Wow you are a legend!! I have the error f138 and have dismantled it completely, checked the float switch which is bone dry. I have disconnected and reconnected it thinking it may have come loose and gives the fault but everything with it is ok. I haven't tested it as I'm not sure how. Also what else could be causing this f138 issue. I have spoke to Miele and the said the machine may need a reset. How do I go about doing that? Anything else I can do to sort this fault code out. I have checked the whole machine from every direction for Leask and absolutely nothing. Any help would be much appreciated. Thank you and God bless you and your family...love your in-depth videos...keep it up!

I repaired my parents 2003 model Miele last year. It needed a new electromagnetic door lock. The machine was still working strangely but just wasn’t locking the door shut. I contacted Miele they found the part and had it delivered to me and it was only £76 which i think was quite reasonable. Got the rubber door seal out the way and managed to get my hand in the side, unscrewed it and pulled the old interlock out; connected up the new one and got it all back working in 15 minutes. That was definitely a worthwhile repair..even if the machine only lasts for another couple of years. I personally have one of the latest Miele W1 models. I’m not confident it will reach the age of my parents one but compared to most other offerings out there they still overall feel of a great quality.

The machines are very well built. The only problem I have is the prices of the parts I would not call £76 for a door lock cheap in anyway, but I would say it was well worth keeping going as they are good machines

Thank you very much for putting together really good videos. You do a fantastic job of explaining the nuances of appliances. Keep up the good work. I live in the US,but most of what you talk about still applies. You were absolutely correct and it would be nice if they didn’t build these machines to be obsolete in 5 to 10 years.

brilliant and very clear video Paul that has helped me to understand how my Miele W3740 works, but unfortunately I have still not been able to get my mine working yet. It throws up an F53 error but the brushes were fine (though I replaced them anyway) and by activating the door lock and operating the machine on spin I was able to see that power was getting to the brushes and through the stator windings. A so called engineer diagnosed a faulty Tacho unit, which I replaced but this also did not cure the problem - and why should it! if the motor does not spin the the tacho will not work anyway! I have now removed the motor and got a multimeter to test the continuity etc. Will report back later.

Well explained! Yes, it is most awful when parts cannot be replaced or are extremely expensive. The other day I saw a Beko machine with a 10 year guarantee label, dumped in a truck. The machine was definitely a new one, because it had a touch screen, so I am sure the guarantee was not over yet! I could not inspect the machine, but I am almost sure it was a failure within the drum assembly, because nowadays the spider only seems to last a couple of years, and at the same time the tub is sealed as you said in the video. In fact, I am aware that 2 of my 3 machines are sealed, and that the only 3 brands available in Malta with a tub that is not sealed are Vestel, Haier and Miele, and I dislike both, Vestel for having very long programmes, and Haier and Miele for being overpriced.

We, as a species have to become more responsible with all resources and one of the biggest problems are the multinational companies that only care about consumption. There is nothing wrong with profit, but they seem to want to make it just at the expense of our resources. I think it is only a period of time before the consumers are fully aware of this. The machine I was working on was a well thought of well designed machine apart from a couple of small faults, but then to go and charge an unaffordable rate for the consumer to have the confidence to try and repair it

Good clear explanation, thank you. How silly to make it in principle repairable but so expensive parts-wise that it might as well be a throw-away Bush or Curry's own-brand. I dare say the bearing and spider are better quality than most (?), thus last longer, but it's unacceptable that these two parts (+ seals) can't be had for less than £100 total. I agree that even without the labour cost, over £200 for these parts would put virtually all off repairing a several yr-old Miele when you know that having spent that another expensive component could soon fail. 'Right to Repair' should mean reasonably-priced parts as well as good design and parts availability.

thank you for making this video . washing machines and other consumer machines have nearly all obsolescence built in. as a miele owner i tought i paid the extra price to avoid that. , recently i had to repair the program selector button , because i broke the knob when a heavy piece fell on it. i coulnd't find a replacement part except the whole control board . When finally i found one on ebay for a fifth of the price (several hundred of euros) i tried to disassemble and omg this was not so easy to do. but at the end the opto-coulpler was only clipped on the board. that's funny that spare part are sold with cuted wires like you do . hopefully my 15 years old miele lasts more than the average machine.

I try to point people in the right direction of what not to purchase, but I have no intention really of trying to influence people to buy. XY or z I have done a few review videos, but until the manufacturer starts producing something that is it not only a good machine that is repairable in the future at an affordable price. there pretty much all the same now too much built-in obsolescence

Very informative video, thanks a lot! Once more I come to the conclusion that's simply not worth buying a Miele, if you can get a reasonable washing machine for half the price. The following formula applies: Purchase price/spare parts costs = device lifespan And, sadly enough: it's constant. In my case I bouhgt a Bauknecht washing machine back in 2020 and since that time I only had to replace the motor brushes after 17 years of operation (4 person household) and the pump. Every few years I opened the machine and cleaned the hoses, but that was it. In german there is a saying that says "Bauknecht baut schlecht" ("Bauknecht builds poorly") but after nearly 6000 washing cycles (girls are washing their clothes every couple of minutes 😀) I would say the bang-for-bucks is more than OK. Nevertheless the motor bearing is going cactus and I have to get a new machine; I think it will be a Samsung this time - the wifi- function sounds nice to me 🤓. Looking forward to seeing more of your videos!

Great video, very informative! I really enjoyed watching and learning new stuff about appliances.. i guess i get old lol. I have one question though, are there any manufacturers that dont seal there drums? Or is everyone of them making it uneconomically and difficult to repair the bearings and spider? I heard Ebac might be a consideration but i'm from germany and i cant find these machnines for sale anywhere where i live. EDIT: If somebody is also interrested- I did a bit of research and found out that LG for example does still make outer drums that are connected via bolts and rubber seal. To be safe I would still recommend aksing your dealer and/or the manufacturer if the machine you are considering has a non welded drum.

Cheers buddy I did look at Miele because they were well built but people I knew all say what you say the repair cost ........ Just better to replace,so if it's replacement just best to get a good brand at better value. I had a Asko ran 15 yrs till the board went to old to get a replacement that thing wash perfect had a good reputation but that was a machine before they moved to Slovakia . I bought another machine 8kg one what a disaster the model had like 2* the reviews were the same and the issue I had was what the reviews were saying Mum has a AEG she's very happy with it quiet only a few years old i might look at that Asko did replace the machine under warranty lucky I had extended factory warranty . I am still happy with asko but that model was a nightmare for customers but I'm sure for asko . I have had to replace the pump because of hair pins but the machine is good it's 8yrs + tx for the breakdown on the Miele
