I qualified for HOMESTEAD ACT due to being a 100% disabled service-connected veteran. After my house burned I bought a camper while rebuild. Morrow County started charging me more, so I checked with the county Auditor. I asked why did you take away my HOMESTEAD ACT? "Because your house burned. You don't have a house." Why did you DOUBLE my property value? "Because you made improvements to your house." The federal definition of HOMESTEAD is any piece of land you use your permanent address (USC Title-18). Auditor said campers don't count anymore. How can local jurisdictions supercede federal law? Appears to violate section 242 (depriving... under color of law). Also what about their so-called logic. Morrow County blames State of Ohio, but the county is billing me. My house burned; they double my property value for making improvements on the house they told me I don't have anymore !!! PLEASE HELP if you can. Thanks.

in Ohio currently it is 136000 for an individual and 272000 for a married couple this is real good news because with the high amount of consumer debt and junk debt buyers using the courts as a collection agency there would be a bunch of sheriff sales

Arizona has an exemption of one hundred and fifty thousand dollars. Do not forget about your rights under land patents.

I already applied for a Homestead exemption and I'm not exactly positive but I believe the lady at the clerk recorders office said something about me paying less taxes at the end of the year is that true? I also have a lot of bills in collections at the moment can a Homestead protect me from those creditors?

Thank you. This is the best explanation I’ve found yet of what a homestead actually is! Although I have heard we should also be careful about junk mail as well because people can request to charge for a service that is free, to file homestead. Appreciate you from Texas!

I used the homestead exemption for my primary residence in Nevada. If the HE protects from creditors, is that he same as saying it protects does from civil lawsuits? I ask because I work in a field where we can be sued for any number of reasons even if our actions are justified. Thank you

Yes, Indiana does have a homestead exemption. However, I don't know how much they protect you with.

That's a great question Quick Facts! In short... No, I'm not aware of any homestead that protects a homeowner from unpaid property taxes or anything do with local, state, or national government. Uncle Sam always has the right away from my observations. Best case scenario, is a homeowner may be able to keep their home though will have liens for unpaid taxes on their property that must be satisfied when the property changes hands in the future. Given your screen name, are you aware of any homestead that provides this type of protection anywhere in American? We're all #StrongerAndBetterTogether =) What would you like to see next?
