How a centerback who refused to tackle made every attacker fear him

Спорт

Paolo Maldini had one of the most dominant careers from a defender and he was able to do that without relying on one of the key components of defending tackling.

Maldini was not the greatest CB , he was the greatest defender , he played 400+ matches as a LB & 350+ matches as a CB

@@Josh-kp5bc 🤣🤣🤣 Maldini wasn't even a CB till the end of his career and wasn't a very good one, in the other hand he was a fantastic LB.. looks like you are a biased Milan or italian fan who never saw him playing, man, people these days is hilarious. He was maybe the best defensive LB, but not offensive. Beckenbauer could teach Maldini how to play football, looks like you never saw him playing neither

The title is somewhat misleading. For most of his career, when he played left back, one of the things Maldini was known for was his perfectly timed sliding tackle. So, no, he did not refuse to tackle, quite the opposite: tackling was one of his main strengths. The "legend" about Maldini not making tackles stems from an interview from Sir Alex Ferguson, who said that Maldini could go an entire game without having to make a single tackle, meaning he had by then (it was 2007) achieved such an amazing tactical awareness that he commanded the defense simply by positioning himself in the right place.

What is often forgot is the year they only conceded 15 goals, Milan barely scored a goal per game - and then won the Champions League having conceded only twice in 12 games. A likely unbeatable effort.

IKR, some people don't use actual "meaning" as they cannot relate to it. If you can tell them that when you jump, you're performing a triple backflip, because they don't assign the meaning of what a triple backflip is, they don't differentiate what it is vs a jump. In their mind both a jump and a triple backflip will be the same thing. Why, because psychology is great.

He was using sliding tackles but way less than other defenders. Also if you look at his game you will observe that his sliding tackles don’t miss the ball.

Need a better title. There is a picture of him and Cannarvaro both sliding tackle and pincering R9 at the same time. R9 still had the ball though. Not sure if he left with his knees in tack though.
