I feel like the premier league should add relegation playoffs to make the relegation process more competitive and interesting

Yea but then even if ur like 15th or 14th (which should be safe from relegation) you would still be threatened so mid-table wouldnt really be a thing it'd be basically relegation play offs

@@MahEditzz it wouldn’t kill mid table if you did 2 relegated automatically and 2 relegation play offs where the two teams play in play offs against 2 teams from the championship. Bottom 2 prem get automatic relegation Top 2 championship get automatic promotion (as usual) The play off (championship) winner gets promoted The 2 championship play off teams that lost in semis play another match and the winner goes the relegation play offs and the play off final loser also goes there so there’s 4 teams and it’s a normal play off round from there

No chance it would just make a fail safe for the poor teams in the league just look at Germany the Bundesliga club practically always beats 2. Bundesliga side

Reading finished 2nd in the championship this time and because of this change we got put into the playoffs

If they do cut it to 18 teams Everton are screwed

Well the championship has to take on the burden of congested fixtures if you reduce the size of the premier league and the championship has more than enough teams as it is. Unless more teams also drop from the championship to League One to counteract that, I don’t think it’s beneficial.

I think it was a good thing, we would not have the CL like it is today without this😅

Exactly, makes so much more sense. Remove the Carabao and make the Johnstone Paint open to Championship teams (also remove the Prem under 23 teams from it, really weird).

Ofc it’s good idea look at the injury crisis across the league ,big teams suffer especially like Man U,Newcastle for ucl or just simply unlucky like spurs and chelsea.

The change did not have anything to do with more teams in the UCL though increased games in the competition may have been a factor. There was just one team in the UCL at the time and an expansion to two teams was still a few years away. Fixture congestion and increased international football was the main catalyst along with the fact that the PL was larger than their continental counterparts and they needed to evenly distribute across the football leagues

Cut the league to 18 teams and do an SPL style split...it would be a crazy run in for the title and the relegation battle would be pure money.

If the league goes down to 18 teams it will mean in the championship, league 1, league 2 and non league will all be more congested which wouldn't be clever

Yes it’s a good idea imo, the smaller the league the better in terms of talent not being diluted like it is in Larger leagues

Gibraltar is only 10 teams in their league but that doesn't mean you find world class talent there
