How a lonely kid found kinship in the Rainbow Flag | UNIQLO ARTSPEAKS

We take a closer look at the history of Gilbert Baker’s original design of the "Rainbow Flag," and how it stands as an enduring symbol of hope. "One of the things that you can read from the flag is that it's from nature, and there's nothing unnatural about being queer," MoMA educator George Benson explains. "I always say to people that queer history is as old as human history because we've never not been here. And when you're feeling quite isolated and alone, this flag is a beacon."

I LOVE this. I had no idea there was such thought out, meaningful reasons behind the colors. Thanks for educating me.

Thank you George for enlightening the history of the creation of this flag, the meaning of the colours and sharing your own personal story. Let's pray for more love and support in the future than there has been.

Explained very well, iconic now, but first time I've heard the history, all people deserve dignity.

This is such a delightful & insightful video! I loved learning about the history of the flag because I think the more I know, the more help and understanding I can give to others. How a flag can make someone feel seen is absolutely beautiful. Please share more videos like this!

I was friends with Gilbert long before the flag. We had lost track of each other over the years as friends sometimes do. A while back I tried looking him up and discovered he had passed away. He was a warm kind, loving person. I'm sad we never had the chance to reconnect.

Thank you for recognizing the importance of the original flag and also how it is a beacon of hope for those who are fearful and alone. The original flag may morph and change over time to include more messages and more people but it's power still keeps our heads above water.

I remember the original flag so well and never knew why the 2 colours were dropped. Too bad, as that flag is beautiful But we can still have sex and magic anyway.

Why is it allowed too response this Posting? I know the colors, I know that Community. Is it necessary to go with my old dog only around the house, only for my lost son? Or is it necessary to too say much more? I think each person could made his own way. And if there are many vulnerable persons or injured victims it will be possibel too help them. I mean it is not my way of friendships, but it is okay. Ruth St. will be very enjoyed about this Parade. I wish her much love and good luck. And also her youngest son. Also Soma which she teached french. But I will never talk about this, My son has an option to live. Thats enough for me! (Not the kurier newspaper wth the babler Interview, today in Austria?)

-> Maybe We're The 1st Spiritist* Pop-Metal Or Rock Band In This World 🤔 -> ❤ But Don't Pay Much Attention To Our Neanderthal English, Ha Ha Ha *NOTE: Spiritist is who professes Spiritism, the Gospel continuation. It has began with the books by Allan Kardec and continued in the books by Francisco C. Xavier, the greatest and more important medium/prophet of spirits of the last centuries.

I personally prefer the six-colors flag. I don't like the eight-colors flag simply because there are too many colors. And I don't like the so called "progressive" pride flag, because there are too much colors, too much shapes and because accepting the progressive pride flag as the new standard pride flag would practically make the statement that people of color and trans people and intersex people were "not included" in the eight or six color flag, which is not true in my opinion. In the end the flag is only a symbol for the whole community including people of all minority sexual orientations, people of all minority gender identities, people of all gender minorities and people of the trans minority. Or in short: A symbol for the queer community. Harvey Milk intended the flag to be only this symbol ("We need a symbol"). And now the symbol gets artificially changed, inflated with colors and shapes, e. g. in the so called "progressive" pride flag, which is simply not necessary. I think it should stay the six-colors-flag forever as symbol for the queer minority. Sometimes keeping it simple is better.

the progressive flag was more a response to the exclusion of trans and non white people that happens too often. i agree on your points about design however.
