If Aegon is truly dead , Alicent will have this remorse about the thing she said to Aegon .. leading to him to basically say “I will prove all of you wrong”… best episodes so far season two

Here's the thing that gets me; Aegon is honestly remarkably easy to manipulate/mold. Literally all he ever wants is a little attention and affection. ESPECIALLY from Alicent. He was at such a low point in this episode in his self-esteem that he straight up asks her "What would you have me do?" - and I honestly think he would have accepted almost any answer she gave and actually tried to do it. But Alicent is just so jaded to everything now that her pretense of carrying out Viserys's dying wish is gone, so messed up from her own upbringing, and already so resentful of her son for what he's grown up into, that she can't offer him even a little nudge in the right direction or word of consolation. All she can tell him is the brutal truth, that what she needs from him, what she thinks he's good for... is nothing. And so he flies off recklessly to war and gets himself mangled and scorched. So much of what happens with Team Green comes down to generational trauma and the complete inability to be there for each other, emotionally.

It's sad because for all the sacrifices, they never really sacrificed any time to even prepare Aegon to be king. Which was on purpose, he was only meant to warm the seat, not actually rule.

Yes no spoilers but Sunfyre is described in the books as the most splendid and beautiful dragon. Like a golden phoenix, George has a real knack for punishing beautiful things.

We haven't seen Sunfyre before but he's supposed to be the most gorgeous dragon in the realm. I wish we'd gotten more. Even more upsetting, we haven't seen more than a glimpse of Dreamfyre, who is Helaena's dragon and the third-largest dragon alive at this time (after Vhagar and the unclaimed Vermithor).

Yeah, its disappointing they haven't shown Dreamfyre. There was a touching moment in the book where Aegon and Helaena fly around King's Landing together with Sunfyre and Dreamfyre but they chose not to bring this moment to the show for some reason.

Interesting change from the book: in the book, Aegon was in on Cole's plan. He and Aemond ambushed Rhaenys together. Here, Aegon f'ed up and paid for it... it makes sense for the Greens to spin it after the fact.

They are really trying their hardest to trash Aegon in every possible way. At least the actor is carrying it hardcore and making him interesting (and even did some pushback to the directors when they said Aegon doesn't know how to ride a dragon).

@@Loll0saurusto be fair, the show could spin it as propaganda that he was in on it all along and it could have been recorded in history that way (the preview for next episode states that aegon killed Meleys and Rhaenys for example.

To be honest that's just the readers interpretation, like so many things people say were "in the book". We have a later written history of the incident which goes into no real detail. What happened in the show could be exactly what happened in the book.

I think Meleys stood a good chance against Vhagar had she not already had to tangle with sunfyre and take those flames when Aemond attacked both dragons. Rhaenys is a huge loss. Her wise and loyal council to Rhaenyra especially.

Aegon’s dragon is Sunfyre, Dreamfyre is Helaena’s, lots of fyres lol. And I definitely think Meleys could have taken Vhagar down in a kamikaze situation. It would just be hard for Meleys alone to fully finish off Vhagar without getting mortally wounded herself.

Aegon II was burned many times in this episode, in many ways.

We have seen Sunfyre only once before, for a few seconds, but never up close up

This one hurt! Rhaenys was one of my favorite characters, gone too soon. I actually feel bad for Aegon too. He is a horrible king, but he was Never Raised to be a proper one!! He grew up spoiled and unprepared, and because he was the 1st born son too many people, including his parents and grandfather, never forced him to be better. Now he has paid the price (whatever that is).

I love how candid your reactions are.

18:22 I don't know how I didn't see this connection before but this is an allusion to a Cersei quote. "When you play the Game of Thrones you win or you die. There is no middle ground."

Watching these reactions today has traumatized me all over again. I bawled my ass off for hours Sunday night. It made me question how I can watch this. Not only losing the best character on the show (who died for nothing) but the agonizing screams of CGI dragons. These are undoubtedly the best special effects in human history. I simply can't stand to watch the dragons fight.

Princess Rhaenys made no attempt to flee. With a glad cry and a crack of her whip, she turned Meleys toward the foe. Meleys was fully capable to take the geriatric down. Alas Aemond chose to be be a sneak

No she wasn't capable of beating vhagar in a 1v1. Vhagar totally outmached Meleys, vhagar emerged from this duel virtually unscathed.

I hate that the dragons have to fight each other. It's so sad!!

After learning of her misunderstanding, it seems Alicent has a newfound doubt in Aegon, her words were harsh, damn. Daemon needs to leave Harrenhal immediately. This is no time for his head to be messed up, he needs to be focused and in the game. I knew it was coming, but Meleys and Rhaenys broke me. The way Meleys looked back at Rhaenys as she was about to die was so heartbreaking 😢 I wish the show could stray from the books once in awhile when it comes to certain character desths...I mean, give us a break sometimes.

This episode was like 80% burns of every sort and both sides particularly the greens just being done with each other. RIP Rhaenys and Maelys though! Went out in a literal blaze of glory. That dragon fight was crazy! Oh also Faemon jusr being messed with and being slowly turmed away from Rhaenyra.

I hope to god that before the show is over we get a shot of the Hightower army marching to war with the green citadel beacon in the background + Epic music!

Imagine if they would have done what daemon suggested from the beginning: him and rhaenys going after vhagar. given how good meleys was against vhagar, as she actually managed to do some damage, her and caraxes would have actually managed to kill her. everyone treats daemon like he’s this crazy sob, when, if you actually sit and think on it, what did rhaenys’ sacrifice actually achieve for her team? only a good member down. and aegon probably not dead. even if he was dead, aemond would suceed him, or maybe they’d place a regency, etc. there would be plenty of people to fill the gap on their side if need be. the blacks can’t afford to lose people. i did love rhaenys this episode though, but strategically, she should have left when she had the chance. it might have been better, long term.

I loved Rhaenys, but she did this to herself. Meleys is at least twice as fast and maneuverable as Vhagar, riding her anywhere near where Vhagar could ambush her instead of staying constantly out of reach was a rookie mistake worthy of Luke. Not to mention the fact that the battle was done, the army was annihilated, there was no reason at all for her to hang around loitering. Either she was stupid or the writers were.

30:03 For anyone that would try and spoil it for you, the book version is trash and GRRM has said the show is the canon of events and he's gone out of his way to see that problems in the book version are "fixed" in the show. So book thumpers aren't as in the know as they would like to claim to be. Book events are basically nothing more than a roadmap to events. Not the Holy Grail of exact things to come. So no one actually knows how this is going to play out until it happens in the show. So you have that :)
