It depends on the state and the city. Amsterdam on a night out, will be a bit slutty, in comparison to conservative states in Murica. Then again, Florida on a hot day or Miami, will be véry slutty in comparison to Naarden Bussum. In general, it's too cold to wear skimpy clothes. But I can imagine she's seen some enthousiastic people on the (one and only) day of summer here. And I bet that, if there was enough sun, people would wear hotpants and a top and that's it. I mean, sunbathing topless isn't considered normal in the USA and it is here.

As I’m learning Dutch, I’ve been watching as many Dutch films as I’m able to find - which surprisingly and unfortunately is pretty limited (what I can find in the US but also generally from my research). I’ve just watched “Just Say Yes” and it was super jarring to see a lead actress in an actual film with a BBL and tons of facial filler. You see that everywhere in Hollywood and low brow/trashy/reality TV, but never in actual films. I wonder how accurate the representation of Dutch women is in that movie? Seems very different than what is described in the comments and this KZread video

I’m an American who’s lived in Europe (Stockholm, Sweden) for 10 years now and I think Dutch women are by far the most beautiful and stylish in Europe! I go to the Netherlands several times per year and have many friends there and I’m always impressed with their unique clothing and stylish hair. Swedish women are obsessed with only buying hipster clothing brands and wanting to look exactly like everyone else whereas the Dutch are more individualistic (and that’s much more attractive in my opinion).

What? My husband, English, just to emphasize further difference would not agree fully with that. Dutch ladies can be stylish but that is so random. To see Dutch woman having make up done is a mostly magic or they are not native Dutch. Style here is very simple. Leather jacket, any type of Jean's, chinos, leggings will do and boots, never cleaned up and polished. And bag. Or MK or any other similar. Never seen women in suit, high heels. But if you consider the philosophy here just don't stick out. It's pretty natural.

It really depends on the person. I have seen really fashion oriented women, casual simple women, and also really unique, cute, and flashy on their own way. The "doe normaal" is STRONG on this topic though. What they say, that there is a major part that just "blend in" with how they dress and style themselves is true. But also there is something that i really appreciated when i was there, and it's that no matter how i dressed i didin't feel judged or observed at all. Everyone minds their own business, or at least don't show it haha. I can't wait to be back.

We see splitting the bill as equality. If I am on a date with a girl, I will feel uncomfortable if she wants to pay the entire bill. To me, it seems like she thinks that I cannot pay for myself. We favour social equality and directness; so, it would be disrespectful to not even ask for splitting the bill. Also, about being cheapskates, The Netherlands is actually very generous! We love to share our knowledge, our skills and even our money with everyone who needs it. The Netherlands is one of the biggest donators to development programs in the world. We spend MORE money on development projects than China, The United States and Japan all together and…. we don’t ask anything in return! It may look stupid in your eyes (go see an optician), but that’s just the way we are. Dutch people believe that they have a responsibility to share our skills, knowledge and wealth with people who need it.

In China people will look down on you if you are a construction worker, or even delivery person. This includes not wanting to look poor. Chinese people would even spend all their money just to buy something to not look poor. I rarely encounter that in the Netherlands.

Just an ordinary opinion from dutch folks 🙃 I am actually a girl from the Netherlands and I travel much through the Netherlands so I actually have friends all around and well.. i get that most of these things that are said are they’re look on “dutch girls” but I just could not disagree more when listening to them.. like I did find the part where they where talking about our freedom and own choices of what we wanted to be very precise on what is actually very common here, But when they were talking about that we as “woman in general” feel less insecure about ourselves and or don’t really care about how we dress Really irrelevant, many woman and or girls are of course sometimes insecure about themselves, and yes sometimes we say “F it” ya know but most of the time it’s just a mask to put on to look stronger.. I actually did discuss these story’s with more of my family and friends but most of us agree that, : yes we like to wear what is comfortable and or what feels right but it doesn’t have to mean that that’s“not stylish “ we are all different yet very the same..as one of my friends said to me: “it is many times talk like this that actually sometimes are the cause of some girls thinking they need to change because you are revering to “Girls” or well said people who are under the age of 18, these girls are most of the time really insecure about themselves (wow even In the Netherlands?? YES) and just want to get to adulthood without people shaming they’re body’s or they’re dressing style and many teenage girls are very insecure about they’re skin so yea it’s sometimes kinda rude to point out the fact “the Girls rarely wear make-up” wich btw is not always true if you are actually revering to girls under 18 here than I can say that many normal school girls wear makeup”. I am really not attacking these people but some things just did not click for me like.. We are all woman and we all know how hard it is to be judged so much on our appearance, we don’t just take what falls out of our closet of course not it falls out off the closet because we are just desperate to find that one thing in there that we needed to wear on this specific day. You don’t have to agree with me and all these people that I discussed this with whoem (Most) of them are all originally from The Netherlands Sincerely from.. Just a girl from The Netherlands ✨ Hope you’re having a great day 🌷

Unless our women wear shirts with mold on their shoulders and jeans covered with mud, I think they're fine. Taking care of yourself is perceived differently in every country and therefore has a different meaning. Dutch women don't walk on high heels very frequently, but have you ever tried walking in high heels over our streets? Made of cobblestone? Do you want our women to have broken ankles? Also, wearing a tight dress with high heels just isn’t comfortable. Many Dutch women are cycling to work or to the station, nobody got time for that other shit. We like being comfortable, men and women alike, so jeans and sneakers are a big thing in The Netherlands. And when it comes to make-up, we like it natural. Just use your best features and enhance them just a little bit. Nothing more needed. Even better, go without make-up! Also, we favour social equality and directness. Don't expect Dutch men to hold the door open for you, because last time we checked, you had two functioning hands to do it yourself.

And also, randomly, if she's *right* behind you and you open a door. But holding it open as a courtesy, every _damn_ time would be exhausting. As a woman, I appreciate it every now and then. Dutch women do appreciate holding the door and taking their coats, although its less of a necessity. In my relationship, my girlfriend and i are equal, although i insist to carry the heavier stuff, because its more practical... Doesn't mean she doesn't carry stuff at all. Dutch women do not like restrictions, inequality and they do like to be most independant. Even in household chores, we both do things we're best at. Washing is divided into seperate parts, she divides the clothes and operates the machine, whilst i hang it up, fold it and put it back in all clausets. (except for hers, she has her own ways of putting the clothes back) Practical and pretty is what girls commonly like, in the Netherlands.

I'm Dutch and I do stand out A LOT here fashion wise, seeing as I've adopted a modern variant of the 40s and 50s fashion (New Look/Dior). Which is quite a stretch from the more casual jeans and top- style most women wear. Which - the American guy was part right - also is a practical choice lots of times. But according to most of the people in my neighbourhood I'm definitely different with my heels (I'm only 1.58m though😆), a different dress or skirt every day and even hats, petticoats and gloves. I love it and it makes me feel *me* the most. I can get nasty comments about it, but also plenty compliments. Living in a poorer suburb of Haarlem it's all jeans and simple jackets here. In the centre you certainly see different styles: preppy, alternative, 70s inspired, business chic or very Instagram-y. I however do think that these people have it all wrong to say Dutch girls or women wear whatever falls out of their closet. No freaking clue who they meet, but in my 43 years in this country I've maybe met only 1 person like that and it always had a reason (self esteem issues or they have a job that asks for very simple practical stuff). If we weren't into fashion then fashion magazines and shows wouldn't do so well here. Compared to Italy and perhaps France (but also the big cities there) we could do much better, but I've travelled and Dutch women definitely take care of themselves in comparison. I have both an academic and a creative background and lived in Utrecht and parts of Noord-Holland : the type they describe IS here, but you can't say it's THE Dutch girl. And thank heavens we don't do the hysterical- full- makeup designer clothing US highschool chick style! Speaking of the US: that lady saying we're often obese compared to her nation...🤣🤣🤣🤣. FFS... is she for real?! The average Dutch clothing size for women - according to the latest numbers I read in 2019, so it could be slightly altered now - is a EU40, which is a size 10US. I believe the average US size for women/girls is a 16! And that's even on a tinier woman height wise. Not to mention the truly morbid obese ones of which they also have a much larger relative %.

Yeah, have dutch women wear heels, they'll bump their heads everywhere. Also, weather here doesn't allow for a lot of clothing options. In the little bit of summer we do have most women do put in more effort i think. A lot more collor and personal identity is put into how they look. For the rest it is just jeans and coats cause the weather sucks.

I'm from the Netherlands and come from Limburg, which is a bit more conservative. But still, in my youth I had many girlfriends and most of them did the first step instead of me. I was a bit slow (or shy)....That's how Dutch women were when i was young... not waiting for the guy...

It hasn't changed much. I think men are even more terrified now, to make the first move, as even winking at a woman could be considered sexual harrasment nowadays. Which is complete rubbish. On topic: truly hope chivalry isn't completely dead. If a man opens the door for you, it's just nice. Doesn't make anyone less independent.

It's absolutely true, we prefer to dress on the practical side. Looks and style aren't focused on that much. Also there seems to be an unwritten rule that you have to chop off your hair after a certain age. I absolutely don't get why so many women do that.

Man nothing beats a dutch women. Their confidence and attidude is so damn amazing. The girls actually do take their time to look good, people here saying they don't is bullshit. Sure they wear more casual cause of the practically of being here, but doesn't mean they don't look good in them. A dutch women always looks good regardless of the weather. Them being so independent adds another flavour to it. Prolly 1 of the best type of girls you can find anywhere.

I think they're trying to make themselves feel better by saying that Dutch girls are "more confident". Thats a personal thing. And about "they wear too short dresses" that's a choice of someone. I mean these arguments are all so personal
