Even during the coronavirus crisis, we could not stand out of the Red Sea for too long. Since we already made a video about this location in the summer season this time we decided to find out what lives underwater in the winter. Our base of operations was the nearby hotel Fayrouz Plaza Beach Resort just like before.
This hotel offers various environments from grass and sand to shallows and coral reefs with deep water. This also offers significant biodiversity. This video starts deep underwater, then continues through the grass and sand of Marsa Mubarak, and ends on the coral reef in a small bay.

    Hey Great Video!!! I really binge-watched all of your videos and enjoyed them so much :) I have seen that you visited both the Three Corners Fayrouz and the Hilton Nubian Resort - could you recommend one more than the other? We are so indecisive between those two hotels...

    You can't go wrong with either. Personally, I definitely recommend Fayrouz. Both hotels are great, but I liked Fayrouz better. Or the marine life around the hotel. The only big advantage of the Hilton was the night snorkeling. However, we ran into dugong many times at the Fayrouz.

    I believe they offer trips to Sataya everywhere. It's probably the most popular trip they had in all the hotels I've been to in Marsa Alam. I've only visited Sataya once and that time I arranged it through a friend who lives in Egypt. It was a horrible experience for me. Lots of boats chasing dolphins, huge numbers of tourists, pollution and many dolphins had injuries from the boat propeller. Yes, I got some beautiful shots from there, but I would never go again under those conditions. Poor dolphins. 😞 However, I have good news for you. Dolphins regularly swim into the lagoon at Fayrouz. Ask the lifeguard at the jetty when they usually show up.

Hlídač u hotelu lidi kontroluje, zapisuje a měl by kontrolovat, zda tu vestu mají.

The hotel I am looking at has nice house reefs, so a visit to this bay would just be for the manatee and turtles.

  • @themako

    @themako

    @Aaron B If you want to see a manatee you will be disappointed. They do not live in Egypt. But if you will be lucky enough you may encounter a dugong. :-) They are cousins. However, there is just a single one and you must be very lucky to see it. When I was there for the first time in summer I encountered it just once in 11 days. The second time in winter I met him four times in a week. He feeds on grass early in the morning and then he returns at approximately 4 p.m. Turtles are present almost all day long and you will see them. There is so much of them. • @themako

    @themako

    Жыл бұрын

    Hi, Laura, I hope you don't mind me answering here, but maybe my answer will help someone else. I often get questions about these two hotels. 🙂 The Hilton Nubian wasn't bad at all, but I like the Three Corners Fayrouz better - I've been there three times now. I just don't know how things are now at Marsa Mubarak, as they have supposedly built a new hotel there since my last visit. This may have an impact on the turtles and especially the dugong, which we used to see very often. (No boat. Just after dawn. By the way, you can see it in both Fayrouz videos - there is a reference to a specific time in the description.) There are of course a huge numbers of turtles in this bay, mostly green sea turtles, but there are also hawksbill sea turtles on the edge of the coral reefs. The hotels are otherwise quite comparable in standard, however I liked the Fayrouz resort better. There was never a problem with the food at either hotel. We were never sick, but I must admit that we followed the general rules for Egypt and avoided some particular ingredients. Fayrouz's housereef offers two types of environment - a coral wall and a lagoon with shallower corals, where visibility is worse. The grass is in Marsa Mubarak. The only drawback I see is that it is not possible to snorkel here at night. The Shams Alam hotel is also amazing, the snorkeling there is truly incredible. But it's a small hotel without all the various amenities. And that's where we were unfortunately sick. But they have lots of turtles, dugong and big stingrays. If you have any other questions, feel free to ask. 🙂
