Houdini is HIP - Part 3: Geometry and Objects
Фильм және анимация
Welcome to Houdini Is Hip! This is part 3 of the series. In this series, we are going to be looking at how to use Houdini to create incredible 3D graphics and effects. Not only will we be looking at full CG applications for it, but also at how we can use Houdini for adding VFX elements to live action plates.
In this part, we are looking at how to create objects and geometry as well as how to work between objects. We are also looking at how to work with attributes in Houdini.

I've been learning Houdini for the last few weeks now, and I've been struggling to find a channel or instructions that speak to me, until now. I wish I had known about this channel from the beginning, then I wouldn't have wasted so much time elsewhere pulling my hair out. I greatly appreciate the time and effort that has gone into this series, thank you.
@37:42 "I know it just looks like we're working with a bunch of turds..." One of the funniest offhand comments I've ever seen in a tutorial. I literally laughed out loud. One million thumbs up.
I must say the way these lessons are taught with clear and professional presentation has been a joy to learn from.
I am at 21:47 mark, i just wanna pause and thank you for remaking this series from the original one. Further explaining in details what are the common types of attributes, how to create them, how to use them, and always going back to the nodes that you've created and reiterate them. It is so clear and concise :)
you have an excellent way of presenting concepts in Houdini. this is , on the surface, a simple little tutorial but it has many useful tools/ideas to help with modeling without overwhelming those new to Houdini. well done.
this is the best tutorial on houdini that i've ever found, thank you
What a great detailed tutorial! Can't express enough thanks for putting this out!!
So beautifully presented and a perfectly paced tutorial style. Fantastic.
you are so good at explaining how to use this very difficult software. Thank you!!!
This is fantastic, Thank you! Perfect pace, and great production value. First tutorial I have found where I did not need to slow playback or pause to follow along.
Excellent please keep the videos coming !
Great series! Cannot wait for the next part.
You're a great teacher. Thanks for these videos~
Great tutorial. Everything is clear and well-organized
Great tutorial. While I was going through this tutorial, I was theorizing different ideas using these techniques, and there are so many possibilities!! Thanks again!
hurrraaay ! part 3 thankyou
Amazing Tutorial! Thanks mate! Great work!
Ayeee I'm from South Africa to NY - Joburg 💪🏿
it's brilliant, please continue
jirrr, a koeksister my bru, lekka one, love your videos
I really like the way of teaching and explaining things. I’ve been trying learning Houdini before, all of your tutorials are amazing. Finally I’m learning Houdini. Im cinema 4D user, and developing my skill more, it will be great if you can make tutorial in future about motion graphics and product centric and fun stuff that can be use in commercial like thread animations and particle sim. thanks 🙏🏻
Excellent please keep the videos coming ! nice explaination
You are amazing... love the way he explains,
im so glad how early on I found this channel!!
Incredible explanation
THANKYOUUU SO MUCH MAN
Hey @Nine Between , thank you so much team and everyone who has been a part of this series, I have doubt in the part where the lab spiral node is added. I'm using Houdini version 19.5.493, the system is only showing the spiral node and no lab spiral. I tried to type in keys but it still didn't show. Has it been removed? and how is it done in the version, 19.5.493?
Bro, It was hard to learn Houdini until i found you.
As much as it is cool to substitute other shapes to put coconuts on the shape, it is not unusual for other DCCs to do the same. C4D, for instance allows you to create a null and use that as the cloner end object. Whatever you put as a child of the null then gets the clones applied to it.
Great hair dude🔥
really cool video, still waiting for the hole in the donut though..
god you are so good
Yo 9! I have been watching your tutorials for 2 years now, started with the thanos portal and went through all of them.. but i can't seem to do anything creative in houdini and I find its render operations so stressing, maybe its the render settings that just give me long render times or materials i just can't configure.. I still dont get it but iam optimistic.. I would love to learn it especially after watching the Rubix cube
After adding attribute noise with P attribute it goes the hell away from turd no matter what and sticks to it only if parameter is set to zero, which means - no noise at all
Nothing better than Eren Yeager teaching Houdini❤❤
❤
I suppose two questions. What's the difference between "spiral" and "labs spiral" besides the latter is far more simplified. Second, can you utilise lab tools in actual projects and if so is it a case where they're technically not ready so use at your own discretion? Also, never had a coconut koeksister before, it a Durban thing?
Hey i got to the spiral tutorial but theere is no labs spiral there is a spiral but the parameters are different
man told me I was going make a donut but instead made poop. JK

Hi! If you can't find the Labs Spiral tool, it's likely that you haven't installed Houdini Labs. It's an extended toolset for Houdini. See the documentation on SideFX for installing labs here: www.sidefx.com/faq/question/how-do-i-install-sidefx-labs/ I hope this helps!😁

Thanks a lot 😁
Can we have the hip file???
koeksister...yum
is houdini also your primary modelling software? i heard that that's not houdini's strong suit.

Hey! We use it for modeling but not for sculpting (zbrush for sculpting). They've improved their modeling toolset a lot recently. I agree that it still may not be the best, but it's definitely usable and capable. We've just found that removing Blender/Maya as an extra step in our pipeline makes it easier to work with models. With everything in Houdini, there's no exporting/importing that we have to do. I'd recommend doing what works for you, but Houdini is definitely a worthwhile modeling option.

@@NineBetween Useful to know. Do you do character animations as well? What do you guys use for that?
Houdini 20 has no bottom or top radius.
Bro said Control Z to Undo, Even my mom knows that
first time I'm modelling not a donut but some awkward turd
it look like shit, isn't it?
@18:20 we can also use attribute delete to delete the color attribute right? instead of creating a new color node? in case if I dont want any color
