Let's look at how the frost mage operates. Together, we will grow an organic understanding of the basics and be able to incorporate those basics into most any spec variation you choose. I have been a mage for about 15 years now, favoring arcane. I also have several max level mages, most are arcane. I have two main mages that I play, both of which can easily tackle high end mythic +, so I feel as though I'm an authority on the subject of mages. And I thought it was time to share some of my wisdom. Hopefully, someone out there is helped. Enjoy!

    Before ever casting a Flurry, you need to cast Frostbolt or Glacial (if available), because Flurry is a 3-hit spell (each bolt refreshes the duration). First bolt of Flurry will reach before Frostbolt/Glacial and will take benefit of being frozen. Second and third bolt will come after and 2 stacks of Winter's Chill will be applied again. In conclusion: Casting Frostbolt/Glacial before Flurry, will result practically in 3 Winter's Chill debuffs.

  • @ArcaneBrillianceMagemanda

    As a first time mage, I recommend playing as Frost because it teaches you priorities and reacting to procs like Brain Freeze and Fingers of Frost. Having a firm grasp of those concepts will help when you explore other specs or variations of Frost. As for the priorities list on the side: I made an action bar and put spells on it to help guide viewers. I then did a graphic overlay to draw your attention to it when needed.

    Yes, when you have no Fingers of Frost. Ray of Frost gives you 2 Fingers of Frost. So you wouldn't want to use it when you have FOF or you would overcap. So spend FOF, then ROF.

    your guide has helped me a ton on AOE damage.. but my single boss damage is terrible. i use wow heads myth plus and raid builds. but im really struggling on boss damage. the other thing i cant seem to understand is.. do you want winters chill on before glacial spike or not? wow head guide says when u have it with or without winters chill to use it? but the damage is a lot different with it on vs off. im also probably slow at casting. anyway can you explain the glacial spike question and any advice on single target?

  • @ArcaneBrillianceMagemanda

    @ArcaneBrillianceMagemanda

    Glacial Spike is priority 1. But if you can make it "winters chilled" with cone of cold or flurry, then do it that way. Lining up a flurry into glacial spike is optimal.

    I have been experimenting with different flavors of How 2 Guides. With the arcane one, I just gave you everything in what I thought was a clear way. So there was an emphasis on how arcanes rotation keeps building up and up. With frost, I wanted to emphasize the need for priorities and how those are built. And for fire, I thought 90% of the basics could be summed up by designing a reactive mini-game around it's rotation. So, in my brain, each spec is a puzzle of a set size. And arcane is a puzzle with 20 pieces, frost with 10, and fire with 5. Great comment!
