Can you give a description and dimensions of the metal motor bracket holders and the screw size needed please? I am referring to the brackets you use to fix the wheel shafts on that excruded aluminium frame

Hi! Is it not possible to use the existing hoverboard motherboard as a speed controller, and simply send the arduino PWM signal to the board? - overriding the signals from the pressure sensors.

Your work is amazing!!! is it possible take off the arduino componet and using a remote control (like RC) and wiring it on that brushless motor controller? its also possible have the reverse option on the motor without the arduino controller? i saw your other video when use a ps controller for RC, but is still possible using a normal RC radio and receiver? thank you in advance for your time

hi, thanks, for this motor controller i dont think its possible to connect it directly to an rc receiver, but you could always do the servo potentiometer hack, for the forwards and reverse its just a pin to enable the direction so that wont be a problem, thanks

Hey question I have two hoverboard motors and esc there the same and battery everything the same from a hoverboard but I'm wondering can I use everything like the speed controllers with a foot throttle cuz I tried installing a foot throttle and it doesn't seem to work idk what I'm doing wrong maybe u can help me

hi, yes you can, there is a lot from a hoverboard you can reuse, motors, motor mounts, battery, battery case, motherboard and even the leds, have a look at my hoverboard motherboard hack videos they should set you in the right direction

Can the accelerometer boards/ foot switches be replaced with analog 2 way potentiometer joysticks for motor control?

The foot switches / accelerometers are separate circuit boards units that connect to the motherboard using some weird serial link, if you want to modify them easiest way to bodge them would be to make something that holds the sensor / switch that you can tilt / rotate to move the motor, alternately possibly find points on the board where there is a signal for tilting and mimic it somehow, thanks

People have reverse engineered the orginal STM32 and GD32 mainboards used in hover boards and have built complete replacement firmware that can be fairly easily flashed. This gives you full control using anything from a nunchuk, pot, or even an easy-to-use serial protocol for which an Arduino library already exists. I'm using this firmware github.com/bipropellant/bipropellant-hoverboard-firmware for some personal projects in re purposing these powerful drivers & motors

does the green and blue wire control motor direction? if I switch green to blue and blue to green, motor would run in reverse controls? would I need to switch green and blue on hall sensor aswell?

A-Tech ah yes, got it! ran hall sensor wires into one wheel to trick the controller and using one gyroscope, making a one-wheel and connecting the two wheels face to face to make one wheel and they need to spin one opposite of normal for it to spin together as a whole as one wheel. thanks!

hi, yes they were on the same arduino, they were pwm controlled so you can use a 'fade' arduino example and then just connect the right pins, I dont recommend this motor controller , the hoverboard motherboard way is loads better, hope this helps

hi, the wiring diagram is in the later part of the video, you can get a screenshot from that, the code is really basic, you can use the fade example to send a pwm signal or use a dac to mimic a potentiometer, hope this helps!

I have built this project. However, with an ebike controller. The motor runs as it should with a potentiometer. If I give a PWM signal with an Arduino to the controller, the motor runs very irregularly. Do you know what the problem could be?

Yes 48 Volts would make it faster, you need to change it in the firmware from 10s to 12s I think

hi, all i know about these motors are they are 3 phase, hall sensored, 350w, 36v, you can find them on ebay for around £25 by themselves as a hoverboard spare part, hope this helps

Saludos! The original board modified by firmware has a microcontroller and multiple protections, it also uses FOC among many other options and controls two motors. The one in the video is a simple bdlc pwm controller with a pwm generator, some fet drivers and some mosfets.

Do you have to have a speed control or can you do direct on off full speed?

I dont know exactly but im pretty sure the hall sensor lets the speed controller know what position the motor is in, it helps with starting and smooth running

I have a working hoverboard motor (tested on another system ) , I have purchased a brand new 36v controller with lcd ( s866 ) brand new throttle and brand new hoverboard battery for my e bike project but I'm experiencing no throttle issues I have checked voltage and purchased 3 brand new throttles checked wires tried swapping around but still no throttle

how slow are you able to run those motors with those controllers? I was thinking of getting the same motors and controllers, but i need to be able to run them at about 10rpm. Will I be able too?

hi, thats a different question, most people want to know how fast they go haha, ok so im not using these controllers any more, its easier to just flash the old motherboard, as for speed i cant say i have ever tried to make them as slow as possible, i think they can go slow like you want but there may not me much power at that speed, hope that helps

Hi, your tutorial was so helpful, but I'm having a problem with my motor. Everything works, the direction, the stop/start, but not the speed control. Whatever number I put in for VR the motor only spins at max speed. Do you know what could be the problem Thank you so much!

I’m using a raspberry pi, and the 5V pin on the MCB is connected to the 5V on the pi. What exactly do u mean by the VR connected to the 5V. Thanks!

@@HarryB832 ok, its been a while since i made that video so i need to remember, so sometimes a potentiometer can be connected to 12v, but because your using a pi its going to be 5v, so what signal are you sending to the VR pin?

@@A-tech thanks so much for the replies. So the way I have it set up is the 5V on the MCB is connected to 5V pin on pi, ground to ground, VR to a GPIO pin, ZF to a GPIO pin, and EL to a GPIO pin. I’m not using a potentiometer. Again thanks so much for your replies they mean a lot.

yes trying to drive it with 2 sticks was very difficult to drive in a straight line, yes code seemed to work pretty good, so easiest way i found was to make it so when you press a button on the controller it just copied the stick value from one stick to both motor controllers

Have you ever operated the controller with a 10S LiPo battery? I think I bricked mine because of that :(

hi, the motor driver is described as a "12-36v 500w brushless motor controller", i cannot find any part numbers or official names for them, personally i would highly recommend not using them, i will explain more in a future video coming soon

Great video! These aren't actually motors in the conventional sense, they're linear propulsion systems arranged in a circle, from what I read, they are capable of very extreme torque and high speed rpm, using little amperage. Little is understood on how they are driven, as the companies who make the controllers won't disclose any info on them

These are a very common type of motor, BLDC or three phase permanent magnet motors. A lot is known about the control, although it is definitely a bit more difficult than just applying power to the wires. Look for Vector Control, or Field-Oriented Motor Control (FOC). Six-step commutation is a simpeler technique.

I have a couple wheels off a hoverboard with these motors, 8 wires go to each wheel, all 3 hall effect sensors in each wheel share a hot and a ground, and each has an output wire (5 wires total for the hall effect sensors), plus the 3 wires for the 3 phases. 6 N channel mosfets per wheel (2 per phase, can supply either hot or ground to the phase). I am setting this all up as we speak, going to make my own controller, if it kills me lol. I'll post the video. I made a video of the tests I ran on the hall effect sensors and what I learned about them, haven't posted it yet

@@mashedpotatoes5323 My point is that whatever secrecy involved in the running of these motors is hidden within the microcontroller itself, from what I've learned, the output from the controller isn't even classified as electricity, but it's a transmission signal of some sort, if you understand (or think you understand) how this works, please share with us or point to a source where we can learn more, I'm not claiming to know it all by any stretch, I'm just another tinkerer who is striving for answers and so far I've found very little on the technology of what runs these motors, the answers aren't very obvious, and there is evidence the manufacturers aren't sharing it with the public

soooo this isnt really a hack is it? Its like saing hacking a bicycle by putting the wheels onto a trike.... "Other uses for hoverboard wheel motors" should be the title of the video as with the rest of these types that dont show how to actually make use of the hoverboar PARTS ... smh or how about, how to connect a brushless speed controller? @@A-tech seem to me like they work just fine when you use a controller to control them. you didnt even hack the motor lol all you did was take the wheels and use them with a different controller. just saying. . . only person wouldfind this useful is the person who came here FIRST in their search. you can find these videos EVERYWHERE trust me because i have been finding them while looking for ideas to use the hoverboard's parts. Your title is what got me to click as i thought those terms are perfect and what u am trying to do. but i get here and its just one of the videos like "tur a hoverboard into an ebike" (by taking the wheels off of the hoverboard and using them on a bike frame with a chinese brushless controller) Now tell me how did he turn that hoverboard into an ebike? and how are you hacking this motor? lol i know i know im giving you a hard time about it but as you see, your title fakes me out/misleading or else i would prob not have clicked your link(although now i think i prob would have because of what i see in the thumbnail and any other title would have made me want to see it for inspiration etc)

@@A-tech I was pushing a shopping cart with 6 bags of feed at 40 lbs each, when all of a sudden the board started slowing down and beeping! So I turned it off and put it on the charger. When I turned it on again it did the same thing and was off balance. I purchased the motherboard and Gyro board to replace them, the gyro board doesn’t lock in with the wire clip, so I put the old one back on! It worked for about an hour or so and then did the same thing again! What’s wrong with it?😇
