It's rare nowadays because of demand and because of the expertise required. Things are mass produced now and those craftsman are rare. It makes maintaining a house such as this so expensive because the parts are special made as they are no longer produced. If they are it is a very niche market. This house is stunning and I would love to live in a such a place. Maybe I would update the garden as well (avid gardener here). However, I have a beautiful garden I wouldn't like to part with where I live so...XD leave it for someone else.

@@Rinsuki it’s the cost, and the fact that the masses don’t have access to the good lumber required, either. In fact, that kind of wood needs to be purchased salvaged, usually and can be difficult to find. Remodelers in the 1920s, 30s and 40s salvaged building materials, but more current remodelers did not. So many old homes are still being torn down. It’s the cost to save it vs the demand and willingness to invest the only non renewable resource-time- and sometimes ignorance plays a part.

It may have been like a Den with a TV and wood stove back for heating's sake, they may have done this just to feel quint in the late part of evenings as a family? But why it had to look so modern am not sure? Guess that would be the main thing anyone else could change. You are getting this house for a gem of a price, so you could totally change that kitchen and room attached into whatever you wanted? It would really be grand as an almost total-sized kitchen? If you were to search up the listing prices of these older homes and mansions, you'll find that although still expensive, they're much cheaper than they should be because it could take millions just to fix up. And it was in the southeast ; however, there are a couple of months of Jan-Mid March that get awfully cold. The attic fan is a lifesaver in the summer. In summer, Open windows and flip on the big fan. I never ever remember being hot at night. Howeva, if it is during the day it does get warm upstairs in these houses....but who the heck hangs out in the upstairs bedrooms in the day...we didn't ? I have to disagree about the "warm in winter" part, although it probably would be pretty good if we still had the original wood box stoves in the rooms; a modern heat pump can't quite put out enough heat to warm up the stones so that they radiate heat back at night. Having said that, it is lovely and cool, if a little damp, in the summer, and we often make it into mid-July before having to turn the AC on just in the afternoon.

OMG I’M IN LOVE WITH THIS HOUSE!!! Unlucky in Italy we don’t have this kind of architecture, that period style was pretty different over here!

OMG this is my dream home. I live in Boston and for the price I would love to pack up and head there! Something like this would easily go for 2-4M here. Gorgeous!

Wow! If the beauty and enchanting nature of the house wasn’t enough the price certainly is enough to at least think about buying it. I’d love to live in that house ! I’m amazed at how well kept it is.

This gorgeous Queen Anne home was featured in the book "America's Painted Ladies." It received mixed reactions when it was given it's current polychrome paint scheme. It is absolutely stunning inside and out. Clearly the historically accurate colors grew on people.

Definitely a trend towards going with original colors on the exterior. Less so with interior. I cringe when I see a beautiful wooden mantel painted white.

We love her colors, they are distinctive enough to stand out, 8 in number, but also soft and natural enough not to steal attention ALL from the magnificent grounds and natural features of the property so I think it is a lovely balance. Excellently chosen exterior color scheme and we will be keeping it for sure.

@@keepithistoric956 a lot of woodwork WAS originally painted but we will be peeking under the paint here and there to see what we want to strip, what we want to leave painted.
