Thank you for the great video showing internal details on how a refrigerator thermostat works

I found out how to adjust the thermostat’s temperature range. There is an access hole for the small screw you found in the spring; the hole is just above the knob shaft. Turning the screw clockwise raises the temperature range, and turning it counter clockwise lowers the temperature range. On mine, a full turn seems to adjust about 5F or 3C (if my math is correct), but it does not seem to be a very precise adjustment. Thank you so much for making this video! We have a very old "backup" refrigerator we rarely plug in (only use it a few times a year for big parties and such), but today the thermostat went bad - would not shut off at all. It looks to be the same thermostat you have. According to Sears, parts for our unit are no longer available, and we need it working TODAY for a party tomorrow. Without your video, I would never have been able to fix the thermostat, and my wife would be VERY unhappy! You saved our Thanksgiving dinner, and my sanity.

Why these are $70 to replace is questionable seeing how simple they are. does the knob turn the adjuster screw? So its just an off/on switch....I though there was something more to them like varying the working voltage to the pump or something....Thank you.

there are different types of thermostats. This type relies on the thermal expansion of gases. hence a pressure switch.
