This is Raja Ampat (4k) - dive into the dream of biodiversity
Breathtaking dives in Raja Ampat, West Papua, Kri Island, Indonesian coral reefs. As part of Coral Triangle Raja Ampat in West Papua has the highest biodiversity and the most colorful reefs on the planet, around 75% of the world’s coral species live here.
The size, maturity and healthiness of corals in this region is insane! A large part of the marine life in Raja Ampat is protected by 7 Marine Protected Areas (MPA's).
Raja Ampat is an archipelago of over 1500 small islands, including the four main islands of: Misool, Salawati, Batanta and Waigeo.
We started our trip in Amsterdam (The Netherlands), 2 flight transfers, 2 boat transfers and +30 hours later we arrived at Kri Island at Kri Eco Resort + Papua Diving for 10 days. Together with my daughter, Isabelle, we made 22 dives at the most beautiful dive sites there are.
All the dive sites are 5-25 minutes from Kri Island: Kri Eco Jetty, Chicken Bay, Mikes Point (!!), Blue Magic, Sardines, Sapokren Jetty, Melissa’s Garden (!!), Chicken Reef, Sorido Wall, Friwenbonda, Citrus Reef, Cape Kri and a lot more!
We stayed on Kri Island, at Kri Eco Resort. Kri Eco Resort is located in the center of the Raja Ampat Marine park at Kri Island. Papua Diving provides guided dives for Kri Eco Resort and (sister resort) Sorido Bay Resort. The local Papuan dive guides of Papua Diving are the best experienced dive guides in Raja Ampat.
Raja Ampat has more than 1000 species of fish, 540 species of coral and 700 species of mollusk. Predatory fish such as Barracudas, Blacktip Reef Sharks and Whitetip Reef Sharks are fully present. Large Oceanic Manta rays are attracted to the rich plankton waters. Schools of fish are everywhere and sometimes a bait ball can be seen. Beside the beauty marinelife the Kri’s forests are rich in birdlife and reptiles.
A special part of the marine park are the Mangroves at Hidden Bay (6:06), they offer critical nursing environments for juveniles of fish species. World's largest amount of mangrove coverage can be found in Indonesia. The Mangroves where one of the highlight’s of this trip!
During our stay we made excursions to Fam Islands, Hidden Bay and The Passage, they are the very definition of paradise.
- (7:00) Fam Islands are a group of islands in the Raja Ampat Archipelago. White limestone cliffs plunge into the sea. Ultramarine blue lagoons are nestled next to monumental pinnacles and untouched beaches.
- (6:06) Hidden Bay has a mangrove system of clear mirror-still blue water, where soft corals grow on the roots of mangrove trees. Rising above the foliage hornbills and parrots swoop between the trees. Hidden Bay is a complex network of interconnected water channels and lakes.
- (7:23) The Passage lies between the island of Gam and Waigeo. It can be described as river flowing between the two islands. The nutrient rich waters that are drawn through by the tides feed a vast wealth of marine biodiversity. Above water the sheer limestone cliffs make this a place excessively beautiful.
Places like this are sensitive to climate change. It's frightening to see how many people close their eyes for climate change. Climate change and a decrease of biodiversity are caused by overpopulation. Overpopulation is the main cause of most urgent problems in the world.
This film is the result of around 20 hours of 4k video footage and a few months editing. Shot in May / June 2019.

I'm 4 years late but I just wanted to thank you for putting in the effort with your white balance. A rarity with underwater videos on KZread. Thanks for all the color. 🙌🏻
thank god raja ampat is the most expensives trip that u can found in indonesia..not everyone has the opportunity to enjoy these underwater paradise, even we're the locals..make it exclusive and remain protected from the hands of irresponsible humans!..thanks for this beautiful footage that u shared with us.

The key to conservation in Raja Ampat was getting the locals on board, especially the fishermen. It's expensive because of it's location. It's totally unethical to insinuate that if you're not rich, you're irresponsible.

Look how beautiful Raja Ampat is. This is just Raja Ampat, there are many more underwater paradises in Indonesia such as Bunaken, Derawan, Wakatobi and others waiting to be visited. As Indonesian, I confimed that I am so proud to be Indonesian because at the time of creation, God smiled when he created our land 🥹☺️

I dived 7 times last summer. One of the most incredible experience in my life. Such a magical world. 💙
Indonesia, the only country in the world, with thousand of extremely beautiful dive spot in the world. Seriously, even if you took your whole life, exploring Indonesia underwater, uncover the beauty, from Sabang to Merauke, it will never enough and never will be. But diving is scary though, that pitch black darkness slop when I put my head below the ocean surface, give me anxiety. But seeing video of Indonesia diving scene, is always give me a whole new meaning about what is life, what is our purpose as human, as life being. There reasons why Sabang island is claiming 1st spot in world diving magazine for 5 freaking years. An other top 9 is dominated by other Indonesian dive spot. If I were rich, diving and underwater photography will be my first course to enjoy my life, only to explore these Indonesian majestic scene.
If I had any doubt before, after seeing this video, I´m sure that it will be my first dive destination after all these crazy days are gone. Amazing video, the colors, the editing, the music, absolutely perfect. Thank you.
I went to Raja Ampat a few years ago and it was crazy how beautiful it was. great job capturing it! I enjoy your shooting style
The landscape of raja ampat is absolutely insane, but u take a great capture. Especially the undetwater footage, the angle, the animal, the lighting, the schooling fish combine with light. I've been there once and offcourse wants to go there again. Well done
This is some of the most extraordinary footage I’ve ever seen
Thank you very much for the effort of making this breathtaking video. I went to Raja Ampat 4 years ago and I am forever grateful for the amazing experience. Am crying watching this, I hope everybody can see this and not taking our nature for granted

Very true! This video makes me think of how awesome and amazing the world made new will be, if it is this beautiful in its fallen state!!
To all local and foreign tourists ... look at the beautiful natural treats that can soothe the soul ... as a citizen of Indonesia I ask for help to be able to protect and preserve the environment by not littering on the beach ... let's protect this nature as a shared heritage
Exquisite, thank you for posting! The only place I have dived that even comes close is Anilao, Philippines, but the sheer numbers of fish In Raja Amat are way beyond. It is like a dream. It is amazing how SCUBA diving makes one aware of climate change on such an immediate level-- I see changes for the worse in repeat places I have gone just over the past 10 years, in terms of fish numbers and coral health. If only we could find a carbon-neutral way to get to Raja Ampat!!! I hope there is still time to see it in the way you present it here.
Some amazing shots you got there! Underwater life in Indonesia is magic and now I have a new place on the list to visit!
thank you for making this amazing and such a great documentary! as an indonesian who never been Raja Ampat before, it feels like i know the beautiful of Indonesia more! love ya and be healthy always, hope you have agreat day! xx

Spectacular video! Thank you so much! Beautiful
What stunning footage. The clarity is so remarkable, I feel so fortunate to have seen this video. My wife is from east Borneo, we went scuba diving near Maratua island which is off the north eastern coast, it was so amazing, made we want to scuba dive in other places and I have heard that Raja Ampat is kind of the best in the world. I hope to go someday. You say that overpopulation is causing climate change, but that’s really not true. It is the irresponsible destruction of habitats and forests world wide alongside the over use of fossil fuels. Deforestation is rampant and truly, mankind needs to sound the alarm bell a bit louder because this destruction of the earth is the end of humanity. When it comes down to it, greed is really the reason for climate change. If greedy fools weren’t destroying the forests for money and farming with so many pesticides and herbicides and if the oil and coal industries would invest their money in cleaner technologies we could probably have 15 billion people on the earth. I believe there is hope. I see many wise people like yourself taking notice and if we share our love for the planet with others, who knows, maybe we can reverse climate change and God will help us to restore the planet that we are destroying. Peace to you
Beautiful pristine, remote location... great underwater videography.
