How A Quiet Place Is Slowly Destroying Its Legacy

Ойын-сауық

When it first debuted, A Quiet Place shocked audiences not only with it's mostly silent audio, but the world it created felt familiar and unique at the same time. First time director John Krasinski caught lightning in a bottle with the first A Quiet Place movie, so naturally a sequel was fast tracked, and when A Quiet Place 2 dominated the box office, it was only a matter of time before it got the prequel treatment with A Quiet Place Day One. The only question is, are franchises doing them selves a disservice by over saturating their own market with sequels and prequels?

Horror works as part of the unknown. The more we know, the less interesting it gets. With very few exceptions, such as Aliens which completely changes tone and style whilst keeping the Xenomorphs secretive, turning horror into franchises turns them into diluted shadows of their former self.

@@rafresendenrafresenden.1644 The sequel to the Jean Claude Van Damme movie Kickboxer kind of ruined the first movie for me because the main villain used a gun to kill the main characters from the first movie. How "happy" can an ending to a movie be if you know that "canon" will cause the main heroes to all get machine gunned within a few weeks after the film? I also had a problem with THE SCORPION KING by Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson because the canon of the Mummy films establishes that he turns into a terrifying monster. And if you decide that the sequel is not canon then the original is still great but the sequel becomes pointless.

@@Magdalena8008sFor what it's worth, someone did mention that for them a bad sequel can ruin the original-- they said liking the original will be disappointing because it'll make them want to watch the sequels even though they know the sequels are bad. When a good movie ends and there are no sequels, no one will be itching for more. But if there are sequels, some people will feel compelled to keep watching. I personally can isolate every movie but that's only because I always expect sequels to be disappointing. But for some viewers, if the sequels are disappointing it could actually detract from the enjoyment of the original film. That was an interesting perspective someone shared and I found it insightful.

The first movie shows us how a family dealt with it (though not on day one until the sequel). Now Day One is showing us how people in one of the biggest loudest city handle it. Regan had made it to the radio station and her mother had saved her brother. But then what? Give me something to wrap it up have the humans beat these stupid monsters and lets call it a day. THEN if you want to do a day one prequel in a city, fine. Could be a fun spin off. Just seems out of order and gives the kids more time to grow up and look older. At this point i'd say they need to do a time jump if they come back with a third film to the original story.

I think the ending of the first one is so powerful, you feel for the family, you root for them, and then the second has this sort of invincible thing, where it seems impossible that they would survive but through luck they do. If they really wanted to make a second movie, I think they should've done the prequel thing with the family, and not a sequel. I really hope this third installment will be good. I like action, horror, sci fi, etc and I think what may help this new movie work over the second one was something this video points out. He mentions that the second felt like it was stuck between the first movies more family oriented story and it trying to get into more action. it felt stalled between two ideas. What this one has is an entirely new cast, so as long as they give us a reason to want these characters to live and give us something new then I think it will do well. I always like the idea of horror movies expanding into its universe when done well like what marvel did during its first couple of phases. I like the idea of knowing how others survived something and especially in a city. Its just that usually these franchises aren't written well but I really want to be optimistic lol. All I know is I like horror, action/horror, etc so Ill still probably enjoy it given that Lupita can do no wrong in my eyes with whatever she's given.

It's weird to make a sequel that's like "Ok, here are all your favorite characters back to continue their adventure! Oh, but if you don't like it just pretend it's not the same adventure!" LOL canon is canon. Of course the sequel affects the original. That's what it's supposed to do.

The second movie was great though. Well-acted and didn't reveal too much information to us. And the world/setting is interesting enough for me to be curious about it's origins. I'm personally excited for the prequel and am actually hoping they release *another* movie after this that goes back to the original family.

I like the first movie but I just can't really suspend my disbelief that the world fell to blind melee aliens that you can still kill in 35 million different ways. The scale should've been more like the Mist, where it's a town or a single city that's fallen to these creatures, cut off from the rest of the world somehow.

Dairy milking refers to the practice of raising cows to produce milk for human consumption.Separation of mothers and calves: Cows naturally form strong bonds with their calves. In dairy farms, calves are separated from their mothers shortly after birth so the milk meant for the calf can be collected for human consumption. * Artificially increased milk production: Cows are bred to produce much more milk than they would naturally for their calves. milk is meant for their calves, not humans.

The _Purge_ Universe only went where the audience led it. The first film was criticized for setting itself with in the McMansion of a wealthy white family, avoiding showing the actual Purge Night the movie was centered on and making its message about classism an afterthought. The future movies, well-reviewed or not, show the carnage, focus on the victims, and answer questions about the implementation of the event.

I was taken with the novelty of the movie using so much silence that it could also make attending audiences equally as quiet (quite the change from the phone using, food munching, whisper/talkers in most movies). But like 3D, the novelty is not enough when you apply some logic scrutiny to how some things play out. I'll let the scientistic and writers hash those points. It was good, it's good enough for me, but not great anymore IF they want a bombastic prequel, makes sense.

The problem with A Quiet Place 2 we thought we were getting Day 1 we had only seen the trailers showing us Day 1 and that was the marketing for a Quiet Place 2. Day One is still a great idea and a great movie. Also I understand by not making a sequel and all that but this movie made a lot of money so it’s going to get one. They would be stupid not to make one and A Quiet Place Day One is needed that’s the movie 99% of the people asked for. Yes we wanted to know and The First Purge that came out 2018 was the best one so I mean I get it but it works

I wasn't too big on the second A Quiet Place movie and the upcoming prequel... seems fine, I guess. Although, a friend of mine gave me an interesting perspective. His eleven-year-old son enjoys horror movies, but obviously, he doesn't get to watch rated R movies. So, movies like A Quiet Place (rated PG-13) are huge for him because it's a new horror movie that he can actually watch.

As much as I dislike the concept of good movies ending up into rotten franchises, Day One is actually something I'm really interested in seeing, because, the franchise here is doing something most horror/post-apocalyptic media don't do -- it sets the movie right at the start of the apocalypse, so you can see how civilization reacts and falls to the cataclysm in real time. Most other franchises chose the route of "let's just have a little exposition or flashback of the past while the main show/movie itself takes place years after the apocalypse and follows a stereotypical group of survivors in a lonely world."

I’ve loved everything the quiet place has done so far so if they keep this quality up idc how many they make I’ll keep watching them. The great things about movies are you don’t have to watch them and you can ignore and forget the bad ones. So no I don’t think bad sequels/prequels ruin great original movies the concept has always been ridiculous to me. I can understand loving a movie and not wanting to see something negative or bad associated with it but the only thing that can ruin a movie is if say 25 years later they re-edited it into something you don’t like then only release that version of it from then on and all the original releases are destroyed/lost or the format isn’t playable on modern devices or something but how often does that happen in the modern day lol that’s like losing a license to print money, especially if the movie was a hit

I just have to say that I saw a trailer for “the first quiet place “ or whatever tf they’re calling it and had to laugh out loud that the tactic they were going with was the director sitting in front of the character and “reassuring” us that this one is different and new . Like dude imagine the trailer for the movie being someone selling you the movie bc you already know it’s shit 😅

If a sequel ruins a movie for you, that’s more a matter of personal fragility than it is the movies problem. And if a sequel sucked I could understand that feeling a little more, but Part 2 was a phenomenal sequel. At this point I think people just want to bitch for the sake of bitching.
