This mansion needs to be moved to a larger piece of property but that’s the expensive part is the reassembly to perfect specs I would also consider just using all that material as raw materials for new projects for mantels and all the different things can be saved

Once again, thank you so much for pushing restoration. I cringe at the thought that some flipper is going to come in and just tear everything out and put the cheapest, most modern stuff in there. Even on KZread, folks are brainwashed by the window industry and think they have to replace them all. I know when young people come into my home, they wrinkle their noses and say "it's so old". Yes, my house is a work in progress, but it's not like I have the original wallpaper, drapes, and antiques everywhere. Also, I think cheap modernism has killed the appreciation for beautiful wood mouldings and trim and separated rooms. That butler's pantry -- I would add cabinets back and also add a washer and dryer for a "hidden" laundry room.

In 1983, I bought a house almost identical to this one, in the same shape. It had stunning oak mantels which were stolen the first time I went on holiday. Amazing when I found out my wealthier neighbors were the thieves. Yes, I recovered the mantels and became a lot more careful. This house is very well-laid out and not in bad shape at all. You always want to do the "un-fun" things first, like the electricity and plumbing and roof, and the kitchen. I would also suggest do not move in until you are at least halfway through. It's harder to do, and if you're that broke, you'd better wait. This house deserves the best.

I do enjoy videos that go through homes that have been restored correctly, especially this channel: I love the enthusiasm because I am currently restoring my own home, and it is encouraging to see what original fixtures should look like. What bothers me is when I hear suggestions to tear down walls, combine rooms or make rooms what they were not originally purposed for. Projects like those are ruining the original structure of a sound house that more than likely will create more problems. Perhaps I am an extreme preservationist, but if a buyer is looking for a modern update, they should buy a modern home. Homes that are 100+yrs need a special touch by those who appreciate the artistry that went into the architectural design.

I am blown away by the condition of all the fireplaces! It’s just amazing to me that this house is in such good condition. She must have had people who loved her and took good care of her for a long time. Even the really questionable decorating choices are reversible. I hope you will let us know what happens to her. It would be so much fun if someone in the Our Restoration Nation community purchased her and loved her back to beautiful. I hope someone here does that.🌸

Beautiful find! Some homeowner making it their dream will have a real treasure for sure! Last year, I renovated a 1904 Victorian in NE Kansas, it also had great bones; on a large corner lot in a quaint historic district. Four BR, 2 BA, two parlors, two story bay window, butler doors, open staircase and nice entry. Wral around covered porch. We paid $47,500! We upgraded elec and hvac plumbing, gutted the kitchen and bathrooms, painted throughout and outside. New decks, new driveways. Refinished the beautiful maple floors. It was an ugly duckling and she's a very pretty swan now. Did I mention I had to empty it by myself with big black trash bags, plus garage and attic....documented six tons of hoarder stuff. Prayed over the mice and bug issue, have no problem with either now. Thanks for sharing this beautiful old house with us.

I purchased my first house (built 1901) in Rochester NY when in my mid 30's. I did most of the restoration work myself. I'm now in my 60's and hire people to do anything that requires more effort than changing a lightbulb whenever I buy a property. I don't enjoy doing restoration work myself and find that my time is better spent earning money and spending it to hire professionals to perform any restoration required to my properties.

Another great presentation! Wow, what a beautiful place. One thing, not certain but what you were refering to as the servant's stairway was called a "Buck Way" in my youth (I'm 70). This was an enterance where unmarried, adult males could come and go without disturbing the young ladies living there. Especially in a smaller, in-town home such as this, it provided a place for them to smoke cigars etc. As you showed, it comes right up into a back entance of a bedroom area. Do please keep up the great work. Always enjoy your presentations. Cheers, Dick from Vancouver.

Oh, Laine! You have made me doubly homesick. In the past we lived in two different houses that have elements from each of these. In the late 1980s we lived in a 1 1/2 story Victorian cottage. We bought it for $48,000! The neighbor next door had bought it and done the few things that needed to be done to make it livable. It was white with pink Crepe Myrtles planted in the front. This house was in Hattiesburg, MS. Unfortunately we only lived there a year. From 1998 - 2002 we lived in a 1905 four square in Alexandria, LA. It had amazing dark paneling and fireplace surrounds that had never been painted. We bought it or $98,000 and sold it for the same. We moved often for employment and for the medical needs of one of our children but I have the kind of houses you love in my blood. Keep up the good work!

I just purchased an 1803 home in Indiana. Omg..it was a dream come true and now an eye opening experience that starts over each morning. The biggest and best thing I've done so far is contact a local historian and the state preservation association. I recommend this if you buy an old home. A walking tour with someone who knows the history of my home was fantastic and a wealth of information was gained. I assumed the trim should be stripped, wrong. I assumed the fireplace mantle was stained, wrong again. Many are faux-painted to look stained. I could go on!! I'm so grateful to have discovered this channel as it inspires me even more!! I just sub'd your channel,Thank you..

It looked like it was in a relatively nice street. I think it was worth the money and will look beautiful once restored. I hope someone that wants to preserve its beauty and style will buy it and not someone who wants to gut it and replace it with 21st century fixtures and fittings. The only negative is that there is no garden. There should be a beautiful and large rear garden to go with this stately home.

House is to die for. Your enthusiasm is contagious. Great video love to watch you walk through houses and love them the way you do. The only thing I can think that’s wrong with it is there’s no backyard just the side yard and no place to park a car. Owning a car is overrated I’d be sitting on the porch or the patio drinking pink ladies.

Amazes me how the cost of living is so much less down south. I live about 35 mins outside of Philly and $79k will not even get you a mobile home. A fully restored house like this will be closer to the $1M mark, if not more. My family relocated down to SC and i am working my way on heading that way as well. Not only due to cost of living, but weather as well.

So love these walk-thru vids. I am blown away at the intact condition of this house, especially the fireplace tiles!! I am only on restoration #2 but find the most frustrating thing is undoing prior renovations. The only thing about this house is that it doesn't appear to have any property with it--which for some, restored or not, is a game stopper. Thanks. I always learn so much from you all.

This home is so beautiful. The fact that non of the fireplace tiles are cracked or missing and the foundation is sound makes the price seem low if you ask me. Especially considering the age. Love love love the bed rooms and grand entry. Coat closet under the stairs, gut the kitchen and extend it into the pantry, make downstairs bath a half bath w laundry. I got a lil turned around upstairs but you would need a master bath and a second full bath. Oh it's just so beautiful.

  • @jwalk318

Great tip about looking for cracks in the fireplace mantel, and stairway to identify foundation issues! This is literally my dream home! I want a Victorian home that I can restore to its original glory while adding my own personal touch to it. All I see in this house is wonderful potentially, not a lot of work compared to some. I know some parts of restoration is more difficult, but for the most part, this would be more fun than work. Personally I’d strip a lot of the paint and bring back the natural wood! Restoring or replacing quality wood flooring is essential! Then lighten up the spaces with light paint, some pretty designs and light colours on wallpaper (feature walls) and light colours for furniture and decor. Good natural lighting coming in from clean, unobstructed windows and good lamps, lighting fixtures etc. I’d search for of have made, some unique stained glass windows to put in the window frames that there’s so many of over top of the interior doors. I would emphasize the home’s unique historic features and add some features that fit in style with the era. These small changes is what makes these homes look like multi million dollar mansions and not the cheaply thrown together, ugly boxes that you see rows and rows of identical, boring houses with the garage sticking way out in front like it’s supposed to be a focal point, eww, a few feet apart from each other, no mature trees, no privacy, that comes with buying a new house (if you can even call it that) in the suburbs. Edit-I’ve never seen those opening screen frames in that bedroom before! I love them so much! I’m definitely going to consider adding/making those for the windows if/when I restore an older home/cottage! If you notice the outside of the house later in the video, those wooden screen frames make the windows look much more attractive from the outside as well!

If you have teenagers, having squeaky stairs works like a charm. Nobody is sneaking out, or in past curfew. I grew up in a house from 1763. And my mom was a light sleeper. Nobody even tried sneaking out/in. My dad had all girls, he wasn’t going to fix those stairs.
