulum for about thirty seconds.' Slow heavy rounds will be less affected, while faster velocities increase the relative momentum of the glass. Ref Myth Buster, shooting into water.

Possibly put chicken wire or something strong with holes between the canvas and the paint. Back the canvas with steel. Put 7 or 8 different colors of spray paint in a circle with a grenade in the middle or shoot the cans. You may create some wild art. I'll be watching. Love your stuff.

Our local junkyard back when I was growing up set aside 2 rows of cars that we were allowed to shoot up , these were cars that were going to be crushed , I have had 9mm bounce off of a windshield 2 times from around 30 feet away over a few years , my friends laughed at me thinking that I had missed , you could see a copper mark where they had hit and then ricker-shade off , this was ball ammo nothing fancy . This was 2 rounds out of thousands on newer cars the rounds would go straight through the car from side to side , through the seats , doors , glass , and the seat if the windows were rolled down . We did this all of the time that and blasting trees with a 12-gauge . Most of the children all had .22 LR rifles and shotguns , back then it was no big deal to walk through the neighborhood while doing the open carry thing , older cars were a lot tougher ( thicker metal ) real life is nothing like what they show on the TV , your not hiding behind a car door even on the older cars , the rounds on the older ones had a 50 / 50 chance of going straight through on the newer ones most ( over 90% ) would pass through like the doors were made out of cardboard 😂

Hey Mr. Edwin, me and this other guy have been having a debate about the nature of the .50 BMG. He argues that it's the best at penetrating power. I argue that it's the best at brute-force smashing, and some other rounds like the .408 Cheytac, .22-250 and .22 Swift have the potential to beat its penetration (of course they'll never match its pure destructive power; that's just a mathematical fact.) Could you, by any chance, shoot a bunch of hard stuff with .50 BMG, .408 Cheytac, .22-250 and .22 Swift (and whatever else you think appropriate) to settle this debate? See if any of these smaller, pointier, _faster_ rounds might be able to penetrate something the .50 BMG smahses, but can't quite get through?

I'm not sure why you used FMJ in the pistol when most people are going to carry defensive hollow point rounds which would have yielded a much different result. Probably similar to the shotgun rounds. In addition you could have tested out G9 defense ammo which is supposed to have the safer penetration of a hollow point, but will maintain a straight trajectory through a windshield.
