For 50 years I played with planes in various states of tune. When Leonard Lee started providing information and selling tools and accessories, I was able to realize a massive improvement in my old hand me downs. Then I bought the "Jackrabbet plane" by Veritas. So this is how a plane should work! The antique Stanley /Bailies have earned their rest, so I dust them off from time to time, but at the bench there is a Veritas in hand or close to hand!

I'm nowhere near as experienced as you but I've restored and used a handful of Stanley's, picked up a Veritas dovetail saw and was so impressed I ordered a Veritas jack plane and fell in love. Now I'm selling my older tools to complete my Veritas collection 😄
I have four Veritas planes so far. Made in Canada. No shipping or duties. High quality, beautiful to own and excited to use them. I’ll spend my good earned money on that.
Would really like to see a longer version of this, which takes its time. Without all the quick edits, and without the music. Just something for people who don't suffer from ADD.

Seriously. The rapid cuts, and whooshing is just not appropriate for the audience that would be looking to spend $400 on a big, high quality, bench plane, or learn how it's made. Using a bench plane is generally a slower-paced, relaxed form of woodworking. My eleven year old is not the audience here. :)

Maybe. With all the cuts made to the side... may warp easily over time.
I am also very happy that the range of tools are also available in Australia
I design electronics, and can relate to the "everything you design on a computer, whether it's a cruise ship or a pen, is the same size on the screen". I have tricked myself numerous times by becoming "size blind" after working on a miniaturized design for too long.
Veritas is a great company. Not too many around.
This is the new stanley! Thanks for making quality products! I have a few veritas saws and the wooden spokeshave kit I made.

The thought of sending my money north of the border to those dang Canadians, makes me feel sick so my stomach but that plane is amazing and I might have to get over it.

Wow great video.
Great video! Carpentry rocks :)
Lie-Nielsen made the first LA No. 7(71/2),but Veritas made the first one with a movable toe. This makes the original LN great for rough work,the low centers of gravitys are both a pleasure to work.
WOW !!!
I’ve got a Veritas rabbet skew plane for sale used twice
I made one of these in metal shop.
I have a lot of Veritas tools and they are ALL very high quality.BUT very reasonably priced compared to other premium manufacturers. Believe me VERITAS ARE PREMIUM.

Agreed. After doing the math, they are actually cheap. Although that's not what you see/think on the cash register on check out
I have a lot of their tools and compared to ANY other premier tool maker they are EXCELLENT value and considerably cheaper even though higher quality in my opinion.

Start with the "jack of all trades" the low angle jack. Its designed to do the job of several different planes depending on the angle of the blade used. And depending on your budget the Stanley will get you by just fine www.amazon.com/Stanley-12-137-No-62-Angle-Plane/dp/B002B56CUY

Dont wast your money on this thing I own one and I use my Stanley's more! Go on ebay get a stanley restore it you will appreciate it more when you are Intimate with all the parts! Ill sell you mine I regret buying it All of Veritas stuff is just well over priced and you dont get better quality for what you pay Plus its low angle you get a much better finish with a smoothing plane with a iron at 45 This thing is for the dumb ass who has to much money! Im a moron for buying it had money to waste Should have wasted it on drugs!

Como obtener un cepillo de ese estilo
As the body parts are of cast material (I'm guessing cast iron?), i can't help but wonder, why they use cooling lubricant for the machining. Cast iron is known for lubricating itself cause of the graphite. I wouldn't use cast Aluminium for such a tool. Dont get the lubricating part though.
@holzheld
8 жыл бұрын
Maybe for cooling? Makes the milling tools last longer, I guess.
@brandonfedorick8106
8 жыл бұрын
A lot of the time flood coolant is actually used just to clear the chips so they aren't being recut by the cutting tool. Blasting with compressed air can do the same thing but most CNC machines are already setup from the factory for flood coolant.
@reiniertl

It also helps keep the piece cool to prevent warping, quite useful for long parts that must have a consistent flatness.
@738polarbear

ANY metal is easier to a chine when lubricated plus this us NOT ordinary cast iron it is ductile. It is stronger .and will dull the milling tools quicker without lubrication.
Windows XP FTW
The rear handle looks lke a miss match, is there a reason for this ?.

Didn't realize Vertias made "professional" tools. Do they make an amateur line as well? lmfao The cost has no bearing on weather a tool is for a professional or not. many top craftmens in the world USE OLD refurbished stanley bailys they bought on the cheap at tool swaps and yard sales. I only have 2 veritas and a shit load of stanleys. Cant say one is better than the other and I still have the original blades in the stanleys where the veritas have the new tool steel blades. They are a bitch to sharpen and in the big picture do not hold a edge that much longer than the old stanley blades. So i guess they are no more professional than a $30 stanley thats 50-60 yr old.

I disagree, the Veritas is jewelry.
Veritas makes perfectly wonderful planes and chisels. But (yes there is a Video Production Quality but), the Intrusive Distracting Frenetic Repetitive Intrusive Distracting Frenetic Repetitive Autism-inducing Pseudo-music is Obnoxious and unacceptable...not to mention Unprofessional. Good Bye.
Really bad quality CMM for checking high Quality parts Why are you using a 35 micron CMM when there are hundreds of 4 micron CMM out there with out the human error? And optical comparator are a 70's tool. You really should invest in an fully optical, and scanning CMM if you really want high quality.
