Kerchie is a KZreadr who repairs vintage Polly Pocket sets. She shows us how to restore a 28-year-old Polly Pocket set. This includes repainting the characters and the interior of the compact, creating a new foil logo and gluing it on, and creating new polymer clay wings for the characters.

But even then I thought of the hard work that Chinese factory workers were doing. I imagined them having severe neck and eye strain from painting the tiniest details for 8 hours a day. Sorry for taking all of the joy out of reminiscing about Polly Pockets😅. My girls loved them too and I kept all their old sets even though they don’t care about them anymore.

I wouldn't call this a professional restoration. Restoration is restoring what is already there and she replaces many things with mediocre materials like acrylic paint and polymer clay. Conservation is maintaining the condition and essentially preserving what is already there. Restoration is returning the piece to its original appearance & state, sometimes it would include an additive process to fix what's broken or missing in the item. She shouldn't have used materials which do not closely match what is present on the original. But it's a toy so here it's not a big deal . *I study art history, including conservation & restoration
I miss Polly Pocket! Seeing this made me really happy and I remember the times that I would play with my friend’s sets because we didn’t have a lot back then so I would just play with toys at my friend’s house. Great job! ❤️

@@yaytamas I wonder why they're expensive? Here in America, for the most part, second hand toys are pretty cheap; most ppl find them at garage sales or yard sales because the seller doesn't know what they have or it's slightly damaged. When you get into collectable toys, that's a whole other ballgame. lol I bet you could find the larger version online, I don't know if it's sold everywhere so you might have to limit the search to American stores but you can see what I'm talking about it. Felt wrong, ya know?
I used to want a polly pocket...but it was too expensive for my family....your restoration made me smile...it gives new life to the toy
I loved these when I was little. They'd be considered a choking hazard these days. I used to have the little compacts with the big jewel on them and the heart one that had a castle inside and the swan in a little lake.

Lol people would be trippin if they give this to babies, I mean they won't even understand! You just need to slap not for children under 3 yrs on it and it'll be fine. As a personal project for her own collection - nice work & it looks fun to do :) If you're planning on reselling the Polly Pockets though it's best to leave them in their original condition! Some of the restorations here changed the look of the original vintage design
So much fun to watch! My daughters & I love Polly Pocket! In the mid-90's to 2000's I used to find sets very cheap at second hand stores, so I had a very nice collection my girls loved to play with. They are now ages 21 to 27 and remember how much fun these were. Last year I found a HUGE bag of vintage Polly's & houses for $30 at a thrift store and you bet I bought it. They were so cute! I matched up and identified all the pieces/sets, so much fun! WE LOVE POLLY!
I had this as a kid! I loved Polly Pocket as a little girl; it was my only real "girly" love as a child. I had between 30-40 of them in my childhood and I have no idea what happened to them. I got my first one when I was roughly 6. This brought back good memories. :)

Can we talk about how calm and soothing the background music is?
I love watching your channel Kerchie. You showcase so many cute Polly's. Some of them give me nostalgia for when I was a kid playing with mine, and some of them are ones I never knew about. Over the past couple years I have started my own Polly Pocket collection. Even when they arrive in near mint condition its still always a good idea to clean old toys like this. You never know what kinds of germs might be on them. After cleaning comes the hard part though: Repairing and restoring! Your videos give such great advice and have helped me restore some of my Pollys. Currently all of my stuff is in storage, but I just got a new house, and once we move in and get settled I'll be doing all kinds of art projects, including fixing up all of my old Polly Pockets. I'm sure I'll be watching a whole lot of your videos for advice then! 🥰 Edit: Oooh I just remembered something. Hobby Lobby and probably a lot of other craft store sell special Q-tips for art projects and cleaning. I got some small really pointy ones. They're great for getting in those small spaces and corners where regular Q-tips might not fit.
