The misunderstood his dying words is not really a strong excuse. She decided he meant Aegon, even though the original king was called Aegon, Rhaenyra herself has a son called Aegon. And he said a lot of things that made no sense for her son. He never dreamed anything about the North, the winter, the dark, a song of ice and fire. So she used that as an excuse. But she was planning this since she wore green to Rhaenyra’s wedding, was complicit to the murder of the Hand of the King by his own son, and tried to have Luke lose his inheritance. Viserys NEVER wavered since he had the realm swear to Rhaenyra. And there, in his death bed, after he got up to defend her claim, without mentioning changing heirs, when he was in pain and drugged put of his mind, he suddenly changed his mind? She can try to use that to excuse her actions, but I don’t think even Alicent believes he wanted Aegon on the throne.

Choosen and Rightful Heir are two different things in this HOTD PLOT. Rhae was the "Choosen " one, her bloodline (Aegon aka Jon snow the prince who was promised ( Ned promised to protect at the tower of joy "promised me ned" promised me") united the 7 kingdom against the white walker..... While Aegon II, is the Rightfull One,.. Viserys Dreams in EP. 1 ( A son born to me, wearing iron crown, I heard the thudering hoves, splintering sword shields, as bell of grand septon ring ad the dragon roar as one . Letterally happen on EP.9. Aegon ii coronation.. Being the " Choosen" one" does not mean you have to be the Rightful MONARCH! Ex. Jon snow, (Choosen) , Danaerys(Righfull One won the Throne by" Conquest" so by the law she is the rightfull one..

Aegon is not Geoffrey. Aegon has a certain talent in sniffing other people's weakness and exploiting them. He's a more complex villain.

She really that delusional because of all that mental pressure and trauma that she believed her husband all sick and out of his mind wished her son to be the king after he actively fought for Rhaenyra all these years till his last breath. I love the way all these complex characters are written, this is how family feuds starts.

People are only supporting Rhaenyra and hating Alicent because of the “meta-gaming” If you never watched the scene prior of Viserys sharing the story of Aegons dream to Rhaenyra and the first time you heard of it was him talking to his wife in his final words than your view would be changed

Alicent's biggest mistake is she keeps trying to serve both her house and the realm. As a leader, as a ruler you cannot serve both. Even Otto understands this. If you are the rulers you cannot put your house above the realm or there will be consequences for the realm. Otto justifies his movements by saying he is doing what is needed for the realm and it's just a great bonus his house is benefitting. However, you just can't serve both completely at the same time. That's why there's a King. The King is meant to be the one person that always puts the needs of the realm above his house. He's supposed to do what no other man in the realm can completely do which is put the realm above all else. What caused the war is Viserys putting his house, which to him is his first family, above the realm. I love Viserys, he was a good man that made far too many mistakes because he loves too deeply, is too loyal and tried to ignore things he shouldn't have for the sake of peace. In his grief he made a massive mistake and put the needs of his house above the needs of the realm and thus here we are. One would think after witnessing it for years Alicent would try not to repeat Viserys mistake. Then again the Dance of the Dragons is about people putting their house above the realm. Rhaenyra tried to put the realm above her house at first but with the murder of her son she now couldn't care less.

Yeah Alicent and Otto can plot all they want. If Rhaenyra got along well with her brothers and sister, they won't usurp her. Especially not Aegon who didn't even want to be king. And without him, there is no way they can take the throne. So the one person Rhaenyra really needed at her side and as her ally was Aegon.

Of course, she would advocate for her sons rights according to the law of the land, and only thing she’s ever known. She did not make Rhaenyra be cold towards her siblings or see them as hightowers and she did not make society see Rhaenyras sons as bastards, furthering the rift.

Because if they call them Hightowers or Alicents children they can simplify the conflict. They are siblings brothers and sisters, this is a family conflict like many families sadly have them over inheritance. Just that they are royalty and have firebreathing lizards. But in essence it's a dysfunctional family. That doesn't sound as good though, not as righteous. Because if they don't see them as one family they don't have to ask themself questions like would I be so distant towards my own brothers and sister? She just asked for the torture of her own little brother, could I do that to make sure I inherit over my sibling? Imagine your big sister doesn't care about you or your wellbeing. That must hurt. But if they are not family, if they are the Hightowers they can see them as outsiders and don't need to ask themselfs any of these questions. It makes it easier. That's at least what I'm thinking.

At the very least be make more public announcements stating that Rhaenyra will stay as heir or gather all the houses to have them restate their vows to Rhaenyra.

It's about a Targaryen civil war....of course there will be action. Season 1 is there so you understand why the conflict (which will last until the end of this show) happened because, as Rhaenys says, at some point the characters might not even remember why it happened, since they are all focused on killing each other.

At that poont in time Aemond had no problems with Daemon, his beef was with the strong boys. However now that the war has kicked off, Aemond has beef with the entire black faction.
