"HOTEL HELL" - Dumbbell CrossFit WOD (

Спорт

This "Hotel Hell" WOD lives up to it's name. Credit to Jason Khalipa and Chris Spealler for popularizing it. See their original video: wodwell.com/wod/hotel-hell/?r...
- SUBSCRIBE: wodwell.co/yt_sub
While on the road we had access to a hotel gym with a dumbbell rack, some treadmills, and some strength machines. We looked up "Dumbbell WODs on WODwell (wodwell.com/wods/equipment/du...) - one of the most popular ones from 2013 is called "HOTEL HELL."
"HOTEL HELL"
For Time
100 Dumbbell Hang Clean Thrusters (Clusters) (2x35/25 lb)
5 Burpees to start, and at the top of each minute
Start with 5 burpees. Then complete as many hang squat clean thrusters (aka: “hang clusters”) as possible until the minute is up. Repeat until 100 total are completed. If athlete does not finish score is number of rounds and reps completed.
We picked a target time of 14 minutes and calculated that we'd have to do 7 clusters per round, plus two 8-rep rounds to get sub-14. It ended up taking us 40-45 seconds per round, leaving 15-20 seconds of rest each round. Around half way through (50 clusters) it started getting pretty spicy! Following the same rep scheme and staying in-sync the whole time, we finished in 13:44 (Lisa) and 13:46 (Jeremy).
Lisa and Jeremy are 36 and 42-year-old "masters" athletes (115 lb and 205 lb) who have been CrossFitting since 2011 and 2013, and work out mostly in their home garage these days. Together they are co-creators of WODwell and wodwell.com

    one of the best crossfit workout you can do at home. it hits almost all body parts. very good cardio. if you don't have time to workout then you can do this crossfit workout. this is my FAVORITE EXERCISE. it can really be HELL for beginners and first timers. the first time i did this workout my whole body became sore for 3 days but it was worth it. i still do this workout 1-2x a wk, i just added abs workout during active rest. i highly recommend this WOD for everybody. for beginners try to lower the reps and shorten the time to 5-7 min. just do mini hotel hell until you are able to follow along till the end of the session.

    You don't need to start with Burpees. In the original video he did not start with burpees. It was explained as "You need to do 100 Clean Hang thrusters and then every minute that PASSES, do 5 burpees" the key word is, a minute passed since starting. You can also clearly see Jason starting with the Hangs, but then Chris writes start with Burpees. So it's kinda bad, because 12 years ago it was not written up on fancy websites, we just had that video to go by. People are doing two different versions of this Wod.

    Great WOD, will def try when traveling! Why the wide stance doing the burpees and why do you lie flat on the floor doing them?

  • @wodwell

    @wodwell

    4 жыл бұрын

    Wide stance is not a textbook pretty burpee. Feet should come back together after the jump. After watching the video I’d pay more attention to this next time. As for why lie flat on the floor - because that’s the “bottom” of a burpee in CrossFit (the top is standing tall with hands touching overhead).

    this is definitely some good money you got. the only comment i have is the burpees. i am a stickler on burpees as far as form. i get it you are going for time, but i rather take longer with proper form on both movements, then be faster in time with haphazard form. in the end with good form, you will be stronger in the end. i am not saying what you're doing isn't hard. you are getting that money. just be more cognisant of your form with the burpees meaning clean push ups instead of flopping on the floor or seal backing. other than that, get that money. 🤙

    Serious question. So with crossfit, do you just do the "WOD" and that's it? Or do you lift as well? And I know that there are different workouts, so there would be different times, but how long does a typical crossfit workout last? And qhat does it all entail?

  • @wodwell

    A lot of people do CrossFit with a "strength bias," which means they lift frequently as well (typically before the WOD). You're right that different workouts take different amounts of time, and it varies a lot. Most take between 10-20 minutes, but some are shorter and some are much longer (60+). You can see the most popular CrossFit workouts and the variety they entail at wodwell.com/wods/

    İs it smart to train further on fitness after your crossfit workouts ? like 30 minutes or something. or is crossfit workout just enough for the whole day ?

  • @wodwell

    @wodwell

    Depends how serious you are about fitness. Lots of competitive athletes do multiple workouts per day. But one 1-hour warm-up/workout/cool-down session per day (4-5 days/week) is enough for typical non-competitive athletes.

    Is her form right on the down position of the cleans? Seems like she might be shortening the range of motion to keep the bells higher.

  • @wodwell

    @wodwell

    4 жыл бұрын

    In most cases Lisa is doing a high hang clean (va a regular hang clean), which is an acceptable version of the hang clean with a faster cycle time. But in some cases she isn’t straightening her arms and not completing the movement, which is technically a no-rep.

    This Burpee starts with the athlete standing up, then requires thighs and chest to touch the ground, then requires the athlete to stand up again with hands overhead. What kind of burpee do you do?

    Let’s say you’re going to a hotel without any barbells. Could you do like 500 air squats instead of thrusters?

  • @wodwell

    @wodwell

    5 жыл бұрын

    If you don’t have any weights at all, *jumping air squats* might give you a good effect (minus the upper body component). 200 total jumping air squats in this format would probably be a really good lower body workout.

    I know this is brutal as hell. But imo I feel you both were lifting to much for this challenge, when your not even halfway through and the form gets sloppy, you are using to much. But I give props for this challenge. Keep it clean and safe, injures = no workout at all.
