"The only thing that could tear down the house of the dragon, was itself." That statement is still true to this day. Think about daenerys in game of thrones. Jon Snow, who was also a targaryen, was the one to kill her because anyone else would've failed because she stopped trusting anyone else after she was betrayed multiple times and everyone she loved died. The House of the Dragon is its own downfall.
