House Battery BMS Fail?

Автокөліктер мен көлік құралдары

Bit of an odd one, got home and realised things are not as they should be, something seemed a little off!
INT - assume internal fault.

Just had a quote for a system based on a Fox Ess inverter and battery. There is precious little out there on reliability and user feedback. Then I found your videos! Thanks Ian for your efforts, really helping some of us evaluate this new brand. You are struggling to even get the monitoring of the app to tell you what you want to know. I really want to be able to tell the system what to do, so I can charge during dark winter months on night-time off-peak rates. If it won't even monitor what chance it can allow me to control...

You can get internet connected relays you could use that to do a reset, simple esp32 board can do it, you can log in anywhere and reset it, I've done this over the years on lots of hardware.

Subscribed! Looking at getting solar panels and offered Fox ESS battery (5.2kwh) and the Fox inverter. Would you recommend it after having it for some time? Thank you

Yes. But requires Home Assistant and Modbus the inverter really if you want to be able to monitor properly.

I’d hazard a guess at the BMS shorting it’s pants when the SOC got very low. It may have panicked if the calibration was off. Overnight cold temps could have thrown the reading (resistance values). Try putting a rule in on HA that performs a check to see if data is being captured/updated. If not, send you a notification or text.

SOC was at 49% so not low SOC (well not what I would call low anyhow!) Not sure how to do rules in HA, so will take a look, ta!

The batteries don't restart remotely until they reaches 50% and sometimes batteries don't get charging. What's that meant ? And what's solution about that problem? Please

Interesting how the top 3 out of the 4 battery charge level LEDs are on. That's not supposed to happen, so this indicates a software crash, unless it's some oddball error display. Maybe not being there to use power has left the code with nothing to do, hence no interrupts to reset anything.

The LEDs are in error mode. There's a chart in the manual which will indicate the error by viewing the illumited LEDs, what colour (red/green) & which ones are solid & which a flashing.

It's got to be frustrating, I would have assumed the system was fit and forget and not having to check it frequently.

At least you are being paid for any 'excess' solar going to the grid! Have a look at SwitchBot but I think that is Bluetooth - maybe compatible with HA if your HA device has Bluetooth? I assume you managed to get HA running over the internet and not just locally? Maybe you could add some HA automation to alert you if you have excess solar, battery less than 97% and not charging?

@@ched999uk if you have an EV you need a lot of PV generation to make flux work, the 15p outgoing octopus is not allowed with any Go tariffs making that a bad choice for EV owners also.

Its not what its supposed to be. Just like public EV charge points; in about ~5 years they might have it sorted. If you go big system its not as rosy as you might see in adverts/promotional material!
