Not sure if you covered it, but i saw info that they will have an intro/opening theme playing beginning next week. I think they wanted to start with a cold open in episode 1 and didn’t include it:)

Matt Smith was the standout for me. Absolutely loved his portrayal as Daemon. I know a lot of book fans were skeptical with his casting so I hope he proved them wrong

I don't know why the ending sequence had me so happy maybe it was the music, maybe it was the cinematography idk

The only thing I am hesitant about HotD is that in Fire and Blood the crown was contested between the Rhaenyra and Aegon (aegon being the kings first son from his second wife) and that Daemon actually sided with Rhaenyra. This is all setting up Daemon v. Rhaenyra which like….in the book it wasn’t. Like, the Blacks and the Greens. That was the dance of the dragons. I enjoyed the first episode but I’m skeptical to about the changes.

They’ve still gotta cover all that time leading up to the son and while he ages, we already saw Daemon show his love for her I bet we’ll just see the character growth that wasn’t shown in the books

Bruh horses are tough af. They ain’t going down by a face plant.

The episode did as good a job as it could have done, tho I can only truly rate it retrospectively after seeing the season that it sets up. Unfortuantly I am watching via NOW tv since HBO max is not in the uk and I have the ad free version and there are random black screens with the targarean logo to represent ad breaks that break up the flow. Kinda pissed about that.

It felt decent to me, but very much a setting up episode.

I thought the gold cloak helmets were a bit goofy and the prince’s helmets although they were supposed to be ostentatious in-world, didn’t quite do it for me. They looked fake. Those would be the only other nitpicks on top of the CGI. 7.5-8 is a fair assessment.

There were some impractical things but I thought costume design was one of the strongest points

@@TheJackedNerd. I agree, it was in contrast with some of the other costumes that made them stick out, but only a bit. The row of knights when the prince was choosing his opponent were sick. Hightower’s helmet was really cool. Idk what it was about the Prince’s helmets, definitely a nitpick. Looking forward to the the season; it was way better than the Wheel of Time costume designs. HBO has a really good grasp of what feels and looks real for the vast majority of their productions.

I think my expectations for the chapter were too high, it felt like a game of throne episode (that is great) but none of the characters really grab me, I know got always had horrible people, that is part of what makes it great but it was never only horrible people (sure Rhaenyra was fine but still did almost nothing so far). Hope as they show more I can see they are all great characters. The tournament was probably the low point in the writing, it did not make sense for me and seemed to try just show violence to hook people as yousaid, why would noble just kill eachother, why would aiming at the horse be a legal move and why is not everybody doing it and more important why would you use a open face helmet when spears are comming at you. Sure you can say they really try not to harm the prince but did not seem to be the case. Anyway lets see how the characters and the show evolve, have not read the stories so no idea what happens

Fair points, felt like a solid episode of GOT to me, as I said Viserys is now my guy he definitely grabbed me
