    Exactly. Even Rhaenyra recognized she is an innocent & of all people she would never do this to her. I feel really bad because no one was even trying to understand or listen to Helaena's warnings or at least her fears I mean she had no guard thanks to Cole, I know she speaks in riddles mostly & perhaps she doesn't know how to communicate her premonitions or even understands them fully (I personally think she is Neurodivergent or on the Autism spectrum which could contribute) but people just ignore her entirely.

    When Otto said that he loved Jaehaerys, too, that felt like the most cold and loveless sentence of the whole episode, like there wasn't an ounce of love in it; the only thing he thought about that death was how to use it to adantage, and he showed no understanding for anyone having an actual real emotion about a death.

    Much disagree, can we say Elicent does not love her grand children just because there are no scenes that show her playing or hugging them? Otto might be truthful about what he said, we might not know that either. But as the Hand, he must do what he must, to the greatest extend. He was one of the greatest Hands in the history. Whatever he did and advised, as shown in this episode, was wise. And wisdom is the single most important quality of a ruler - said Tywin Lanister, GOT 4x3.

    The dynamics of parent-child bond between Otto and Alicent is reflected onto Alicent and her own children: Aegon, Haelena, and Aemond. Alicent never received compassion, warmth, affection, and sympathy from her dad; hence, she is unable to offer such actions and emotions toward her own children. She tries to confess her sins to Otto but he doesn't have the time for Alicent, his own daughter. For Otto, everything is about practical usage and rationality, no emotion and no feelings. As such, Alicent tries to justify her actions to Haelena, unable to fathom her daughter's state mind slowly descending into psychotic breakdown. Since Alicent is unable to provide comfort for her children having received none herself from her father, her children seek it elsewhere by themselves: Aegon cries by himself in anger and despair, Aemond seeks comfort in brothel, showing regret for his past actions.

    here's my 2 cents re:Daemon. we hear the phrase "a son for a son" 2 times. the first time it's in ep.1 when he asks Raenys to go with him to kill Aemond and Vaghar. the second is from Blood & Cheese. it is clear to me that Daemon told them the phrase when he instructed them. we didn't hear him say it, which means that there was more to that conversation that we didn't hear. Raenys remembered the phrase, put 2 and 2 together and immediately knew that Daemon was behind the attack. so far so good. now, what did Daemon mean when he said "a son for a son"? did he mean just Aemond? did he also mean Aegon? did he mean ANY son? based on how smug Daemon is afterwards, I can only conclude that he either 1. wanted things to turn out as they did or 2. didn't much care who died as long as blood was spilled (not unlike Aegon when he killed all of the ratcatchers). now, why did he insist it was a "mistake"? maybe he realised that he had messed up. or maybe he didn't want to reveal his hand and tried to manipulate Rhaenyra. in any case, I don't believe him. Rhaenyra is right to never trust him fully. Daemon remains my favourite character - we love to mistrust him ^^ Omn1 was right to say that we can never hate Matt Smith as Daemon

    Notice how Alicent makes everything about herself in this episode. She’s ok with Helaena being a part of the funeral but when Otto says she has the be there as well she said she doesn’t want to be a spectacle. Also bringing up her affair to her clearly grieving and agitated daughter after telling her the baby’s body is going to be paraded around as some sort of PR move.

    2:05 - There is so much symbolism in having Aegon destroy the model his father built. So much time, effort, careful planning, and love put into crafting it…. Much like Viserys’ rule, his devotion to being a good and peaceful king. Aegon has come along and destroyed everything his father built this episode, both the model and the kingdom itself.

    Also, 29:26 - She didn’t even say “I want Aemond’s head”. She said “I want Aemond Targaryan”. That’s open wide enough for interpretation. It could mean she wants his head, it could also mean she wanted him captured and brought to her alive.

  • @jackson857
    @jackson8575 күн бұрын

    5:33 I'm sorry, when did Rhaenyra demand Aemond's head? How did she instigate this? She said, "I want Aemond Targaryen" just after she'd returned from finding whatever remained of her son when she was grieving. She didn't even say she wanted him dead and even if she did, it doesn't make her in any way responsible for the death of Jaehaerys. What Daemon did is entirely on him. Like Rhaenyra says, "I think you used my words as an excuse, to take your own revenge."

    In the behind the scenes of this ep they showed how they created the slain child for the episode. It’s a full cast made from a model of the actual little actor. Also since Helaena is a dragon dreamer, I think she WAS seeing something during the funeral. She looks up and sees the falling grain and looks to the sky... it looks like the ash that falls after Daenerys sacks Kings Landing in the finale of GOT. I think Helaena saw a vision of her flying over the city and immediately understood that she was witnessing the destruction of the city by a dragon. In the opening credits of the show, you see a tapestry. . I think a tapestry made by Helaena herself. If you look carefully there are glimpses of the original GOT showing Dany throughout her life ending in the sacking of KL.

    Meh. Viserys spent time with his kids- throwing a hunt for Aegon's 2nd birthday, observing the sword-training of his sons and grandsons, and being one of the few who actually listened to Helaena's rambling when she was younger (albeit he was confused by them) He was sick and it's implied being over-medicated by Otto and Alicent specifically so that he'd be unable to sit the throne so I'm not sure how much of that we can actually pin on him.

    @@vadalia3860 Viserys completely neglected them and minded them as their “king”, not their father. He doted on a baby Aegon because he wanted a son for a long time, then he decided he didn’t care anymore, and chose to devote all his time to his model and to Rhaenyra. He cared far more about Rhaenyra and her children than his own by Alicent. This is a known fact. Yes, he was ill, but he literally goes as far as to refer to Rhaenyra as his “only child” and does everything to defend her and her kids, even at his weakest. It tells you everything you need to know and more about how he treated his other children.

  • @roguechevelle

    @roguechevelle

    Your not wrong about him neglecting his kids by Alicent, I think it's more stemming from his guilt over Aemma's death that he isn't as close to Alicent's kids and is closer to Rhaenyra. It's all super complicated for sure, almost all these characters are very grey. Rhaenyra had a loving mother in Aemma so even if Viserys was occupied by his need to have a son that she felt overlooked her mother was there to comfort her until she wasn't of course. Alicent isn't a very loving mother, she doesn't know how comfort her own kids in fact she seemed emotionally distant from them and so the kids grew up thinking neither parent really loved them. If she had been a loving affectionate person towards her kids that may have change things perhaps for them, they would have felt they were loved at least by one parent.

    I'm not sure where your confusion over what Daemon said comes from. The exact line was "'a son for a son,' HE SAID." Blood is directly quoting Daemon here and says that he's quoting him. I think we don't see Daemon say it directly as a callback to the "heir for a day" line and to preserve some amount of ambiguity as to HOW he said it, but we're not supposed to question IF he said it. He's a piece of shit who murdered his first wife so it's absolutely not beneath him. I also disagree that Aegon ever had potential to be a good king. Robert Baratheon is a good example of how a bad king is made out of someone who never wishes to do the hard parts of governing. Aegon didn't thoughtfully weigh the pros and cons of the situations brought to him and make a conscious decision to take a slightly more pro-smallfolk stance. He just wanted to do whatever would get him gratitude and admiration from the person in front of him, regardless of whether it was the right thing to do. He's also a rapist who was okay with his children (so long as they're bastards) being tortured and killed in pit fighting so nothing's beneath him either. Lastly- Aemond is absolutely at fault for Luc's death. No ambiguity there. He did the equivalent of firing a gun at his nephew with his eyes closed... he doesn't get to pretend he didn't mean to kill him, even if he does feel bad afterward in this version.

If Daemon would have waited let her grieve so more then ask questions on how she wanted that done.

Daemon was his typical dramatic messy self.

    IMO, Daemon told Rhaenys 'A Son For A Son" in the very beginning when he wanted her to ride out again with him to kill Ameond and Vhagar. Then Blood told Cheese "He said a Son For A Son" Blood didn't hear him say that to Rhaenys so he had to have repeated that to Blood. Whether Daemon did it while walking in with Blood alone to Cheese or once Cheese asked the question. But I think it was the response to Cheese's question because Blood said it to Cheese as if you heard what he said and not like I am telling you something you never heard before. Daemon is crazy guilty. The other way to know this is because he was completely silent sitting at that table in the war room. When has Daemon ever been quiet in that room at that table?

    Not knowing what Daemon said to Blood and Cheese parallels perfectly with how they cut away from his "heir for a day" toast in the very first episode of season 1. What you see is Viserys sending Daemon away in a rage because Viserys assumes the worst interpretation. Rhaenyra does the exact same thing. And we the audience don't know whether they're right or not.

    The sentence Blood said was not a son for a son, but "a son for a son, He SAID". That is very clear. The king was not available, so only the boy remained. Kristen is the boss of all the guards. He has assigned the guards himself, so that he can go to Alisant unnoticed.

    A son for a son. Meaning Aemond. It wasn’t “a grandson for a son”... The showrunner said Daemon didn’t order the child’s death. He only asked for Aemond. 🩸🧀 chose the boy out of desperation realizing they would be wholly unable to find Aemond before they were found out. Blood thought it would be a quick in and out. Cheese didn’t want to go upstairs bc he knew he didn’t know how to find/kill Aemond.

    And before you say “well the book says..” I have and read the book. Which is a BIASED HISTORY book written by people that weren’t there and went by word of mouth to tell what they think happened. Like the Bible. The Bible has many versions of the same stories and they are 100% not what happened word for word. Fire and Blood is just an assumed history. The show is what really happened. If you take issue with it, take it up with GRRM. Bc he said the events in the show are what happened. And that Daemon is many things, but he doesn’t lie to Rhaenyra. 🤷🏼‍♀️

    @@Persephone_Personified You tell half stories and then not even in the right way. First, a son for a son does include the boy, because he also has a mother. He is Helena's son and therefore a son of the Hightower family. Second, yes, Deamon gave not the direct order the murder of the boy. "A son for a son, he said". That was the alternative. And the alternative includes all available sons. Amond couldn't be found, so Aegon and the boy remain. Aegon was also unreachable and probably no one would have dared, so only the boy remained. So yes, Deamon gave the instruction as an alternative and he was well aware of who it could hit. Deamon is not stupid and does not say so directly. He didn't mourn much at the table either, he actually had a grin. For him, it is not the optimal solution, but it is a solution, because he wants war. Third, the showrunner never said that Deamon didn't give that order. This is simply a lie that you make up to convince less informed people of your argumentation, which is simply poorly thought out. He only said they wanted to leave it open for interpretation. That's what he said. However, I think that if you take into account everything that was actually shown and said, the logical conclusion is that Deamon did not want the death of the boy optimally, he wanted Aemond, but secondarily he can very well work with the deaths of either Aegon or the boy. The main thing is a son for a son, and not for his wife, but to finally be able to start the war with his wife. That she can concentrate on the things that are important to him. For example, finally kill Reagar, which he wanted to do at the beginning.

    I appreciate that Larys manipulates everybody... by using the TRUTH. There's somethin' more impressive about that than if he was lying to (it's also why I really like Angelus in the Buffyverse, no need for lies when the truth can often do much more damage). I mean, I hate him... but its more compelling this way 😂

    Is this what fans mean when they say Daemon and Rhaenyra are their parents? When one of them can't come up with an argument or is about to say something they know they'll regret, they walk out instead. And now Daemon's gonna come up with some grand gesture, when what Rhaenyra needed was for him to own up to what he did...but the Riverlands are cool too I guess.
